Upon entering the service entrance on the lowest level of this three story Bavarian style home, the long counter and full-sized washer/dryer, absorbs the days wear. Located a mere stone’s throw from the downtown Wrightwood village, each of the four bedrooms has a California King bed, even the kids room (with toys and games, and videos/TV). Easily sleeps 10, which doesn't include downstairs family room (with wet bar, big screen, and pool table) by utilizing the two double bed futon sofa sleepers. About Barbara & Raoul Piette
Taking the road-less-traveled (while returning from a high desert business meeting) meant encountering a sign stating that Wrightwood was seven miles – that-away. Childhood memories made turning my back on civilization a no-brainer. One slowly rising bend led to another, as desert chaparral became turned to scrub oaks, before giving way to age old towering pines and majestic oaks. The small town charm of kids walking to school along streets with no lights was irresistible. Nestled amongst the surrounding National Forest, yet minutes to the ski resort, were homes of various distinctive character, built over the last 100 years. Being in a National Forest means houses get rebuilt, not malls constructed. What began as a great place to grow apples, is now the gateway to four seasons of sublime activities. And Wrightwood is so accessible, just an hour to the Big A. So funds planned for investment into senior condos, instead became a labor of love - in owning and sharing the mountains as a getaway to renew the core of you. So what was once a newlywed investment, three kids later, has become a lifetime of family memories - spread across multiple homes. There is so much to see and do that’s different at elevation. People unplug, literally, and thereby recharge themselves. But we can’t be here every week. So we take pride in maintaining and upgrading each home, to make better memories for our guests.

It was an expensive mistake to rent this place
I could not have been more disappointed in this property. I rented it for my family, including my grown children and their children. When one of my daughters saw it she decide she'd rather drive 100 miles at midnight rather than stay in this dilapidated, dangerous building. I couldn't blame her. I took pictures of some of the issues, but I don't see where VRBO provides a way to upload them. If I find it I will.
Here's my list of issues:
1) Deficient, dangerous wiring. One outlet was pulled out of the wall - the electrical box exposed. No GFCI's in the bathrooms.
2) Lighting fixtures hanging from wires
3) Dangerous stairs inside and outside the building, especially for small children. We had 6, 4, and 2 year children in our group. The banister for the stairs had wide gaps, as did the stairs. I would not recommend anyone with young children staying in this place.
4) large burns in the drapes; broken furniture.
5) A "service vehicle" parked in one of the three parking spaces that was a total junker and was filled with junk.
6) Dust and dirt in the bedrooms.
7) fluorescent lighting fixture that appeared to be wired with extension cords - and no covers.
8) The next door neighbor - like 30 feet away - had a backhoe - a backhoe! in his yard. It looked like we were next to the city dump.
9) Dirty windows - obviously hadn't been cleaned in months or longer.
10) The stairs to the main entrance of the cabin were uneven and did not have handrails.
11) Carpet not properly installed; exposed carpet tacks.
12) Worn out dumpy appliances in the kitchen
We were in Wrightwood for a wedding, and got to see other's accommodations. They were WAY better than this property.
If you have young children you should definitely avoid this place.
Most of laments are part of summer remodel. House in no way in a state of disrepair, instead it's in constant upgrade. To address reviewers issues:
1)Dangerous wiring: Home up to code. House inspected for such. Outlet not ‘pulled out’, it's mounted to cinderblock wall to code.
GFCI’s outlets in the bathroom not part of code when bought in 2001. Thanks to suggestion, these will be replcd.
2&7)Lighting fixtures hanging from wires: One hanging light in entire house-light over the pool table. Has just been re-felted & new bumper rails installed. In time, light box to be removed and replaced. Extension cord from the light to reach wall outlet.
3)Dangerous stairs: Stairs are to code when built, & when resold & bought by us. There is a continuous handrail from top to bottom on both floors.
4)Burns in drapes: Across a 16 ft of floor to ceiling living room window is a two inch burn, seen if looked for when the drapes are drawn. New drapes not yet ordered.
Broken furniture: We searched home & found a dresser missing a pull, & an ornamental wood piece on the back of the sofa had been broken, which did not affect use of sofa. Knob replaced. The home, is well beyond Ikea level furnishings, as seen in pictures.
5)The driveway itself can fit up to 4-vehicles. Property service truck not on the driveway, but parked aside it.
6)Dust/Dirt in bedrooms: House cleaned after each visit. Summer in mntns does present dust and pollen & perhaps recent construction or fires.
8)Next door House yard junky: Neighbor is local woodcraft artisan. Home faces a main cross st & one blk from downtown. Our cabin has such a commanding view, his yard can be seen, but so is downtown and mountains.
9)Dirty windows: Windows cleaned every few months. Svc req & finished, inside & out.
10)Front (4) steps-leading from the driveway to front door, although stable, were made uneven by the installation of new septic tank. A closer svc entry, has electronic lockbox. Guests told to use this entry. Stairwell slated to be completed by winter; retaining wall & landscape just redone.
11)Carpet not properly installed: Berber carpet on some seams has been pulled off by repeated vacuuming
12)Range/oven & separate hood are brand new, black & stainless as we convert from white. This guest was the first to use it. Old wall paper (now exposed) had not been removed. Project now finished. Dishwasher & refrigerator are older but clean.
Suggestions appreciated & acted on for corrections.
We enjoyed our stay!
This cabin was really great for our large extended family to stay in. With 3 levels and 2 balconies, there was a lot of room to relax and enjoy family time. The kid's toys in the upstairs closet were a real surprise to find and sure made the little ones in our group happy. We also loved that the cabin was within walking distance to downtown Wrightwood.
Thank you for the nice review. It was nice to have you stay again. Hopefully, you can make it next winter season as well!
It was a nice quiet get away from everyday life. I would come back
The house was more rustic than we thought from the photos and Needs some maintenance, bathroom care, and a rail for the staircase. The stairs are open to the living room and a child can easily fall. I suggested a rail to he owner so hopefully they will fix it soon.
Great location! Great for families!
We had a wonderful stay. Barbara was very organized and quick to reply to any questions we had.
Great layout for families. We also loved the fact that the town was right around the corner.
We had a wonderful time
The cabin was very cozy and it had plenty of space for everyone. I would recommend some minor upgrades and fixes to the pull out garbage compactor in the kitchen, as well as cleaning the drains in the showers. The faucets in the bathrooms could also use some fixing so that the water doesn't come out in wide sprays. The pool table was terrific and provided most of the entertainment that our kids needed. The back of the living room couch was broken, so we were unable to use that section when relaxing by the fireplace.
