Overview

About the property

Apartment, 4 Bedrooms, 4.0 Bathrooms, Sleeps 12

Looking for something special for your group in Athens? The 4-bed 4-bath Acropolis Blue sleeps up to 13 and ticks all the right boxes.

Try 4 equally well-appointment en-suite bedrooms, a fully stocked modern kitchen, and a fabulous outdoor living space overlooking the Parthenon. This is what dream vacations are made of.

SPACIOUS INSIDE AND OUT

This bright and airy penthouse apartment is the perfect place for families or 4 couples traveling together. There are plenty of sleeping options in 4 light-filled bedrooms, contemporary furnishings throughout, and a city-view veranda complete with seating and BBQ grill – you may spend more time out here then inside!

With a fully wheelchair accessible living space across one level, this apartment is convenient for all ages and abilities – exactly what you want in a no-hassle vacation.

PRIVACY AND PAMPERING

Imagine a home where every bedroom is the master suite. All 4 bedrooms in Acropolis Blue have their own en-suite bath, so kids (or couples) don’t have to fight over the best room.

Each bedroom features high-end bedding and colorful art on the walls. Each bathroom boasts massage jets in the showers, organic Greek bath products, and fluffy cotton robes.

With its enviable perch atop the highest point on this downtown street, you’ll have peace and quiet, while being close to the action. In addition to your veranda, you'll have access to the rooftop terrace. With only a few offices sharing the building, the terrace – and its unobstructed views of the Acropolis – are all yours.

4 BEDROOMS / 4 BATHROOMS

The first bedroom has a Queen bed and one twin, and an American-style jetted tub and hydromassage shower combo. The second bedroom has a Queen, twin and walk-in hydro-massage shower.

The third bedroom is fully wheelchair accessible, with a Queen and a twin bed, plus double roll-in/walk-in massage shower (built to US ADA standards). Universal accessibility doesn’t have to mean skimping on the luxury.

The fourth bedroom (which can also be used as an office) features a double bed and walk-in massage shower. For added sleeping space, there’s a Queen-sized sofabed in the living room.

LIVELY LOCAL LIVING

If you can tear yourself away from your urban sanctuary, you’ll be rewarded with an authentic Athens neighborhood where locals live, eat, drink, and shop.

Join them in the 4 “plateias” (squares) down below for coffee and people-watching, then follow them to the two local farmers’ markets and learn try your hand at traditional Greek cooking.

Or simply leave it to the experts at one of the many restaurants and cafes on your doorstep. Stroll the tree-lined boulevard and share an ouzo with real Athenians while learning the fine art of relaxation.

AMERICAN CONVENIENCE

Outside it’s authentic Athens; inside it’s the comforts of home – taken up a notch.

Expect the sleep of your life on our imported Sealy Posturepedic mattresses and super-soft, high thread-count linens.

In the kitchen, choose from a fully stocked array of kitchenware and appliances to make cooking a pleasure. And don’t worry about clean-up; there's a full-sized dishwasher, washing machine, and dryer (rare in central Athens).

For further convenience, ask us about our expert concierge service, private chef, or daily maid options. Why not book a wine-tasting while basking in the view of the Parthenon on the roof terrace?

You’re a short walk or tram ride from the city’s historic center, museums and bustling city squares. With a stay at Acropolis Blue, you'll feel like a real local with the best views in town.

About Greek Vacation Rentals

Wow, who would have thought when I told my husband I wanted to buy a little pied-a-terre in his hometown, Athens, Greece, that I'd end up with the greatest accidental career of my life? Born and raised in Chicago, my love for travel was evident early on. Perhaps it was my arrival in the world, early one December morning, way quicker than my siblings had, in fact so quick we were still enroute to the hospital, and I still hold the title of youngest patient ever admitted to that north suburban hospital! (And thus, as a Sagittarius, characteristically smitten with wunderlust). I traveled my home country extensively with my family as a child, and was fortunate to have parents who encouraged us to study a second language young.

Why Greek Vacation Rentals chose Attica

While my language of choice as a child was French, my culture of choice was Greek - My earliest jobs were always in Chicago's Greek diners, my university days filled with hours playing backgammon in the cafeteria with my Greek friends, and my Eurail passes always started and ended my European backpacking holidays in Greece. So no one was surprised when I met Basil, a romantic writer but practicing translator and linguist, born and bred in Athens, but transplanted to Chicago, fell in love, and married him. While our life in Chicago was full, rehabbing a warehouse we purchased to house ourselves, our son and our growing Greek translation agency, I longed to plant some roots for our family in Basil's hometown. A small studio overlooking Mount Lykavittos was to be our Athens crash pad, but thanks to what seemed then an unfortunate turn of events, our home in Athens ended up being the beautiful Athens First Luxury Duplex. Larger than we had planned, offering it as a short term furnished rental seemed the logical way to afford it. Little did we realize that it would become so popular we'd be sleeping on friend's couches rather than in our own Athens home! Tired of being homeless in Athens, we purchased a second penthouse directly adjacent to the Athens First. In 2006 we completed the renovations of three additional short term furnished rentals.

What makes this apartment unique

As I said early on, this is the greatest accidental business one could imagine, and I love sharing my adopted city with visitors. Our guests repeatedly thank us for the little extras that often mean so much when you are planning what is often a once in a lifetime trip. As an ex-pat in Athens, I know the wonderful off the beaten path places that can make a holiday special, and I also know how to stay on the tourist path without feeling like you are being herded along with the crowds. Feel free to email me with your questions as you plan your trip to Athens - just one of the little extras guests of Greek Vacation Rentals will find when they share our homes in Athens.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We received a day walking tour with guide which added so much to our understanding of what we were seeing and the history Athens provides us! WE LOVE POPI! My daughters talked Greek Mythology, history, barbies, travel, and walked away with a wonderful new friend.

Carole was able to put together a wonderful day of Greek cooking in the Apartment with a wonderful pastry chef published in one of Greece's cooking magazines. We shopped in the local farmers market for veggies, bakery for bread, wine shop to top off our dinner, and the store across the street for some of Athens best cheeses. After all our shopping was done we began making the best meal I have ever tasted. Evi, our chef, was able to include our girls and my parents in the whole process. It was nice using the apartment for the class as the girls were able to participate or not at their own pace. My parents were able to relax and enjoyed the show. And finally we enjoyed a glass of wine together with our chef and then ate a magnificent meal we had learned to prepare.

Nick our driver also recommended by our hosts, took us on two day trips and was our airport connection. I cannot say enough about how he made sure our family was comfortable and even helped my parents with a little restaurant get away while we played on the beach.

When we returned to Ukraine my parents and kids could not stop talking about how wonderful vacation they had! I was a hero, and it was all due to my secret weapon Carole. While in Athens we spoke about her everyday and she was our 7th traveler. Even on the day we were cooking we were sitting at the computer exchanging emails and it felt as if she were cyber cooking with us. It was so much fun, relaxing, and all around the BEST vacation we as a family have taken because the stress of planning and knowing what to do wasn't there. Even our last minute 3 Island tour was a breeze because I didn't have to take care of any of the details.

You would be crazy not to stay here and be well cared for by Carole and her friends.

Notes:
Basil & Carole's American homes in Athens are often copied, but never duplicated. We're still real vacation rental owners - we stay in our home when we are in Athens - so it is truly still our own home away from home. This means we know the beds are great & the kitchen stocked with everything you need to really cook. But we also love to be tourists in our adopted city, too.

Large apartment in good area

  • 5 of 5

We spent 5 nights at this unit in June. The 6 of us had plenty of room.

The area right outside the unit looked a little unattractive although it is supposed to be in a safe & attractive part of Athens. Maybe after some construction gets done it will look better but didn't interfere with our use of the apartment.

Carole had a large info package (50+ pages) to help navigate the apartment & area. What we really appreciated is Carole's willingness to arrange transportation to/from the apartment & other leisure tours etc if wanted. We had her arrange a 'Foodie Tour' for us with the apartment manager, Nadia, conducting the tour. We all had a great time!

Owner's Response: Basil and I are so glad you enjoyed your stay in our Acropolis Blue. We are happy to report the cafe renovation is over - we're always happy to see cafes upgrade, especially when they add food service in our family friendly neighborhood. Glad you enjoyed your Taste of Greece Fabulous Foodie tour with Nadia - she's a fabulous chef and as your family discovered, really has some really great connections around the food/wine center of the city. We're glad we were able to help you and your family make some great memories in Greece!

Easter in Athens

  • 5 of 5

The property was as advertised and exceeded our expectations. We could not have asked for better hosts or better management in the handling of our vacation experience. Looking forward to staying in one of their other properties when we visit Chicago in the future.

Loved it

  • 5 of 5

Clean and uncluttered. Plenty of space. A much-appreciated basket of snacks were awaiting us upon arrival. The kitchen has all the appliances one could want, and plenty of nice dishes, pots and pans, etc. (It doesn't feel as if the owners were trying to outfit the apartment as minimally as possible.) Comfy beds. Lovely terrace. Nice to have the opportunity to do our laundry. Quiet as well, as most of the building houses offices, not apartments. The owners were great about responding to questions and providing us with plenty of info -- and all the guidebooks were a very thoughtful addition.

One caveat and a small suggestion. Suggestion: provide a simple translation or "graphic" for the washing machine and dryer. Our "welcoming person" DID explain it, but most of it was forgotten in the midst of arrival and a lot of additional information being offered. The German labelling did not give many hints about all the options on the dial!

The caveat is location. The apartment is in a "regular" neighborhood on a central street. So if you are wanting the convenience of being near the tourist-y neighborhoods and sites, this may not be your place. The neighborhood is fine -- perfectly safe -- and has a grocery store across the street (and also shoe stores and a bakery and banks and insurance companies and mysterious other things). But it is a schlep to get to the museums and archeological sites and more interesting areas (about 30 minute walk). Not close to Metro (which, by the way, is a great system). And we did not decipher the bus system, except for one ride. Plenty of taxis, though (but be prepared: while most Greek people seemed to speak/understand plenty of English, and even my minimal bad Greek, the taxi drivers almost universally did not). (Also, the photo o the night-lit Parthenon must have been taken through a telescope.) LOVED the rooftop terrace! Thank you for a wonderful trip!

Owner's Response: Jennifer Thanks for your comments and for the reminder about the washer/dryer translation (new machine, translation is on the to do list!) Though we are about 1 km / 6/10 mile (or 5 blocks in Chicago terms) from the Evangelismo metro, most guests who don't want to walk just cross the street and hop on one of the 3 trolleys that stop in front heading 4 or 5 stops to the Plaka and Syntagma Square. Basil and I are happy you enjoyed the neighborhood and hope that when you are ready to return to Greece we'll be able to help you plan another wonderful journey.

Beautiful apartment with modern touches

  • 5 of 5

The apartment is in walking distance to many of the main sites and is quiet and secure. It is beautifully decorated and easily housed 7 of us. Both Carole and Nadia were very helpful and flexible with us (icy roads delayed our arrival to Athens.) I would highly recommend this as a place to stay in Athens.

Clean, convenient and comfortable

  • 5 of 5

The apartment was accurately described in HomeAway. Carole, the owner, e-mailed us a very detailed document on all aspects of the apartment, sites to see, things to do, local restaurants and cafes and other things to help us quickly get oriented with the place and Athens. The apartment was immaculate, and the local caretaker, Nadia, was readily accessible and helpful. There was a nice rooftop deck with a 360 degree view of the city, including the Acropolis. The major sites were within walking distance or a short taxi ride away.

We really enjoyed our stay and recommend it to others..
