Set on a beautiful seven acres of wooded hillside, Homestead Hideaway offers you a unique opportunity to rest and relax within a peaceful setting. Located just 15 Miles from Galena, Illinois, our cabins in the woods can be your home away from home while you enjoy Galena, Chestnut Mountain, hiking, wineries, and all the other amenities Jo Daviess County has to offer.

When you stay at Homestead Hideaway, you can simply relax in our cozy rustic cabins, or get out and enjoy everything the area has to offer. At Homestead Hideaway you can expect a tranquil feel and a stress free retreat. The cabins are located in a beautiful rural area where it is perfect to have a cup of coffee or tea in the mornings and enjoy the wildlife. Let our cabins be a rare chance to unplug from the world and help ensure you have a relaxed and secluded stay. We are not able to provide Internet or cable TV due to the location of the cabins. However, do not let that steer you away from the beautiful setting. There are numerous locations in Galena as well as E-Town Coffee in Elizabeth, IL with Internet access.

We have two historic cottages located on the property and three separate rentals. The cabins are located on opposite ends of the property. You can enjoy the seven acres of wooded area by hiking or taking your dog for a walk. Whether you are planning a romantic trip to Galena, a golfing trip, a couple’s getaway, a wine lovers weekend, or skiing at Chestnut Mountain during the winter months, Homestead Hideaway will accommodate to your needs.

We have been renting the cabins for about 2 years now. We have decided to go beyond the brochure advertising and word of mouth and work with VRBO for our rentals. Do not hesitate to ask any questions.

This rental is for the Brimeyer cabin. It has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. One bedroom is located on the top level with a King bed. The second bedroom is on the bottom level with a queen bed. The main level has a kitchen and a living/dining area. There is also a sofa sleeper in the living/dining area.

The other cabin on the property also has two rentals on this website. The top two levels of the other cabin is the Seven Sisters Suite vrbo # 623038. The lower level/unit of the cabin is our Gleneagle Suite which is also listed on VRBO #624157

We now have a landline at the cabin. It is for local and emergency(911) calling only. If you wish to call long distance you will need to bring a calling card. However, long distance inbound calling is free.

Going back!

  • 4 of 5

We stayed at the cabin in the first half of July 2017. I guess the best testimony I can offer is that upon returning home we made another reservation for the cabin for October and we cannot wait to get back. This is a place to get away from the busyness of life and have a digital detox. No Wi-Fi but you may have an occasional cell signal. You will not have immediate neighbors nor will you see another house from the cabin. And it was such a plus to be able to take our dog with us, who thoroughly enjoyed scouting rabbits. There is plenty of lawn area around the cabin that makes it easy to walk your dog and keep them out of any tick areas. As for wildlife we saw deer, rabbits, birds, and chipmunks. We also enjoyed grilling steaks and hamburgers out back. Be sure to take plenty of food because you are not going to make a quick run to Wal-Mart from here. There is a portable fire pit but we did not use it. The best room in the cabin is the main floor porch. If the weather is going to be hot/humid you may want to take a box fan to use on the porch. It was clean and comfortable. If you want some entertainment then take DVDs with you as the cabin really doesnt have any worth watching. There is no remote for the DVD player which makes it a bit of a challenge to select items from the DVD menu, but you can work around it. Elizabeth was a pleasant surprise. It is a really small town about 20 minutes away. But the reconstructed fort was interesting as was Common Cents resale shop. Welcome Inn food was very good. But Three Sisters Ice Cream is the go to place. Cute and a nice selection of ice creams as well as gourmet cupcakes. Galena was about 25 minutes and we really enjoyed spending a day there. The drives offer beautiful vistas. The waterfall at Apple River Canyon (golf course) was really nice as were the falls at Thunder Bay. For activities you can go to Chestnut Mountain, via Galena, to zip line, alpine slide, Segway, etc. All these locations are 20-30 minutes from the cabin. On our last night we were blessed by nature's fireworks with a display from a massive amount of fireflies.

Our stay was the perfect quiet and secluded solution to the Fourth of July hoopla and fireworks.

  • 5 of 5

The cabin and surrounding property is absolutely perfect for those who choose to enjoy tranquility in a beautiful natural landscape. Our family and dogs enjoyed the most peaceful Fourth of July holiday we have ever experienced. The Brinmeyer cabin was just outstanding top to bottom in both form and function. Three floors of rustic appeal with some really cool achitectural aspects made staying here really easy & enjoyable. Equally the property and trails on which the cabin is located were a dream come true for us and our dogs. We were all able to enjoy being outdoors together without incident on very well maintained trails. It was a great stay we truly enjoyed every minute of it and look forward to returning soon.

Beautiful property but needs some tweaking

  • 3 of 5

The location and natural setting was beautiful and the house overall was structurally sound and nice. There are some drawbacks. The water is safe but tastes bad. Count on brining in your own drinking water. Claw footed tubs cannot be used for soaking and the mineral and iron in the water discolors them to some degree. A water softener could solve both problems. Kitchen utensils were spartan and the coffee maker did not work because of a clogged line (again hard water problems. Fortunately we had brought a poor-over coffee maker. The nice-looking stone wall in the lower bedroom had many spider webs in it which is disconcerting next to where your pillows lie. Vacuuming the wall when cleaning or an exterminator could solve it pretty easily. Mattress pad on the upper bed is nasty and should be replaced. We had a great time at the cabin and loved watching the stars at night and having a firewood available for bonfires. Lovely setting, and a few minor tweaks would make this property a five.

Perfect getaway cabin

  • 4 of 5

My family and I really enjoyed staying at this cabin. It has the warm feeling we were looking for. It was close enough to Chesnat Mountains were we went skiing every day and at the same time, far enough from all the noice we were looking to get away from.

Beautiful property in a beautiful location

  • 4 of 5

Had a wonderful stay. The cabin was beautiful and well equipped with everything we needed, although it could do with being a bit cleaner. The log burner and firepit were fantastic additions which we made use of. So lovely to stay somewhere totally quiet with the woods right outside the door. Thank you!
