Not accurately represented
The title states the property is "New". While I assumed this meant newly remodeled, this was not the case. The property is in desperate need of a remodel.
While we like rustic accommodations, again the issue was that the property was not accurately represented. There is no panoramic ocean view, there is a glimpse of the ocean from the units that face that way. The listing claims you can watch a sunset from the property, The listing faces North, with the west side covered by jungle. Most of the view is a run down property next door.
It should have been mentioned that there is a very long walk to the end of the drive to access a cab. While walking, be careful of the land mines left by the many dogs that live on the property.
Walking to West End is very doable, but there is often no safe place to walk as in many places there is nowhere to walk but IN the road. This could have (and should have) been mentioned. We were told by the locals to not walk this stretch of road after dark as there had been a rash of robberies (something else we should have been told).
The toilet seat was broken,I reported this and was told it was a known issue. The shower was dirty (the grout was disgusting) and there were many very large cobwebs in the corners going up to the ceiling (the rest of the unit appeared clean), and one shabby towel per person?
LOTS of dogs under the house barking most of the night. I love dogs, I do not love listening to them bark literally all night. We are under the impression these dogs belonged to long term tenants in the other units.
We couldn't figure out how we were hearing the neighbors sneeze as if they were in our room. The wall does not meet the ceiling....mystery solved. You will not have a private conversation in this rental.
The listing mentions a skylight.....it did not exist, could they have been speaking of the small window located high on the wall? We are unsure.
There was no full size blanket. Thank goodness we did not need it during our short stay. There was a small throw-size blanket in a bag.
The listing mentioned a Tuscan theme....confused on that as well. mostly a menagerie, primarily of an Asian nature. Very strange in the jungle of Roatan.
As it was only three nights and we had such wonderful accommodations our first seven days in Roatan (Turtle Beach) we decided to suck it up as most of the issue was misrepresentation which could not be "fixed" during our stay.
Overall, it felt like a local flophouse.
'm sorry to hear your words. I would like to give you an answer.
I think that you can't compare our small guesthouse with an hotel three stars on the beach. I can also imagine the differences because I know your previous place.
We used to have a good reviews and I'm sure there are many different points of view.
Look like you was getting bad experience after you move to my property.
Our house is just less than 10 minutes walking from west end village and most of the people like this short walk away from noise, but for what you described, look like for you, was a long walk. The property is located out of West End, into a very quiet green and safe area, one of the things that most of the guests like.
We love dogs and there are many around the propriety and in all the island, maybe you heard some dog barking but there are many residents people living in this neighborhood and nobody complained.
We usually make some pictures of the studio before guests arrive, and we found a small difference between our pictures and how the room look after your departure, but let's proceed..
About house clean, we use to clean the house after guests departure and also before new guests arrive and the reviews were always good.
We always provide three towels each person, one big, one medium and one small, so I don't understand why you wrote "just one shabby towel ", after you loose one and you didn't give me even 5$. We provide also two blankets, one for single bed and the other one for a double bed. So again I don't understand why you wrote "one blanket no full size", maybe you took the single one..?
About the toilet seat was broken and yes we're waiting the right size to change it. Sorry for this inconvenience.
The wall of the house are thin but for sure meet the ceiling.
Overall I'm sorry for your uncomfortable feeling during the time that you spent in my property.

Wonderful welcome with impecable assistance and direction from Lladia!
Wonderful welcome with fantastic help and direction from Lladia who greeted us upon arrival. She's the best person we could have had the pleasure of meeting as well as being super informative about Roatan. Great porch with a hammock, tables & 4 chairs with a spectacular peaceful view. Place was clean and neat and all appliances worked well and loved that it was built with fine woods. Actually we preferred being a short walking distance away from the Went End strip to retire to our peaceful and quiet bit of paradise. Thanks so much Lladia! You really made our stay great! Ciao from Mayo & Ry!
we really appreciated the time spent with us.
great and kind people.
thanks for choosing .
villa el sueno
A fantastic spot among the trees just outside of West End.
Beautiful and quaint apartment with jungle views, lots of little lizards and some birds. Ila was very helpful and accomodating, the apartment was nice, but has very thin walls so you do hear the neighbors (there are 4 units including the host's). There is a kitchenette with 4 burner stove and microwave and some pots and pans, the bed was comfortable, and the shower spacious. The walk to and from West End was fine for us, but we hike a lot, so it may not be ideal for everyone. Being just outside of town, it was much quieter than the night life of West End which we were glad to be able to get away from to sleep. You can easily walk down the driveway to the Carreteria Principal (the main road of the island) and catch a cab going either way. West Bay/West End is a cheap fare (especially when paying in lempiras, you get a more 'local' rate) but you can get to Coxen Hole or farther at almost any time (expect fewer cabs, and to pay more after dark; negotiate the fare *before* you get in). There aren't many grocery type stores nearby, just convenience stores and restaurants, so stock up at Eldon's in Coxen Hole before you come to West End. All in all a great little spot without too many rooms in a nice quiet corner of the Roatan jungle. :)
Property was great!
Property just a little far from the westend. Need to be home early at night since the taxis are not allowed up the road and it's dark. Would recommend this property to people on a budget
Perfect for us
Villa El Sueno was perfect for us! The private car to pick us up at the airport was perfect. Ila is a wonderful guide, very accommodating and friendly. The view from our suite is beautiful! The place is simple with 2 small beds and a cozy porch with a chair and hammock. Microwave, but no stovetop in the kitchen. It seems the cost of buying food to cook versus eating out is very comparable so it worked out very well. If you want a room you can sit in all day with a TV or air conditioning it is not for you. The fans and breeze are perfect, but expect it to get warm during the day. The place is about a 10 minute walk with a couple steep spots so I wouldn't recommend it for anyone who isn't very mobile unless you are OK with paying a buck or 2 for a bus or cab to get to the beach area of West End. Gas station is really convenient, just right down the road. The walls are a bit thin so its easy to hear the neighbor right next to you. A second hammoch on the porch would have been nice - that is the only minor detail we would have changed. Love it and would definitely stay again!!!
Great location and great hosts in a nice clean Roatan style apartment
I used to live in West End back in it's more rustic days, before the road was paved and before cell phone towers hit the island (2001). When I go back for vacation I look for a place that is close to West End (walking distance preferably) and has the rustic wooden build charm that characterizes the Roatan style (wood siding, exposed rafters, wood window shutters). This place carries the nice Roatan charm, but in a cleaner and more detailed way than you may otherwise find. We had an ocean view from our nice sized terrace, overlooking Gibson Bight. Two wooden Adirondack chairs and a Guatemalan Hammock. The shower was great, the ceiling fans helped during the warmer days, and the surrounding garden is very pretty. There is a small kitchenette that could be improved by having stovetop burners and a toaster oven (we were provided with a single plug in burner upon request since we travel with our Italian Moka coffee pot--- thanks for that!). Outside there is a small BBQ pit which we were allowed to use, and we did one night. If you stay here you will find that the hosts are very warm and accomodating, a real pleasure to be around and help with suggestions to make your stay easier. They were even nice enough to let us bring our 25lb dog with us, as he travels with us everywhere. This made our trip even more enjoyable. We had an outstanding vacation and were nearly depressed at the thought of leaving. When we come back to Roatan we will happily return to Villa el Sueño.
Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review Brandon, it was a pleasure having yourself and Simona stay with us at Villa el Sueno! You were wonderful guests and we are so happy that you chose to stay here and that you enjoyed your time here so much. We are very appreciative of your positive feedback as we strive to improve over time. We very much look forward to seeing you when you return to Roatan, whether it be as guests or just socially! Good luck with everything in the mean time and see you both soon hopefully! A&C
