This charming log cabin is located in Valle Crucis (just a short distance from the Mast General Store in Valle Crucis) overlooking the Watauga River and a serene pasture with mountains beyond. It is the perfect get-away for all seasons! Blowing Rock, Boone, hiking trails, Grandfather Mountain, Tweetsie Railroad, shopping and ski resorts are only a short drive away. This spacious three bedroom/three bath cabin offers three levels with a game room on the lower level for children to enjoy watching television, playing foosball, darts or video games (Sony Playstation). Also on the lower level is a bedroom with a Queen size bed, a “bunk room” with a set of bunk beds, a full bath and laundry area with a washing machine and dryer. The main level offers the living room, dining area, fully equipped kitchen, one bedroom with a king bed and full bath. The master bedroom with a king bed and full bath is located on the upper level. The large partially-covered double-decks offer a peaceful setting while enjoying the river, the mountains and the pasture. The cabin is very accessible via a paved driveway.

Great cabin getaway

The place is exactly as advertised. It's a cabin with a big porch overlooking the river. We got snowed in so sadly couldn't try out the fishing.

It could have used some more cleaning supplies but Wendy was respectful and quick to respond. Great stay.

False Advertising and filthy house. Very disappointing Christmas vacation.

When we first arrived at this property there was a dead mouse in the middle of the floor of the "game room" on the "lower level." I place "lower level" in quotes because this area is simply a basement. The basement in this house was dark, damp, and smelled moldy. The bedroom on this level is dominated by the queen bed, and the "bunk room" is in quotes in the original listing because the owners placed bunk beds in a closet in an effort to cram more people into the small house. If you have allergies or sensitivities to mold, mildew, rodent droppings or urine, or small pets, DO NOT stay at this cabin. My son, who rarely has asthma, was wheezing by the end of the first day. I woke up the first morning with one eye swollen shut due to allergies. Both of us were on maximum doses of allergy meds and inhalers during our visit. The listing mentions playing darts in the "game room," but there was no dart board. The basement's full bath was so small that it is difficult to turn around in the shower. There was mold, mildew, and rust throughout the bathroom. The main level does offer a living room, dining area, and one bedroom with a king bed and full bath. It would be a stretch, however, to call the kitchen "fully stocked." The coffee maker was broken and the carafe didn't fit the machine. The pots and pans were filthy, and there were ants on the floor. The upper level does contain a master bedroom with a full bath. What the listing DOESN'T mention is that this master bedroom is A LOFT. As in NO DOOR. The listing says the cabin is very accessible via a paved driveway. Yes, the driveway is paved. However, it is so steep and twisted that cars have to make a 3-point turn half way up the driveway to make a turn. If you plan to visit in winter, there is no way (even with chains or snow tires) that a vehicle will make it up the drive. The hot tub was poorly maintained and its cover was saturated with water, mold, and mildew. There was a bad storm during our stay, and the flapping of a detached section of tin roof kept us up at night. The rental company should have paid US for our visit. We spent way too much of our vacation washing dusty, dirty sheets and comforters, vacuuming carpets, sweeping floors and mopping off the caked-on dust. Finally, there was no working internet or wifi. I plugged my computer directly into the modem and was not able to get online. The router was reset, but no luck there either. The only plus was the beautiful view.

Owner's Response: We take all feedback from our renters seriously. The cleanliness of our homes are most important to us. We would have immediately sent out a cleaning crew to correct any items that guests felt were not up to their standards. We regret that there was an issue with the wifi and though the holiday hampered correction in a timely manner we did have the provider send service to repair. We have gone over the description on the website to make sure the layout is more clear to future guests. The owners have also invested in a better dehumidifier to remedy the dampness in the lower level that is especially multiplied during the very rainy holiday we experienced here. This review is the first time we have heard anything about a mouse in the home or the issue with the coffee pot. Renters are provided with an emergency number and we would have gladly taken a new coffee pot or done any other services needed to keep the guests happy and comfortable. Again we do greatly appreciate the feedback from renters and we would like to assure any future guests that this home is a lovely home with many returning guests each year. We apologize for any inconveniences the guests experienced and did refund these guests a portion of their rent to hopefully compensate them for any issues.
