About the property

3 Bedrooms, 2.5 Baths, Sleeps 10

Bring up to 10 of your family and friends to Shells n Sunshine for a beach vacation that will become your standard of excellence from this day forward. You can even bring your dog, for a small fee. Shells n Sunshine is a three-bedroom, 2.5-bathroom, a freestanding stilted home that is right on one of the country’s most beautiful beaches. Imagine the fun of enjoying your morning coffee on your large covered porch overlooking the silky beach and the Gulf where dolphins are cavorting. Later, you can watch the magnificent Gulf sunset while you and your group enjoy cocktails as the palm trees sway and the waves roll in. It’s no wonder guests rave about Shells n Sunshine and return as often as they can.

Follow a private driveway off the busy Estero Blvd. to reach Shells n Sunshine. From the moment you enter the home, your eyes will be drawn to the huge glass doors that let your incredible Gulf view into the living room and dining room. You’ll also find the same wonderful views upstairs in the bedrooms.

Your Shells n Sunshine living room is outfitted with comfortable couches and loveseats all offering great views of the large TV with cable and DVD player. You’ll love the touches of seafaring décor and the air conditioning that keeps you cool no matter where you are in the spacious home. You also have free Wi-Fi Internet, which is a great way to check out area websites, make reservations, and send photos home to friends.

On the first floor of your three-story vacation home are the living room, kitchen, dining room, half bath, and laundry to keep your group in clean clothes throughout your stay. One of the living room couches is a sofa sleeper that can accommodate two guests.

Many guests find that eating in at Shells n Sunshine far outweighs the thought of dining out, even though there are many excellent restaurants all over Fort Myers Beach. The large, beautiful kitchen and the prospect of dining on the porch or in the dining room with your excellent view seem far more attractive. Your Shells n Sunshine

Kitchen is a pleasure to use with it’s Corian countertops, stainless steel appliances, and maple cabinets. The efficient design of this spacious kitchen makes it a pleasure to prepare your favorite recipes. You also have a private gas grill so you can cook up steaks or that big fish you caught on your fishing excursion.

On the second floor, you will find your master bedroom, a second bedroom, a full bath, and a balcony where you can sit and watch the tide roll in or the stars come out over the Gulf.

Your master bedroom is an exquisite retreat with a king-sized four-poster bed, large dresser, and a TV for late-night viewing. From your bed, you can look out on the Gulf and palm trees. What an excellent sight to wake up to each morning!

The full bathroom on this floor features a shower/tub combination and large vanity with dual sinks and an expansive mirror with good lighting. No matter how hard it is to get up each morning, this bathroom will brighten your day and get you off to a good start.

The second bedroom on this floor includes two comfortable twin beds. The large room is a great place for kids to spread out their toys and play uninterrupted. This room has its own TV, large dresser, and ceiling fan.

Your Shells n Sunshine third floor features a den, bathroom with shower/tub combination, and a third bedroom with twin beds. The den features a sofa sleeper for two more guests.

If you are looking for a Fort Myers Beach vacation destination for your large group, one that’s right on the beach as well as close to everything you want to do in and around the area, book your stay at Shells n Sunshine. It is the perfect beachfront vacation home.

Love it!

We had an amazing week. After reading the house reviews, we were afraid, but I'm glad we made the decision to go, beautiful stay, and the views are amazing. The house might need some repairs, but nothing serious, thank you

It's a good thing we stayed outside a lot

  • 2 of 5

The view is really what sold us on this house but upon entering the property we were disappointed. Instead of being excited we found ourselves walking around taking pictures of stained carpets and holes in the walls. Then the air conditioner didn't work upstairs and our 10 month old nephew had to sleep in 85 degree heat. The foundation itself was also something of a concern. Rotting wood outside made us nervous, especially with a house on stilts. There were light bulbs that didn't work, most of the blinds were missing or fell when we tried to close them, and fan blades and lights that were dangling from the fans themselves... and we didn't anticipate doing handyman work at a house we were paying to stay at. The house is extremely outdated and needs a lot of work. Had we known that was the condition of the house, especially since it was our honeymoon, we wouldn't have spent our money here.

Old and weathered house, rental company is terrible

  • 2 of 5

This house is managed by a rental company called Vacation Pros. They are very difficult to work with. If it is your first time to do VRBO, find a property that is managed by the will get better service. The property is weathered, which I knew from previous reviews, so the outdated furniture and peeling exterior paint didn't surprise me. Holes in the interior wall, cracked trim around the front door frame (that caught my arm going in), exposed rusty screws on the floor on the upper balcony, a broken dining chair, clocks and remote controls without batteries, rusty/falling off vent cover, broken/missing towel bars, mold around edges of tubs, and a rusty old gate that didn't latch at the top of the stairs to the deck was all over the top--some of these are health hazards, frankly. I contacted the company right away, they supposedly made notes of all of this. The worst part, however, was the fact that the house was not clean when we arrived. There was a pile of sand on the floor (floor was certainly not mopped) and the nasty warn down carpet had not been vacuumed; there was toothpaste in a bathroom sink (needed to be wiped out); the king bed in the master bedroom had queen sheets and mattress pad on it, which meant the sheets and pad were popping off of one corner and the mattress was completely exposed. I called for new sheets/mattress pad and they brought new sheets the next day (that FIT) but said a king sized mattress pad was not available. Ridiculous. I read reviews before booking and took a chance; I could handle a house that was outdated (have 5 kids, so it meant I didn't have to worry about them destroying anything!), but I was extremely disappointed that the house had dangerous things that I had to watch out for, like exposed rusty screws and broken trim around a door, plus not being properly cleaned when we had to pay a hefty cleaning fee. The Vacation Pros company did nothing for any of these concerns. BUT, I was happy to be right on the beach (hence the 2 stars as opposed to 5) and it was big enough for our family. There IS parking (2 spots) below the house, which is not clear in the description, and of course nobody at Vacation Pros could inform me of that before I booked . Having said all of this, I would not go back to Ft Myers Beach again. While the beach was lovely and the kids got great shells, the traffic was always horrible (thankfully we could walk to Publix) (granted, it was March, spring break season).

Beautiful beach but rental is in need of repairs

  • 2 of 5

Long story short is this is a nice sized rental on a georgeous portion of the beach. The porch is large and overlooks the gulf, which is priceless. The unit is in need of repairs. There were electrical outlets exposed, porch spindles broken/rotten and bathroom doors that did not close. Besides the normal little tiny bugs that your find at most Florida beach rentals, this unit was infested with cockroaches. With some repairs this would be a great rental.

This property has wonderful views, unfortunately it is in dire need of updating and cleaning

  • 2 of 5

This property has wonderful potential. Unfortunately we asked for maintenance four days later one showed and fixed the bathroom light (it had none working) and did not return to fix any other problem. The house is in need of a good cleaning (food in microwave, clothes in dresser etc.)we actually had to clean enough to get by. We have stayed in the area for many years and when on vacation this is not what makes memories. Hopefully this review will help the owners/manager bring this property to its potential.
