The town of Jim Thorpe is an awesome place to visit - it has it all! Beautiful Historic downtown surrounded by picturesque mountains with the fast moving Lehigh River cutting through at the edge of town. The downtown has several very nice restaurants, a couple of great pubs, about 40 shops of all kinds, plus historic and cultural attractions such as Asa Packer mansion, the old Mauch Chunk jailhouse, train rides through the Lehigh Gorge, the Opera House with live music every weekend, plus the historic Eckleys Miners' Village close by. There are hiking and biking trails nearby, a lake just a few miles above town, and great skiing at Blue Mountain, Big Boulder and Jack Frost.
This is a weekend getaway apartment located just one block from the Lehigh River and fifteen minute walk into historic downtown Jim Thorpe. Stephen was super accommodating and helpful! House was so cozy and had everything we needed- sheets, towels, and a lovely fireplace! Perfect for a small family of 3. Totally coming back again. And it's 12 miles to Blue Mtn.
Although we were initially surprised that we were not actually staying in the downtown area of Jim Thorpe, it was a blessing in disguise. Since we had some snow, we're certain the parking situation would have been a mess down town, and since this place was within walking distance from the grocery store, and also a very short (5 minute) drive to downtown Jim Thorpe, it was actually perfect for us. It was a cozy 1 bedroom place with good heating. (gas fireplace and units in each room kept us very warm. Kitchen had everything we needed as we ate breakfast and lunch in. Bed was comfortable. Pull-out was fine for the kids. We would recommend staying here if it's just two of you or a small family of 4 like ours. Steve was attentive to emails and phone calls about local services. Thanks for a nice stay!
The Jim Thorpe Weekender is the perfect size and location for a quick weekend getaway! Over the bridge from the downtown shopping area, it is in a great location to walk downtown when the weather is nice! The apartment is the perfect size for two people (but has a pull out sleeper sofa for more). Everything we needed was there - coffee pot, linens, towels, etc. The gas fireplace made the winter nights nice and toasty! Steve and his wife were very welcoming and great at communicating before and during our stay - answering questions and providing recommendations for places to eat, shop, and visit! We plan to stay here again the next time we are in the area! Thank you!
Cute and clean comfortable little guest house.well stocked kitchen and the owner is very accommodating and nice to work with!!!
The property is nicely furnished with comfortable accomodations for exploring the Jim Thorpe area. We recently spent 3 nights Oct. 28th thru 30th. The rental is above and across the river from the historic Jim Thorpe district. While the walk is not difficult, it is about a 15 minute journey across the new 209 bridge down into town ... a desirable option during the busy weekend daytime hours. After 5 pm, driving is preferred as parking becomes more available and is then free of charge as well. Renting from Steve was a great experience. We were lucky to meet him during our stay ... a great person, friendly, and very helpful. He provides an abundance of information about the property prior to arrival and suggests things to do in the area. Additionally, he has numerous brochures and booklets in the apartment for additional points of interest and local history that were very interesting. The property itself is nicely updated, clean, and comfortable. Linens and bath towels were obviously freshly laundered. The base board heaters and gas fireplace provide ample heat, but take just a little adjustment in each room to regulate the temperature level properly. The kitchen has adequate utensils and table service to allow enjoying some meals at the apartment, and the local market just down the hill provides a good variety of groceries to quickly stock the refrigerator. The historic district, Lehigh Gorge Railway, Glen Onoko State Park, Mauch Chunk Opera House, and Packard House are all worth exploring as well as the biking/hiking experiences. The Union Publick House bar just a block away is also a fine stop for a drink and daily meal specials. We would definitely recommend this rental!
