Why Tara Bentley chose Kentucky

This spacious and historic home is the perfect resting spot for your family's visit to the Creation Museum.

What makes this house unique

This quaint, historic house was once the home to Captain Perry McNeely and his family. The Captain and his wife had 12 children and all four boys went on to be Captains as well. Their home faces the beautiful Ohio River and you can imagine wifey and the children watching the river for Captain to return home. You family will love spending time together in this home. With open space flowing between the living room, dining room, and nook space… you'll have room to gather together for meals, games and late night conversations. The loft room is perfect for children to play together!

Very comfortable, quiet neighborhood , perfect for our needs

  • 5 of 5

We brought our church youth group, 18 people, to the Creation Museum and The Ark and we all had a comfortable place to sleep. We had enough supplies including towels that last our entire stay. The kitchen was well supplied. Believe it or not we all took showers and never ran out of hot water!!! The neighborhood was friendly and enjoyed our afternoon walks. The community center, just around the corner, had a playground for the smaller kids. It was a quiet little town and when we told others where we were staying, everyone had something good to say about Petersburg. The house was very clean and Tara was extremely easy to work with. I would recommend this place to everyone and if we venture back again, we will stay here again. Try it ...you will be pleased.

The house layout is disingenuous.

  • 2 of 5

First of all , the bedrooms in the house should be 4 enclosed bedroom . The loft is not a bedroom because it is accessed only by going through one of the bedrooms. However, it is a good sleeping area for children Although we had to drape the railings of the loft with sheets for privacy.

Secondly, there is only one shower and it is found in the master bedroom . Therefore , everyone who wants a shower has to go through someone's bedroom. The other bathroom which is the main bathroom only has a tub . The first night we ran out of hot water . Someone must have came the next day and turned up the temperature on the hot water heater because it remained hot afterwards

Third of all the kitchen and bathrooms were not cleaned . We spent a good two hours cleaning up those areas especially the stove , oven ,fridge and counter top . I do believe it should have been cleaned before our arrival . The owner needs to have a professional cleaning service and not friends or family doing the job inadequately .

With all that out of the way , let's talk about the good things. The place was huge . A full living room, large dining room with three tables in it without it being crowded. Plus there was an additional dining room area with another table in it . Even the kitchen had a table in it . It was nice to have dedicated parking spots . The bedrooms were large except for a tiny one upstairs with sleeping for one . The house had a nice old colonial feel .

Owner's Response: While most of our guests are the kindest people in the world, there are guests that make you want to close your doors and change your phone number. "The house layout is disingenuous." Disingenuous? Defined as not candid or sincere? I'm not sure how a house can be candid or sincere. We do provide floor plans in advance so that guests may see the layout of the home prior to arrival and decide if it works for your group. Our website listing is very thorough and includes a description of the bathrooms and their amenities. We are very clear about the loft area and our listing includes photos. As for the hot water, when the guest called us late that night they indicated that several people took showers, plus used the bathtub, and ran the dishwasher. That's a lot for any water heater to handle in such a short period of time. No one adjusted the thermostat at any point during their stay. Regarding the cleaning, it was rushed because the guest arrived several hours prior to check-in time and insisted on being given access immediately. All of the beds were made, the house was cleaned, and one of the owners of the home (my mother) even gave the guest a personal walk-through. If something was out of order, we would gladly have cleaned it at that time. It was clear that this guest was unhappy from the moment they arrived. We offered to refund their money and let them move to a hotel, but they said that everything was fine and not to worry about it. We work very hard to meet the expectations of all of our guests, but it's often clear that this is an impossible task. We encourage all of guests to read through our property description thoroughly and let us know if you have any questions.

Plenty of space for a great price in a really cool old house.

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time at this house. It's only 10 minutes from the creation museum and about 45 minutes from the ark encounter. There was tons of room for our two families with a total of 8 kids. They loved sleeping altogether in the huge room upstairs and playing hide and seek in the house and the huge yard. The kitchen had plenty of plates, bowls, pots and pans and other utensils. There were plenty of towels and wash clothes as well. The only drawback I would say is the town doesn't have a major grocery store and the closest one is 20 minutes away but there is a small store in town that has a few essentials. Overall though it's a really great place to stay.

Very very pleased with the house and the community.

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed staying at.the house. .It suited all our needs. Our 4 grandsons really liked the idea of being able to stay in the same room upstairs. The back porch was wonderful. The whole community was wonderful, we all had lunch at the local store/restaurant. Would do the whole trip over again. Thank you...

Spring Break Vaca with Family & Friends

  • 4 of 5

Hello Tara,

This is a short note to let you know how much we appreciate you letting us stay in your home while we visited in the Cincinnati area. For our group your home worked well. The Historical aspects of the house and other nearby buildings made it a special trip for us all. The location over looking the river is so very nice & peaceful. With all the tables & chairs it made it possible for us to eat together & play board games when the weather wasn't cooperating. I would recommend slippers or 2-3 pairs of socks for the cool tile floors and another shower and/or bathroom when you have over 10 people staying would also be a huge PLUS. Would I stay again in your house....absolutely! I have given your info to 3 people already for future trips to Kentucky. Thanks again Tara. Sincerely, Karen White Wamego Kansas.
