Wonderful Luxury Home On 13 Acres In The Foothills Of Boulder, Colorado
3 bedroom, 3 full bath home - sleeps 6. Perfect for families or couples looking for a quiet get-away, close to Boulder.
Only a 15 minute drive from downtown Boulder, but worlds away.
After 3.5 years of successfully renting our mountain home, we are thrilled to continue to share our Boulder foothills mountain retreat just minutes from the heart of Boulder, Colorado. Whether you are in the Boulder area for a long weekend or for a few weeks our home will guarantee you the best that Boulder has to offer. This large 3500 square foot home offers the serenity of the foothills on 13 acres of land, all the while a short drive to downtown Boulder and all it has to offer – world class restaurants, breathtaking hiking trails, the University of Colorado, a vibrant start-up community, and scientific labs. Come here on vacation, a writing retreat, to visit family, for seminars at the university, or for business.
Our home can sleep 6 adults comfortably in our three bedrooms (each with a King or Queen bed). There is a large living/dining room and sun room with high ceilings, a loft with large screen 3D television, a big open-plan master suite (king bed) including a large bathtub and a steam shower for two, a second bedroom (queen bed) on the ground floor, and a large open-plan study with a comfortable queen sized futon upstairs. The bedrooms and the study each have access to their own full bath.
On the main floor you will find a large south-west facing living room with tall picture windows displaying pine trees as far as the eye can see and a beautiful valley below. The living room has a big stone fireplace, a high fidelity stereo system, a 42 inch HD television, and a dining table that seats 8. On the side of the living room is a fully equipped kitchen.
Next to the main living room is a bright and cozy sun room with a wood burning stove. This area is ideal for reading the newspaper in the sun over a Sunday breakfast, or for opening a bottle of champagne before dinner in front of the wood stove. Also on the main floor is a bedroom outfitted with a queen sized luxury bed (Sterns and Foster) and a full bath. Upstairs above the main living room you will find an open-plan study with a queen-sized futon-style bed. This room has a private full bath.
The property sits on 13 acres of land with sweeping private views. A large flagstone patio in front of the living room and sun room allows for outdoor space on warm days. (Given the sunny exposure this could be at any time of the year.) There is parking available for many cars on an unpaved driveway. You will be a quick 8 mile drive to the heart of downtown Boulder – even closer to other parts of Boulder including restaurants, brewpubs, grocery stores, and other conveniences.

If you want to get away from it all and also want rustic with most modern amenities - this is it!
My husband and son and golden retriever stayed here for ten days. My older son and his wife joined us for a weekend. It was a bit warm on our first day as the house had been closed up - but one evening with the fans on and windows open and the house temperature was perfect from there on. The lack of cell phone service can be inconvenient - BUT if you want to get away - it is perfect. The landline phone is available for guests use and that worked fine. Wifi - made everyone happy - lost it twice but owners instructions on restart brought it right back. TV with all channels and a fully equipped kitchen were lovely. HUGE DVD collection - and we took advantage! Deer were nearby several times and chipmunks in abundance. Happy no mountain lions or bear - but there was always that possibility. It was nice to be so close to town - but totally away from it at the same time... Totally recommend!
Spacious and Accommodating, but Not Flawless
There is a lot to recommend this mountain retreat. The owners are very accommodating (we brought our dog), the location is beautiful and secluded, and the house has numerous amenities. In fact there were a lot more things provided in this home than you'd find in most vacation rentals. Be sure to ask the owners about specific items before bringing your own. There are some things, however, that renters should be aware of: (1) There is no air conditioning and the living/dining room becomes stifling in the heat of summer thanks to lots of glass (tall windows and sliding doors) that face west and no window coverings. A single ceiling fan doesn't help. We were lucky that 3 of our 7 days were cool and cloudy. (2) While you might think that the location would enable you to step out the front or rear doors onto walking trails, it does not. This created some limitations for walking the dog or just taking an early morning or after-dinner stroll. Of course there are many trails in the surrounding area and the owners provide some information to help direct you, but you need to be prepared to drive to such a location. (3) The openness of this home has a lot of pluses, but beware of some privacy limitations. Much of the space does not have doors that define rooms, particularly in the master suite.
Make no mistake, however. The six of us (4 adults/2 kids) enjoyed our stay and being in the Boulder area. We made the most of every minute, and particularly loved being able to relax in a lovely environment.
Thank you for your review. From our personal exchanges I had understood that you had a great visit and that you really enjoyed the house. Given this, I am surprised by your review, and would like to respond for the benefit of future renters who may be concerned by your notes.
1. Air conditioning - Our house is at 7000 feet altitude and cools down in the evenings all year long, with typical evening temperatures in the 60s, even in the heat of summer. You were in the house at the very peak of the summer heat, and although it can be quite hot during the day, the outside temperature still drops into the 60s or low 70s. You can manage the heat quite well by simply opening everything up once the sun sets, and allowing the evening’s cool air to flow into the house. As I write this from the house in mid-August, we are sleeping with windows closed since evening temperatures are now in the 50s. We also have ceiling fans in each room of the house, which should be turned on once the Sun sets, as well as two floor fans which can be moved from room to room.
2. Trailheads - Our house is on 13.5 acres of private land, which our guests are welcome to explore (and walk their dogs). This is private land, so we don’t have nicely groomed trails like you would in a national park. However, we strongly encourage our guests to explore the property a bit - I personally find it quite fun and very serene. As for proper hiking trails, we are surrounded in Colorado by thousands of trails on public land, and I leave my personal hiking suggestions in our Welcome Guide, as well as multiple topographic maps, and hiking books. The books we provide mention many of the trails are dog-friendly.
3. Open Plan house – I make it very clear in our VRBO description that this is a very Open-Plan house, and I am very transparent about this so there are no surprises. In my opinion, it is part of what makes the house so beautiful. Families such as yours are usually quite pleased with the very open master bedroom on the opposite side of the house from the other sleeping spaces and bathrooms, and thus able to be closed off for privacy.
In any case, thanks for allowing me the opportunity to respond to your concerns. I sincerely hope you had a great visit none-the-less and were able to take advantage of all that the house, and that Boulder, have to offer with your family. Wishing you all the best going forward.
Great House with Unbelivable Views
We stayed here for 5 days the second week of June. The propery owners were a pleasure to deal with and were quick to respond to any questions before the rental period. Also they had friends meet us at the house when we arrived to show us the layout and explain all the amenities which were numerous.
The pictures on the VRBO listing do not do this home justice, the views have to been seen to be believed. While we were at the house we saw numerous deer, a fox and a coyote. You truly feel part of nature here.
We did not take advantage of them, as the weather was so nice during our visit, but the owners have available one of the largest selections of DVD's I have ever seen and there are 4 TV's in the house that we could have watched them on. There are also hundreds of books on hand. This would have been great in the case of rainy day.
The internet and satellite TV worked well and a phone is available for any calls you want to make local or long distance, which is important as there is no mobile phone service available due to the location of the home.
A note for potential renters, bring a sleeping mask with you as there are minimal curtains in the house and the sun comes in very early in the morning.
In closing we would absolutely rent this property again, which is the strongest recommendation we could give to any VRBO!
Beautiful mountain house with amazing views from all windows.
We stayed at the house for our daughters's graduation and enjoyed every minute. Just a beautiful and relaxing stay and very comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped and directions, check in, and proximity to Boulder were great. We really loved our stay.
Gorgeous view in a gorgeous home!
The location is very tucked away but a quick drive into town- 15 mins for coffee. As you walk in, it just keeps expanding. There's several seating areas for guests and places to explore. It's very well stocked with DVD's and reading material but the views from every window will keep you occupied. We enjoyed sitting out on the patio, waking up to the sunshine, and the friendly deer. Kim had great communication from another country and kept making sure everything was okay. We absolutely loved it and will be back soon!
It always makes me nervous booking vacation rentals online, as you never really know what you're going to find when you arrive. IMMEDIATELY upon arrival my stress was relieved. We pulled up to the most gorgeous mountain retreat!! The inside of this home was beautifully decorated, fully furnished with everything you could possibly need, from the bedrooms to the bathrooms, the kitchen and beyond! These owners thought of everything! It was very apparent that they had put a lot of time and effort into making sure their renters were comfortable. The photos of this rental do not do it justice....until you arrive at this home you can't possibly appreciate the beauty of it and the surroundings. The views are phenomenal!! And it is only a quick 15 mins (max) to all the stores, shops and restaurants. THANK YOU, Hempstead Family, for generously sharing your vacation wonderland with us!
