Overview

About the property

Charming stone cottage with vine covered terrace and garden

This charming cottage is situated at the top of the village Banastón Usana, 2kms from Aínsa, and a short stroll uphill from Casa Blas and the Annex. The name the Era refers to the flat area outside the cottage, where the farmers used to thresh the wheat. The property is simply and beautifully decorated throughout with wooden beams creating the major focal point which brings a friendly charm to this small abode.

On the lower level, you'll find a double bedroom with en suite and upstairs the living room with sofa bed and fully equipped kitchen. Its vine covered terrace is a real treat in summer months with a compact garden to compliment it. As ever this south facing house enjoys long periods of sunshine. The interior temperature is controlled with electrical heating for winter months and air conditioning for summer months.

The owner, who lives nearby is a fountain of information concerning the history of village and for those interested, there is always the possibility of visiting the former bakery, wine making room and alcove sleeping quarters. In the immediate area you can go for walks (the Villarcillo Chapel is a half hour walk from Banaston) or go horseriding in Banaston Barrio de la Iglesia or Church Quarter. A tour of the region by car is recommended as is a visit to the medieval village of Aínsa. Not to be missed is a visit to the Sierra de Guara Park, the Ordesa Park or the Posets-Maladeta Park, all of which offer and endless array of outdoor activities.

As charming as described!

  • 5 of 5

Usana is small, a population of less than 50, with sheep, barns, and gardens among the stone and slate residences. The cottage is well maintained and equipped as advertised. A couple of town dogs provide good company and a few nightly howls. There are no street names or house numbers, so I would advise finding the cottage before dark. Look for the chain across the driveway and the ERA sign. You can hike from your doorstep and Ainsa is 5 minutes away by car.

Map

Car: necessary

Banastón Usana is a 5 minute drive from Ainsa or a half hour walk along a waymarked path. Ainsa is the main village in the region of Sobrarbe, and there you will find all the sports adventure companies, restaurants, bars, banks, supermarkets, tourist office and the weekly outdoor fruit and veg market on Tuesday morning. Ainsa is located at the crossroads to three areas of outstanding nature beauty: the Ordesa National Park home to Monte Perdido the largest limestone mountain in Europe, the Posets-Maladeta Natural Park, entry via the magnificent Chistau valley and the Sierra de Guara Natural Park, world renown for its canyoning. All three parks offer an endless array of outdoor activites from one hour strolls along the valley floor to 3000m+ peaks like Posets and Perdido. Alpine wildflowers can be enjoyed all summer long, though May and June are truly spectacular months. There are good chances of spotting marmots, deer, 'sarrios' Pyrenean mountain goats, vultures, lammergeier...

Other Activities: Caving, canyoning, rafting, kayak, canoe.
