About Lin Bernhardt

The husband and wife team of Lin and Lynn love to share their little piece of heaven with others. We're passionate about caring for the land and respecting all living things. We have provided homes for a number of rescued animals including horses, chickens, goats (though not currently), dogs and cats. When away from the farm, we enjoy being in nature and taking off in our camper.

Lin Bernhardt purchased this cottage in 2011

Why Lin Bernhardt chose Talent

We were so lucky to find this property....having a gorgeous rural home on serene property so close to wasn't even on the market when we purchased it! It was a place for our horses where we could grow our own hay, have a large garden, and be close to all the amazing Talent the area has to offer. Theater, art galleries, beautiful wineries, amazing music venues, lakes and rivers close by all add to why we choose to call the Rogue Valley our home.

What makes this cottage unique

Beautiful open spaces, gardens, animals, privacy, tranquility, and a serene country setting but close in to name just a few!

Shady Grove Farm is located in a beautiful agricultural area which means you may occasionally hear the sounds of tractors cutting hay, a rooster crowing off in the distance, or other sounds associated with farming, but generally it's super quiet and peaceful. Also, we do not ask for a cleaning fee but ask that our guests leave the cottage clean (i.e. wash and put away dishes, wipe down counters and appliances, sweep. Dogs are conditionally allow but ask that guests check with us first.)

Wonderful, peaceful place

  • 5 of 5

Very shaded area so even with the heat we stayed cool. Peaceful pond on the grounds, with chickens and horses and dogs. Fully stocked kitchen. Most of all, very nice people. Would return.

My wife and I have been members of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival since 1984, and have been visiting the Ashland area since the late 1970s. We haven't stayed everywhere there is to stay, of course, but we have certainly dipped our toes in many different types of places. Usually, the plays and an occasional outstanding meal dominate our memories, but once in a while the place where we stay is also remarkable. Shady Grove Farm offered one of our more memorable experiences. We are rural people, have our own large garden, and are quite used to country life. Lin and Lynn made us feel immediately at home. They were welcoming and generous, but also very discrete and not intrusive, though just around the corner from the cottage. The cottage itself is extremely comfortable and well-appointed. The kitchen is large, and we actually took all but one of our meals in it, which is quite a change for us. There are chickens, and chickens make noise, to be sure ... but it is the type of noise that we find natural and reassuring. I mention it because it is about the only noise you are going to hear. Lovely. We will return, and we seldom say that.

Magical Place That Fills Your Heart !

  • 5 of 5

It is hard to put into words the feeling of staying at the cottage on this enchanting farm.Whether it was our smiles when seeing the two proud family of geese pararde by the lovely pond, with their goslings or the sunlight filtering through the budding trees while walking down the lane, or maybe the dramatic clouds on the nearby mountain vistas, made everyday a joy. The cottage itself was very confortable and well appointed for our month long stay. Our hosts Lynn and Lin were very gracious and attentive to any needs we had, including fresh organic eggs ! Being animal and nature lovers it was a treat to be living amongst horses, all the feathered friends and of course , Jack , the Great Pyrenees, greeting us everyday. I wish there was a 10 star rating, as I would gladly give it,

Very beautiful and peaceful stay

  • 3 of 5

My husband and 2 daughters enjoyed our stay here while visiting family in the area. It is very quiet and comfortable. It feels much roomier than 800 sq ft and the kitchen has everything you need. We all had a nice stay.

I would like to add that the price quoted for this property is only applicable for 2 people and any additional guests are an extra $15 per person per night. Unfortunately, we were not made aware of this until the day of our departure when we were informed by the property owner that we owed an additional $150 additional guest fee. We were told this was a VRBO error and it should have been charged when we booked the property. The owner has offered to refund half of the $150 additional guest fee. I just want to make sure future guests are aware of the pricing.

Owner's Response: I too would have felt disappointed getting a message from VRBO at the end of a stay with notice of additional fees owed. This was done at my prompting but the timing was indeed unfortunate and we’ll ensure it doesn’t happen again. We did offer the guest a partial refund as well as a free night stay in compensation. We must note however that our rate page clearly states there is a fee for additional guests, tho unlike most hosts, we do not charge a cleaning fee. We encourage guests to look at all fees when comparing properties as they vary greatly.

Peaceful Easy Feeling

  • 5 of 5

Getting away to Shady Grove farm was the epitome of a peaceful retreat. The hosts were lovely and accommodating, they welcomed myself and my two beloved dogs and even surprised me with a basket of farm fresh goodies the morning of my birthday. The whole experience was extremely special and utterly comfortable and relaxing. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this beautiful country cottage to anyone who is looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of every day life. The country air and hospitality was refreshing and rejuvenating!
