About Benedicte Laur

The hostess of Casa Malia is Beni, I am a French woman who after travelling the world for several years decided to settle down for a while in Puerto Vallarta.

I can help you out in your everyday life in Puerto Vallarta and also for choosing your next holiday destination.

Your other hosts will be slightly furrier, a dozen cats and one real mellow dog girl: Ushie.

Ushie loves having guests as they are a constant supply of cuddles and treats

All of my pets are rescues. Sometimes there might be another pet that I will be fostering until it finds its permanent home.

I am pretty involved in various associations that rescue pets throughout the area (Puro Gato, Angelicat, LADRA, Peace Animals, Mexpup, Acopio). Casa Malia is a pet friendly home, any pet, provided it is well behaved, is welcomed here at no extra fee (but a deposit will be asked of you that will be given back upon your departure if your pet has caused no damages). If you are seeking to adopt you have found the perfect place to help you in your search (please do not buy pets, it makes puppy mills develop even more and stops a pet from getting saved and loved).

Benedicte Laur purchased this bed and breakfast in 2013

Why Benedicte Laur chose Cerro

I visited several properties before picking this one. It seemed perfect for my needs to create an intimate guesthouse. Offering a magnificent view over the Sierras Madre mountains and part of Puerto Vallarta. As a European the charm of the neighborhood was unbeatable. I love the fact that during my walks I will salute most people and chat with some. It is a life that has a human dimension. I was burnt out on big cities after having lived 15 years in Paris.

What makes this bed and breakfast unique

I can help you if you want to do activities that are a bit different. Among my favorites are: the Botanical Garden; the hike to Las Animas; the little creeks of Conchas Chinas where the water is crystal clear, also calmer so that you can enjoy swimming in safer conditions if the waves make you feel uneasy. And as time goes by, I learn new little getaways…

Maybe you will feel like having a little ‘party’ of your own with the other guests of the house (there are only 3 bedrooms available for guests, so that you quickly get to know one another) and make your own meal or get some Mexican lady to come over and prepare you a delicious Mexican meal.

Casa Malia guesthouse is a home where you can have company if you want to, or enjoy a nice moment alone. Even if you are by yourself and are too shy to travel or go to a nice charming place, don’t be. I totally know the feeling, during my travels I had to deal with that all the time. I will make sure you feel nice and cosy, and if you want to, I will make you share some of my personal life.

My hope is to transform Casa Malia into a place where people feel in harmony together and with their surroundings. That’s why I did not want a bigger place, I wanted something intimate.

Hope to welcome you very soon in Casa Malia !

A Very Warm and Friendly Casa

  • 5 of 5

If you have read the reviews for Casa Malia, you will have read about many wonderful things regarding this vacation rental. We agree with all of them! This truly is a special place. The casa is beautiful and very tastefully decorated. It is spacious and airy and exceptionally clean. There were three rooms available and we and a friend of ours took two. The other room was rented by a man whom we connected with well - he joined us for dinner and laughter often!

Beni, the owner, has pets - lots of them. During our stay, she had one very sweet dog, lots of cats, and three kittens. My partner is quite allergic to dogs and did not have any issues during her stay. This is likely due to the home being very clean and much of the living being outdoors on the covered and open terraces. The pets do not enter the bedrooms. All the bedrooms have large and very comfortable beds. Our ensuite bathroom had an awesome walk in shower. The open air kitchen is well stocked with gear and basic food stuff. There is a built-in grill, that we used. One can become very comfortable relaxing by the dipping pool, enjoying the incredible view and sipping margaritas. But eventually when you venture out, you find you are a short, pleasant walk to restaurants, produce and fish markets, and tortilleria. The Malecon is about a 10 minute walk with a couple of routes available. It is slightly uphill on the way back over cobblestone streets and stairs. The walking and stairs are not bad at all if you are in reasonable shape. Uber is now in PV so that is an option along with taxis if you are tired or wanting to explore a different area of town.

As if a great casa in a great location isn't enough, really the best part of Casa Malia is the host, Beni. She is vibrant with a wonderful zest for life and a big heart. We enjoyed sharing good conversation, drinks, and food with her. When she discovered we were going to be celebrating my wife's birthday, she baked an exceptionally tasty cake. I believe the only tension we had on the entire trip, was who would get the last piece! If you are fortunate, as we were, she may take you on a walk around town to get oriented or on a hike through the jungle or on an excursion to an old mining town in the mountains. Beni is a vast resource for local information. We have stayed in many rentals by owners and we can say without hesitation this was the best experience we have had.

Beautiful Casa Malia is in great location from which to see Puerto Vallarta!

  • 5 of 5

We highly recommend staying at Casa Malia. Beni was very helpful in making recommendations for attractions to see, places to eat and shop and showing us transportation routes. We enjoyed lounging on the main patio and preparing food in the outdoor guest kitchen. The vibrant colors, stately rooms and interesting furnishings add an element of fun. Her description of the property is spot-on accurate. Beni's pets are well-behaved and a pleasure to be around. Case Malia provides everything we could have wanted and we are very happy to have made the choice to stay here.

Fabulous location from which to explore Old Town Puerto Vallarta and Zona Romantica

  • 5 of 5

Casa Malia and Beni are absolutely WONDERFUL! The property is located in Gringo Gulch, an easy 7-minute walk to the beach and the famous Malecon, or 5 minutes to the Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe or many nice art galleries. The neighborhood is safe and well-lit at night, and there are many great places to eat nearby whether you interested fine dining or local street food. A definite advantage this property has over so many other accommodation options within the area is the spectacular view and airiness as it overlooks the Isla Cuale and has views to the ocean ans southern hills. The rooms are clean and pleasantly appointed, and the shared lounging area with a dipping pool is a great place to enjoy a few cervezas in the afternoon before venturing back out for dinner. However, there is a full kitchen (refrigerator, oven, microwave, blender, etc.) if you would prefer to whip something up yourself. Beni, the host, is fantastic! She'll offer as much (or as little) help as you wish. It should be noted that there were a few cats (maybe 5) and a couple of dogs at the property, and we were a little apprehensive about this, but needn't have been. They were not a bother at all. In fact most of the time they were completely out of sight. Overall, I couldn't recommend Casa Malia any more. The next time we are back in PV, my wife and I will definitely be staying here.

Gem in Gringo Gulch!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed 8 days here, and loved the location and especially the in-door/outdoor living. I have so many pictures of the lovely plants and flowers that abound on the property.

Beni is most helpful and gives you as much or as little direction as you need. This was our fourth trip staying on the south side and was our favorite by far. The cats were never an issue.

I will also suggest you be in decent shape, as there are many stairs.

Fabulous holiday accommodation --

  • 5 of 5

Fantastic ... all you could ever want for a holiday home. The location is great, the house is fabulous, a spacious typical Mexican home made comfortable and cosy with tasteful furnishings and many whimsical accessories. A fully equipped kitchen, open and spacious living area ideal for relaxing, reading a book, catching up on internet correspondence, or cooling off in the dipping pool, and when you are ready to explore the town it is an easy walk down to Cuale island and into the Romantic Zone or the Malecon. Everything is perfect and to cap it off Beni is the most delightful, warm and welcoming hostess. We will most definitely be back.

Casa Malia, lo mejor de Puerto Vallarta

  • 5 of 5

We spent few days at Casa Malia. We really appreciated our journey. Awesome view, very nice rooms, quiet and well located close to the old town and the Zona Romantica. Furthermore Benedicte is lovely host. In fact, we feeled like at home. Really looking forward to go back.

Map

Casa Malia was completely remodeled in 2006 and is located in Gringo Gulch (made famous by Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton). Facing south, the Casa has 180 degree views of the Sierra Madre Mountains, the Cuale River, Banderas Bay and much of the town.

It is located in the hill above the Cuale Island, in an area called Gringo Gulch, 10 minutes’ walk away from the Romantic Zone and from the beach. People say the area with its cobbled streets and mix of big beautiful houses belonging to foreigners and small simple Mexican houses, remind them of villages in Europe. Due to its partly Mexican neighborhood, you will sometimes hear singing, roosters, dogs barking, and of course, the church’s bells on Sundays and other Catholic holy days.

This neighborhood has kept some of its authenticity, everyone knows each other and greets one another.
