We've recently remodelled this charming Manzanita beachfront vacation home!
We couldn't resist this house - and we'll bet you'll love it too. First, there's the insane 180º views of Manzanita Beach with the scenic Neahkahnie mountain. Then there's the original beach rock wood burning fireplace to add to the charm and coziness.
We've opened up the kitchen to the views and modernized it just enough to accomodate the most discerning vacation cook. Of course you'll enjoy the honed granite countertops, brand new appliances (and yes, there's a dishwasher. It's just hidden) and everything you need to create your dining masterpiece.
This historic beach home was the Caretaker's Cottage for our Historic Reed House, now just two houses north of this enchanting bungalow. Equipped for 6, it has two cozy bedrooms, each with a queen bed, and one bathroom with shower.
This well designed cozy house is the perfect space for your small individual, couples or group vacation, or as additional space to large groups visiting our Historic Reed House.

Beautiful views, well equipped, new kitchen and appliances, information provided and helpful. Great location off main road. Access to the beach. Nice linens.
A lovely, spotless, well-appointed home right on the shore. The view of the beach and waves from the living room is fabulous. Awesome fireplace, great kitchen, comfy beds. We will be back!
Excellent, we loved walking to the beach in the morning and watching the water from the comforts of home. We enjoyed quality time with two of our adult daughters! Thank you!
We had a great stay here for our kids’ 10th birthday. We lucked out with some decent November weather and had a nice time! Good proximity to the beach, and views from the house when the weather wasn’t as nice. Comfy furnishings and well appointed kitchen. Not a bad walk down the beach to town either, took maybe 10-15 minutes even stopping to look at every shell :-)
Nicely updated older beach house. Conveniently located across from easy Neah-Kah-Nie beach access, about a mile north of town. Also close to multiple coast trails foe hiking. Kitchen has everything you need to cook a meal for a crowd. Wood burning fireplace was wonderful. Stop by the store in town to get bundles of wood or bring your own.Perfect for couple with dog getaway.
The Caretakers Bungalow was the perfect place for me to celebrate my birthday week with my best friends. We loved the location and the proximity to the beach and businesses. The large windows offered wonderful views of the beach and sunsets. I wished we could’ve sat outside on the Adirondack chairs to enjoy the view. Nevertheless we had an awesome week. Thank you.

Not worth the cost
We spent nearly a large amount of money for two nights at this property. Initially it appeared to be pretty clean and beautiful, but we noticed the floors were dirty, we found fruit flies/gnats inside the house. The view of the ocean isn’t as clear as you’d think due to quite a bit of obstruction from some bushes, and the windows that gave beach view were extremely dirty. In addition, the laundry list of rules is extensive and we spent hours doing towels and dishes (and putting them away per the rules) on our last morning to avoid the threatened late fees if we weren’t out by 11. This is all on top of paying substantial cleaning fees. I’m VERY certain the small place doesn’t cost that much to clean, particularly since we did the towels and dishes, as well as sweeping the floor on our first day of stay.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review Sunil. Regarding the cleaning, we are on call 24 hours a day to address any issues a guest may have. We specifically mention in our welcome message to please contact us with any issues so that we may make it right. Our goal is to offer relaxing, stress free getaways. However we are surprised with your unhappiness regarding your stay. When our staff twice spoke with you, it was their understanding you were having a wonderful time, and everything was perfect. That being said, we have the best cleaners in the area who clean the other large oceanfront homes. They have a two step quality check to make sure things are clean and tidy before arrival. I will be sure to discuss your feedback with them and make sure everything is up to our standards. Our rates we charge our guests are itemized for the guest before a reservation is made. Our departure policies are standard to the area and are clearly stated within the policies you reviewed and agreed to before your booking was processed. Again, I’m sad to hear you didn’t have a wonderful time. We’ve had so many happy returning and new guests, this is our most popular house. I’m sorry it didn’t work for you. I hope you find just the right house for your next vacation.
Great property and friendly hosts with quick communication. The street the house is on is very quiet and provides quick (less than one minute!) access to the beach. Equipped with everything needed and comfortable beds. The view of the ocean with all of the windows is hard to beat. Plan to stay again!

Poor communications and assumptions made by owners
This was the strangest weekend getaway I have ever had when it comes to owners spying on tenants and making wild assumptions. We reserved the four person house for our 49th and 50th birthdays. My partners parents flew in from New York and had hotel room in Garibaldi. The day of her birthday was spent at the beach in the sun, which was wonderful. Prior to walking to the beach we had five people at the property on the side deck preparing to go to the beach. In that time the owners or staff went by and noticed the number of people exceeded four and apparently assumed all those people were sleeping at the house. Rather than approaching us to get all the information, I get an email with wild accusations of wrong doing and stating that my cell phone number was a land line number and I was violating the rental agreement.
I am not sure what the owners issues were other than being immature, unable to dial the correct phone number, and passive agressive towards people attempting to enjoy their weekend with a small party of five (three slept at the house).
To top it off, at 10:20am the following morning, someone from the property parked outside the house to observe us packing up. Very strange interactions and we will find a different company/owners to rent from in the future.
I can understand that some rentals could be abused by some renters, however, this was not the case and the feeling of being projected as being a guilty party in the minds of the owners is not pleasant, professional or necessary in my opinion.
I would not recommend this property or any properties under this management or owner.

This review is very unfortunate, indeed. We started offering our family beach house to others in hopes they might enjoy the wonderful, relaxing experience of our part of the Oregon Coast. It’s obvious that this wasn’t what this guest experienced which is disappointing. Everyone deserves a relaxing vacation, especially now.
We received a call from a neighbor with a complaint that a guest at the house had parked their car in such a way that it was partially in the street, and partially parked on the lawn. Our service drove by the house to check this, and saw this to be the case. Additionally they saw in their drive by that there appeared to be five guests at the house, where there’s a four guest maximum.
I attempted to call Davin, and the number I had been given was a land line. I then sent him an email asking him to contact me, that I had tried to call but the number I had wasn’t a cell, and tried to find out more about the situation. I also asked for his cell number, which we need in case of an emergency.
I have no idea what the reference is regarding “at 10:20am the following morning, someone from the property parked outside to observe us packing up.” We didn’t send anyone to watch the guest. Possibly it was someone parked waiting to go enjoy the beach. Or, if it was closer to his 11:00 am check-out, it might have been the cleaning service waiting for their departure to start work.
I’m sorry Davin felt spied upon. It’s our job to make sure we’re not in violation of our permit, and that we continue to be good neighbors. I’m truly sorry that our one email seeking clarification ruined their three night stay. After receiving his reply, that was the end of the subject.
While we’ve had great reviews from past guests regarding our interactions, we will continue to strive to do our best to offer relaxing vacation experiences for our guests.
Great location if you want to soak in the ocean!! We happen to get a few incredible weather days and enjoyed our time on the patio as well as the beach. Having such an easy/quick access for us was key. Clean and well organized, highly recommend!
Without a doubt, the best decision was to book the house for our long weekend. It was perfect for myself and my 13 yo son. We were able to cook breakfasts and dinners, make a fire, walk the beach, and relax in a clean and modern space at the end of the day. This house has everything to make your time on the coast extra comfortable and special. Haven’t even left yet and had family and friends ask about booking it for their future travel. We had a very minor mishap (knocked a shelf off the wall - no one was hurt but the shelf didn’t make it) and the owner was very responsive and understanding. We wouldn’t hesitate to rent again and my son has requested that we come back next year for spring break.
Pleasant, but stormy week. The bungalow is very well equipped and comfortable. Very nice view the wild surf. Owners were quick to respond to our concerns.
We love staying here and will likely be back. Just a beautiful location and everything that we needed was provided for us. I have to say that the floors in the bedroom were very very dirty. I dropped my pillow on the floor to the side of bed when we arrived... and when I picked it up there was hair small dust all over it. I wiped up the floor with a damp cloth. Also there are many condiments left and things in the house which is stated will be removed on the covid precautions. Truthfully, this didn't really bother us. We actually used some of them but I just wanted to let the owners know.
A beautiful Escape, very comfortable and private and we really appreciated the ease of getting in and out and the communication with the owners. Thank you so much!
My Sister and stayed in the bungalow for "sister" time and thoroughly enjoyed out stay. The bungalow was cute, clean, convenient to beach and town! Even though it was March the weather was lovely, no rain and lots of sunshine. Thank you Owners of this lovely Manzanita Dream!
We are so glad we chose to stay in Manzanita, a small but beautiful spot on the coast. This cottage was immaculate, cozy and comfortable with everything we needed for our weekend! Beautiful views, easy beach access, quiet street and gorgeous interior! Easy drive to nearby Oswald State Forest, Canon Beach, and Seaside. Yummy breakfast at a Yolk and espresso at Msnzanita news. Firewood and wine at the little Apple grocery. Cozy fire and movie were a great way to end the day. Can’t wait to be back at this special hideaway!
The home is loaded with everything you need. Super easy access to the less crowded side of the beach. Had great communication with the owners. The TV and thermostats are cumbersome but it may have just been operator error.
Caretaker's Cottage was by far my favorite VRBO yet, and I've left hotels behind for VRBO 15 years ago. The cottage was exactly what I needed...great view of the stormy sea, roaring fire, clean and clutter free surroundings, and a great book on my Kindle. The house is immaculate, organized, and compact. The kitchen is easy to cook in with lots of counter space, and it is super easy to keep clean. I plan to return.
Really cute and comfortable home right across from the beach. Beautiful views of the ocean! Real strict end of stay cleaning rules. Surprised that the host didn’t check in with us while the power was out for 9 hours to see if we needed flashlights or candles????
Location, location, location - being so near the beach makes for any easy and beautiful visit. The home was sparkling clean as well as invitingly clean and comfortable. Kitchen is fully furnished - although we missed normal (8-16 oz) beverage-sized glasses (wine and very small glasses were available).
Our stay was unfortunately brief but very enjoyable!
We have owned holiday rental properties ourselves so are familiar with the issues that can arise, both as a renter and a landlord. This property was accurately advertised, was close to restaurants, was clean and well stocked. Overall we were very happy with the location and with the property itself. There are a couple of minor fixes that I would recommend :
(1) The bathroom sink needs a plug.
(2) The blind on the window in the south west corner does not open and close - not an issue for us but something you should know.
I recognize that most people nowadays do many things using smart phones - find restaurants, check their menus etc - and, while we are semi- Luddites, being aged and from a low tech generation, we did use the internet to check out the local culinary establishments. That said, in our rental properties we always provided a" helpful hints" book that gave details of local restaurants and activities (we did find the two page printout that dealt with somelocal activity). Our books also gave instructions on using the TV and other devices, connecting to the internet etc. Your care package dealt with the latter but not the former. Getting to the adult version of Netflix proved a bit of a challenge, though we got there eventually, having got to a number of kiddie versions first.
I suspect that less technology - challenged visitors would have had less trouble.

About the host
Hosted by Kim Bergstrom
I'm Kim Bergstrom. My husband, Eric Bergstrom, have built on my father's dream of owning a beachfront house on the Oregon Coast. We now own three, and much to my husband's dismay we continue to grow. We purchased our family beach house from my father in 1996, and have thrived through sweat equity - most people think of us as rather crazy, but we've taken something we love to do and are making it our second chapter in life.
We enjoy taking properties with potential and great location, adding a facelift without removing the character, and introducing them to our expanding group of guests. Our latest endeavor is a turn of the century three story house which will sleep 20. We put a lot of thought and work into each house, and luckily have found guests who love the results. Like many of our guests we've come to know over the years, we hope you also come to think of this special house as your very own vacation home - without all the work!
Why they chose this property
With deep ties to the Manzanita community, we've watched this house over the years. Put up for sale, it needed love and attention, from the weedy front yard to the small windows and precarious route to the side deck. Kim and her daughter saw the potential and convinced Eric to join in the fun.
There definitely was a learning curve for all - by the end of the project we could have written a book detailing the fun and craziness with remodeling a cedar log house. With big windows and decks to take advantage of the beautiful setting and gorgeous ocean views, opening up smaller rooms to big open areas, designer touches here and there -- well, we invite you to see the results. Or check out our reviews. Our regular guests, and new guests, have awarded us great feedback. And every happy guest makes the experience worthwhile!
What makes this property unique
Spend your next vacation at this cozy oceanfront Caretakers Bungalow on one of the most famous Oregon beaches. You'll love the modern updates to this historic cabin, including updated desiger kitchen with honed granite counters and awesome views!
