OUR LOCATION:
You cannot beat our location! There is so much to do in the Meadow Village, especially with the Big Sky Town Center less than a mile away. We enjoy walking the quiet 3-mile paved loop around the Meadow Village, which can be accessed by a rock staircase in the back of the house. Breathe in the fresh mountain air and look for wildlife as elk, moose, and deer are abundant throughout the year. We are conveniently located in-between the Mountain and the Canyon on a gorgeous bluff overlooking the entire Meadow Village and surrounding mountain ranges.
• Less than a mile away is the Big Sky Town Center where there is plenty of shopping, restaurants, groceries, ski and boot rental, and a movie theatre. If you are in need of skis, boots, or apparel – hop on over to East Slope Anglers or Grizzly Outfitters. If you are hungry – try a sandwich at the Blue Moon Bakery or a pizza from Milky’s. If you are tempted by the dozens of locally micro-brewed beers in the area – head on over to the Lone Peak Brewery. There is a little something for everyone at the Big Sky Town Center and it is within walking distance from the house. There are about a dozen dining options available in the Meadow Village with additional restaurants located on the Mountain and in the Canyon. • Less than a mile away is Lone Mountain Ranch which boasts over 2,200 vertical feet of trails for cross country skiing, snowshoeing, and a fully stocked Nordic Ski Center. Or enjoy a sleigh ride and dinner as you explore Lone Mountain Ranch’s gorgeous winter wonderland by moonlight. • Less than a mile away is the Big Sky Golf Course which is an Arnold Palmer signature 18-hole golf course and is complete with cross country ski trails in the winter. • Less than 2 miles away are the public outdoor tennis courts. Private and group lessons can be arranged at the Pro Shop. Near the tennis courts is a large public playground with a water feature for the kids! If you are vacationing here in the summer with children, you should also check out “Camp Big Sky” which provides fun, safe, and enriching activities for all ages. • Less than 3 miles to the nearest hike on “Ousel Falls Trail” which is easy enough for children and grandparents to enjoy a casual 1.5-mile walk through the woods on a groomed trail that leads you to a spectacular waterfall with picnic tables and benches along the way. The Big Sky area offers many incredible hiking opportunities of varying difficulties. • Less than 5 miles to the banks of the Gallatin River where you can experience the peace and tranquility of fly-fishing in an area so beautiful, parts of Robert Redford’s “A River Runs Through It” were filmed there. The Gallatin River runs alongside Highway 191 and there are turnoffs every couple of miles for fishing and other recreational uses. In addition, guided float trips are available on the Madison or Yellowstone Rivers which are only two-hour drives away. The Gallatin, Madison, and Yellowstone Rivers are all blue-ribbon trout streams that attract fly fisherman worldwide and are easily accessible from Big Sky. The closest whitewater rafting company is Geyser Whitewater Expeditions which is less than 5 miles away as well. • Less than 7 miles to the Big Sky Ski Resort where you will find the BIGGEST skiing in North America, with over 5,800 acres of skiable terrain reaching 11,166 vertical feet. Big Sky has over 300 named runs covering over 110 miles on three separate mountains. And Big Sky is consistently recognized for having little to no wait times at the lifts. There are plenty of options for all experience levels, including a bunny hill and Ski School for the kids. And the 400+ inches of annual snowfall make for some pretty unbeatable skiing, boarding, or other winter sports you enjoy. There is also a shuttle bus that picks up every hour at the Town Center less than a mile from our house. Check out http://www.skylinebus.com/for schedules and routes. • Less than 7 miles to the Zipline operated at the base of the Big Sky Ski Resort which is considered one of America’s best zipline courses according to USA Today! • Less than 9 miles to Jake’s Horses in the Canyon where you can find guided trail rides, pack trips, fishing trips, and big game hunting. • The Bozeman / Belgrade Airport (BZN) is 45 miles away from the Big Sky Meadow Village and serves as the closest airport to Big Sky. We recommend that you rent a car but you can also make reservations with the Karst Stage by calling (406) 556-3540 or (800) 287-4759. 4-wheel drive is highly recommended in the winter months. The scenic one-hour drive from Bozeman to Big Sky begins in the canyon as you drive alongside the Gallatin River on Highway 191 through the Gallatin National Forest. You might be fortunate enough to spot some local wildlife or identify a fishing hole you want to try along the way. During your stay in Big Sky, you may enjoy venturing back to Bozeman as it offers more than just an airport. You will find ‘bigger’ city amenities in Bozeman like malls, chain grocery stores, Costco, and a quaint old western Main Street with plenty of restaurants, breweries, boutiques, and antique shopping. • We are located approximately 55 miles from West Yellowstone where you can enter Yellowstone Park and enjoy its magical and mysterious landscape via car in the summer or a guided snowmobile or coach tour in the winter. Or spend the afternoon in West Yellowstone and watch an IMAX movie about the Park or view wildlife at the Grizzly Bear Discovery Center.

The house was very clean and had everything we needed. The views were amazing and the house was very comfortable for our family. My family really enjoyed staying here.
Everything was perfect. Home is beautiful and so well stocked. So comfortable for our two families with teens for our Big Sky ski trip. So close to everything and a short drive to the mountain. Hope to come back again.
We had an incredible stay at the Looking Glass Hideout! The home offered beautiful views of Big Sky Mountain, especially from the hot tub on the deck. It was the perfect home base for our friend group’s annual ski trip — plenty of space to relax, 10 minute access to the slopes, and a comfortable setting that made it easy to unwind after long days on the mountain. Our host Jana was amazing — extremely responsive, kind, and helpful with anything we needed throughout the trip.We couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay and would absolutely return for our next ski trip to Big Sky.
We enjoyed our stay! Easy location to get in and out of. Short walk to shopping and dining. Very memorable and comfortable for our two families to enjoy Spring Break. Beautiful place for relaxing and gorgeous views!
Great house in Big Sky. The house was clean and well stocked. The owner was very responsive and communicated quickly. We were able to watch the wildlife across the mountain each morning. Highly recommend!
Great property located in the heart of Big Sky. Beautiful home, well furnished and great kitchen. Our party of 7 was very comfortable spreading out throughout the house. Easy access to Lone Mountain, skiing and Meadow/town Village.
This is a fantastic house with a breathtaking view. We had six adults and two toddlers for Thanksgiving. The kitchen was fully equipped and made it possible for six of us to cook. We were able to both fish and ski with easy access and both were world class.

We are so glad you enjoyed our home and your vacation! Happy to hear season opening skiing was already fantastic! We invite you to stay with us again when you return to Big Sky.
This place is wonderful and in a great location. We had our whole family ages ranging from 4 months to 70 years old, 7 people total. I reached out to the Jana (property manager) before we came about high chairs and pack and play. She made them available for us to use. Can’t say enough good things about the property or the family management. Would recommend for any big family or large group. Hopefully we are back soon.
Plenty of space for a group of 8; maintenance could be better
Functional space with plenty of room for 8-10. Generously outfitted kitchen and laundry room, nice views of Lone peak with hot tub. Could be cleaner and more modernly appointed; several old taxidermy birds. Walkways were not clear of ice and garage was not allowed to park cars which wasn’t convenient with all the ice in driveway and sidewalks.

Beautiful Mountain Retreat
We vacationed here with two families (four adults and four kids) and had a wonderful time. The house was even more beautiful that the photos. The owner was very communicative prior to our arrival and provided us with information about bike rentals, summer camps for the kids, etc. The view was incredible. The foosball table provided hours of entertainment for the kids and the well-stocked gourmet kitchen was a pleasure to cook in. We drove down to Yellowstone National Park twice and it was an easy, scenic drive. We walked in the neighborhood, played golf and the kids found a nearby stream to play in. There was so much to do and you can't beat the location! This house was simply amazing.

It sounds like you all enjoyed many of the same activities that we have during our summers spent in Big Sky. It's amazing how a round of golf or a walk around the Meadow can bring so much peace and relaxation. The views from the house are truly a gift. We hope you'll return to Big Sky soon!
This property is a well maintained and very warm and comfortable house with high end finishes. The main living/ kitchen area is open and bright with excellent views of the big sky around the mountains. It is located in a quite neighborhood easy access to the main road.
It is located close to grocery shopping and a number of nice restaurants and a reasonable distance to the ski area.
One note to new visitors to the Big Sky area, it has become more popular in the past few years and if you plan to go out for a dinner at a nice restaurant, you probably need to plan several days in advance and make reservations. BTW, one of my favorite places is The Cabin located in the base area for the ski resort; a nice quite place for apres ski and and good food for dinner.

Bob, Thanks so much for the great review! We are glad you enjoyed the house, magnificent views, and location. It really sets us apart from the many other beautiful houses in the area! I agree with you that restaurant reservations are smart - especially during prime ski season. We love the Cabin too!! Hope you’ll come back and enjoy Big Sky with us again. - Jana

Don't Rent this House!!!
Don't rent this house unless you want to be spied upon. The owners of this house were difficult from the beginning. After the reservation contract was signed with VRBO, the owners came up with another 8 page contract they wanted signed. If it hadn't been the only large house left for Easter, I would have walked right then. The house itself was very nice, but the hot tub was locked and we couldn't use it even though it was supposed to be included as part of the rental. The owners sent people over to sit just outside the house and spy on us, which was very disconcerting. Finally, they withheld part of our security deposit, not because there was any damage, but because we were an hour late checking out so we could go to church on Easter Sunday.
I have rented many houses from VRBO in the past and have always had a great experience. There are lots of other large houses in Big Sky to rent. I would strongly encourage you to rent any of the others, not this one.

We make every effort to accommodate our guests. I think that is demonstrated by our outstanding history of 5 star reviews. Our home offers one of the most exceptional experiences in Big Sky and we take our guests feedback seriously.
VRBO presents our generic rental contract on the website when you book. We update this SAME rental contract with the guest’s names, dates of stay, and rental amount and ask that our guests read, sign, and return it at their convenience. We have not had another renter even question this procedure and we have signed these same contracts when we have rented homes on VRBO. This is not an odd or exceptional request. However, we found it very odd that this guest refused to sign the contract after ignoring our emails for weeks. Against our better judgement, we allowed this guest to rent our home. We never heard from this guest during their stay. Had they contacted us, we would have been happy to walk them through how to open the hot tub, as there is no way for us to lock it.
The agreed upon checkout time for this rental was 10am. This is clearly stated in the contract. When our cleaner arrived at 10:30am, the guests were nowhere to be found and they had not packed up their belongings. They left the oven on, the iron on, and the house was in such disarray that the cleaners could not start cleaning. We had new guests scheduled to arrive at 2pm. The so called “spies” - our cleaners - sat in their cars for over two hours waiting for the guests to pack up and depart. They stayed in their cars in our driveway so that they could start right away and called in reinforcements to get the job done in time. We were charged an additional amount for cleaning that day – and rightly so – the cleaner had to spend an extra 2.5 hours on a holiday at our house due to the unplanned late checkout. As other guests have stated in their reviews, I have always tried to go above and beyond to accommodate guests’ requests, and would have been more than happy to work with this person had they communicated any of their needs in advance.
We take pride in treating our renters as guests in our home. We are respectful of them and we always address their needs promptly and professionally. We will continue to aspire to make this the best rental experience and value in Big Sky.

Excellent
This was our third VRBO in Big Sky and we finally found the perfect house for us. The house was immaculately clean, felt spacious and had the most fully equipped kitchen we have ever had. We like to cook at home and the kitchen was a pleasure. Close proximity to the village (you could walk) and only a few minutes from Big Sky was perfect. It snowed quite a bit and we came back to a home with a plowed driveway and and shoveled walkways. The view from the great room was incredible and there was plenty of stacked wood. Please never put a TV in the great room as some trip advisor clients have requested. It would completely ruin the peaceful feeling. We spent time with our family instead! There is a TV downstairs and a whole land for kids and guests if you need it. We have rented at least 20 VRBO's over the years. It is the little things that matter... cleanliness, comfortable beds, a kitchen with enough forks, a good sound system and great location. Jana was easy and great to work with. We used Ski Butlers and must give a shout out to them. It is quite the luxury to have your skis delivered to your rental and fitted while enjoying a glass of wine in front of the fire. Thank you for a fantastic Christmas vacation!

Thanks so much for sharing details about your stay with us! We take pride in providing guests with the comforts of home and believe that is what makes VRBO properties so great. We stock the house with everything a renter would expect at a comparable hotel with extras like a ready to entertain kitchen, condiments and spices, laundry supplies, paper products, and basic bathroom sundries. We have hired one of the best cleaning services in the area and she consistently helps to make our guests experience a great one! Also, so glad to hear that you enjoyed our upstairs living area. It is purposefully planned as an area to appreciate the peace and tranquility of nature, converse, and reflect. We enjoyed having you as a renter and look forward to hosting you again!
We were very happy w/ the accommodations. Everything was as expected. Beds were comfy. The views are spectacular! Kitchen is well equipped. Great location. We would definitely stay again.
We had six adults and a toddler staying in the home and it was perfect for our group. The house was immaculate and comfortable. The views from the deck, as well as the living space were absolutely spectacular. We enjoyed being close to the Town Center and were pleasantly surprised with the grocery stores. We did a big grocery pickup in Bozeman on our way to town, but the local grocery stores had pretty good selection. The kitchen was well stocked and spacious, which was important for us as we cooked family meals every night. Jana was great to work with and very responsive to any questions we threw her way. I would highly recommend The Looking Glass Hideout to anyone looking for a place near Big Sky!
The house was as expected - 15 minutes to the Village of Big Sky and 5 minutes to the local town center. Kitchen, bedrooms and living area perfect for a guy trip of seven. Hot tub and media room were nice touches
We really enjoyed our stay at Looking Glass Hide Out. This house was really well equipped and perfect for our family. The owner had a maintenance person show up on our first day to make sure hot tub, heaters, etc. were in working order. It is in a great location, easy to get to shopping and most importantly Big Sky Resort. We will definitely recommend this home to friends traveling to Big Sky.
We live in Fort Myers, Florida, and discovered Big Sky in 1989 and have been coming back ever since. We fell in love with the sheer beauty and majesty of the area like so many others have. We are outdoor enthusiasts and enjoy hiking, camping, flyfishing, and downhill and cross-country skiing. We have 4 children who made many childhood memories in Montana and share our passion for the area. We also have 8 grandchildren and enjoy watching them cultivate their love for the great outdoors here in Big Sky too. Big Sky holds a special place in our hearts and this house has given us a beautiful place to reconnect with family and friends, unplug from everyday demands, and embrace what's important in life.
Why they chose this property
The answer to this question is self-evident once you walk in the front door. The view out the large floor to ceiling picture windows is captivating. We looked in BigSky at multiple properties for many years. This one has it all including view, amenities, location, and ambience. It has brought our family amazing joy and friendships and lifetime experiences. I think the phrase 'come for vacation, stay for a lifetime' captures exactly what happened to our family in BigSky. We hope that you are able to experience it for yourself.
What makes this property unique
There are phenomenal outdoor activities for every season at your fingertips. If there is something that you like to do, you can do it here in a world class area. The location of our home is ideal. You can easily walk to the town center to have dinner, go to a movie, arrange a flyfishing trip, or hear a concert at the outdoor amphitheater. Cross country skiing is out the door. Lone Mountain Ranch is almost in our backyard. The views at the house are to die for. They are the best in the meadow village. And finally luxury. You can enjoy all this in a luxurious home that has all the amenities. It doesn't get any better!!
