A Message from John and Linda:
Dear friends, and guests both past and future...
We are sorry to announce that Shell-Ease by the Sea will be closing our doors on July 1st, 2018. It has been a WONDERFUL experience for the two of us and we have met and made friends with so very many people from all over the world in the past three years. We will treasure the memories and the friendships forever. THANK YOU.
If you don't know already, we had originally planned on RETIRING to Belize, not running full time business. And although it was a blast, we really saw that it was not actually what we wanted to be doing. So we decided to list the property for sale and see what happened. Most properties on this island take 3-5 years to sell, so we figured we could slowly wind down the business as time went on.
Well, that was not the case as the house sold in just three weeks! The new owners are a wonderful family that plan to move here full time and enjoy all that Belize and San Pedro has to offer. They were thrilled to find this gem of a property, and we are very happy for them. They do not, however, intend to continue this as a B&B or as a whole house rental.
So it is with sadness in our hearts, we will be saying goodbye to our Belize home and our Bed and Breakfast that brought so many people so much joy over the years.
With warm regards and the fondest of memories,
John and Linda Shelley

About John and Linda Shelley
Linda and I fell in love with Ambergris Caye the day we stepped foot on the island. It's one of the most delightful places in the world. The people are so friendly, the scenery is beautiful, and the diving and snorkeling is spectacular. We have always lived with fun and adventure as cornerstones of our existance, and this house is just an extension of that desire.
John and Linda Shelley purchased this House in 2014
Why John and Linda Shelley chose San Pedro
We bought this house because it is one of very few private oceanfront homes that does not share the beach or lot with any other houses. This is a house you can simply feel at home in. It is not stuffy or pretentious yet it has all of the conveniences you would want. It is designed for comfort and fun.
What makes this House unique
This house is located in a perfect location. 4.5 miles from town is far enough to be peaceful and quiet yet close enough for quick trips to town when you want more things to do.

The perfect place to unwind and unplug
Sometimes vacations can end up being a lot of work; not so when staying at John and Linda’s at Shell-Ease-By-The-Sea. We had a truly relaxing, fun, adventurous vacation. We appreciated all the touches that made it easy and enjoyable: John and Linda provided transportation from and to the airport, picked up a case of beer for us on one of their trips to town, made planning snorkeling trips easy, and provided an awesome and plentiful breakfast every morning. We used the beach cruisers a lot, and Pablo kept them in great shape. Betty kept our room in perfect order, made sure we had all we needed, and surprised us daily with her towel sculptures. Both Pablo and Betty are very friendly, approachable and considerate.
The location was perfect, right on the beach and a nice bike ride away from San Pedro. There was time to be truly idle, lazing in lounge chairs watching the kite-boarders, reading or visiting several nearby beach bars. It was easy to be more adventurous, taking out the kayaks and seeing spotted eagle rays jumping out of the water right in front of us, riding bikes to Secret Beach, and snorkeling.
Our time at Shell-Ease was wonderful.
Fantastic bed and breakfast experience. Fantasic
John, Linda, Pablo groundskeeper, Betty housekeeper, Noel snorkel guide, and Sam/Joe scuba guides made the week all about our family. Breakfasts were outstanding. Location was away from the main area so we did not have as much street and boat traffic so it was relaxing. Close enough to town to cart in. Near the “Truckstop” restaurant for food and especially entertainment for adults and teenagers. Also near Secret beach.
Took the arrival day off and then did the all day “Spectacular” snorkel trip with Noel, John and Linda as guides. Stopped at four sights and Caye Caulker for lunch. Great family experience. Fed 50 pound tarpon by hand. Our son had his go pro at shark ray alley. About 10 boats there so wasnt expecting to see much. Then Noel pulled out his chum and we were instantly surrounded by about 25 nurse sharks, countless fish and many rays. Our son got tremendous shots. Linda was hand feeding some large rays. What more? Noel locates a large manatee and we got to snorkel there. We scuba’d, did the Blue hole, toured the island; but this “All Day Spectacular” snorkel trip was the best experience and value.
Betty cooked a Mayan dinner. Pablo showed my son how to pick and open a coconut. Got to see John play at a restaurant. Got Noel to do a special cart tour of the island.
Thank you John and Linda for a great vacation.
Can’t Be Beat in Belize
Wow! Shell Ease is just about as perfect a B&B as you can find. My wife and I just spent 2 fabulous weeks with John and Linda staying in the Serenity Room. Super clean and very private room but with access to a very open and spacious home and property right on the beach. Plenty of toys to use free of charge that we took full advantage of to incl snorkeling and fishing right off the dock. John’s breakfasts were delicious and huge with Linda providing the fresh fruit and juices daily. Enough fuel for a very active day with little need for lunch. John even got up with us at 5am the day of our mainland tour and sent us off with 6 breakfast burritos - (and drove us to the ferry) wow! Speaking of tours, John and Linda set us up with all tours picking only the best for the things we wanted to see/do. Kudos to Noel for fantastic snorkeling and Albert for the personal tour of Xuantanich and cave tubing (the best!). And dont forget Betty the housekeeper extrordinaire (loved her daily towel animals) and Mayan fish chef, and Pablo the groundskeeper keeping the property and the lush tropical gardens in impeccable condition while helping guests with bikes, floats, lounges, ping pong etc etc. John and Linda are simply fabulous hosts that go all the way towards making for a very enjoyable stay. I would highly recommend a stay at Shell Ease to all friends and family and plan to return soonest. Oh, and John is a very accomplished musician who plays the local watering holes and will jam with other musician guests (me) - total fun!
Absolutely fabulous experience
Linda and John were the most fabulous hosts you could ever imagine. The website does not do the property justice, we were blown away by the beauty of the property, and the condition it is kept. Betty and Pablo were at our beckon call for any needs, no matter how often we relied on them. We had Betty cook an authentic Mayan fish dish cooked in a huge banana leaf and grilled on the BBQ. The experience and taste was out of this world. We traveled to town with Linda or Pablo a few times, including watching John perform as a musician at a couple of local bars, in their Honda open seated 4 seater off road vehicle. On our final day John and Pablo took us to the reef (5 minutes away) to enjoy snorkeling for an hour, after the charter boat went mechanical at last minute. Breakfasts every day were fabulous, changing daily, and catering to any dietary requests that were made. I HIGHLY recommend enjoying the hospitality and great experience called Shell-ease by the sea.
Rest and Relaxation at Shell-Ease by the Sea
My wife and I stayed at John and Linda's "Shell-Ease by the Sea" for 9 days and couldn't have felt anymore relaxed and welcomed as we did at their oasis. From the Groundkeeper Pablo to the housekeeper Betty, everyone made us feel comfortable and welcomed.
The breakfasts that John prepared were amazing and you never left the table hungry. We even had Betty the housekeeper prepare us a few suppers and they were delicious as well.
John and Linda's B & B is far enough away from the hustle and bustle of San Pedro, but yet close enough to get to by water taxi if need be. It really is the perfect location to just sit back and relax on the beach or sit on the dock and watch the happenings in the sea all around you. There is snorkel equipment to use as well as kayaks and floating chairs to lounge in. The water is as clear as imaginable and is teeming with life. A long walk up the beach every morning always produced something different to look at and everyone you pass was very friendly.
We booked a couple of snorkeling trips with Noel as our guide and to say the least he is absolutely amazing. From swimming with Sharks, Rays and giant Turtles to feeding Tarpon we did it all and the personal experience gained from his expertise and joining everyone in the water is unmatched. The day long trip to snorkel and a visit to Caye Caulker is a must. You will not be disappointed.
Even Gypsy the watch dog and Tigger the cat were friendly and always up for a petting.
If you are looking for a place to sit back and relax and be pampered, this is the place for you. We truly had a wonderful time and left there fully recharged.
Thanks John and Linda for being who you are.

Great location, wonderful property, amazing hosts and staff!
This is one of the best vacation we have had for fishing and snorkeling! Shell-Ease By The Sea is perfect on the beach, 4.5 miles north of San Pedro, so you are away from town, but still able to hop on the water taxi to town. Linda and John are great hosts and we left thinking of how we miss them as friends! John cooked amazing breakfast for us and was accommodating on the breakfast times since we had early morning departures on our fishing trips. Linda was amazing with planning our excursions and they were all great! The staff - Isabelle and Pablo - were always there to help us with luggage, laundry etc, and always with a smile. We also miss Gypsy, the Australian Shepherd. Linda and John even invited us to join us for Christmas dinner!
For our snorkeling trips, we were thrilled with our guide Noel who is the friendliest guy as well as knowledgeable about the reef and fish. We thoroughly enjoyed his company. The 2 snorkeling trips were simply amazing - water clarity, beautiful reef and lots of fish, and perfect weather and water temperature.
For fishing, we went flats fishing with Omar, deep sea fishing with Sea Star, reef fishing with Noel, and night fishing with Daniel. We caught a total of 125 fish, 21 species in all. The best are the wahoo, bone fish, queen triggerfish, barracuda, dog snapper, cubera snapper, horseside jack and tarpon! Lots of snappers, and groupers for dinner!
We plan to return in the future!
There are a couple nice restaurants nearby and the Mata Grande grocery store is a stone's throw away and has a nice variety of items. Going into town is a great way to meet the locals and do some shopping in the square where many vendors set up their wares. Amazing snorkeling sites are just a few minutes away.
