About Katie Howland 3

About the owners Doug, Bev, Miranda, and Katie Howland: Doug is a 35-year designer/builder who built this beautiful home. Bev, a jack-of-all-trades, opened the first health food store in Sedona (Beverly’s Market), opened a charter elementary school, ran a motel, and has managed their various properties over the years. Their youngest daughter Katie lives in Portland with her older sister Miranda. After a career in the arts, she now manages the family’s properties. Doug and Beverly now migrate between their properties in Arizona, Utah, and Hawaii. They like to hike, horseback ride, ski, practice yoga, whitewater raft, dance, and travel in their free time.

This is the owners' main home. They also have vacation rentals in the Escalante Canyons of Southern Utah and on the North Shore of Kauai.

Katie Howland 3 purchased this house in 1985

Why Katie Howland 3 chose Canyon Country & Northeast

Doug and Bev each fell in love with and moved to Sedona in the early '80s. Sedona is where they met, raised a family, and lived for over three decades.

What makes this house unique

There are many amazing natural wonders right out the front door. Head out for Sedona's legendary hiking or mountain biking, and return home to comfort. This handcrafted home will provide all the amenities you need.

Perfect Get Away!

  • 5 of 5

We loved your stunning , tranquil craftsman home!! 2 spacious bedrooms, with a shared bath(and another half bath nearby),2 comfy seating areas to relax in after a long day of hiking, a fully equipped kitchen and private deck/yard(no views of neighboring homes). Our teenage son enjoyed looking at your collection of musical instruments and handy reference books about local wildlife. Perfect location in an extremely quiet neighborhood away from the much more touristy upper Sedona area with easy access/short drives to gorgeous red rock formations, petroglyphs, hiking trails. A few minutes away is a grocery store(Webers IGA), a handful of great restaurants(Tara Thai, Taste of Marrakesh, Cucina Rustica) that didn't have long waits to be seated, and rustic roads to look for javelinas and other wildlife at night. It was a perfect getaway from our hectic lives. Highly recommended!!

Wonderful Sedona Rental

  • 5 of 5

We arrived a few days before Thanksgiving at this precious house in Oak Creek, Sedona. Far enough away from the hussle and tourist of Sedona to feel like you are truly in the countryside. Beautiful drive to all the great hikes that are close by. Our 2 girls, 10 and 11, enjoyed the yard and the DVD collection that was available for us. We played Monopoly on our last night, the house was warm and cozy but big enough for us to spread out in. A great new Grill outside was used to cook some lovely steaks from Webers Market, just a short drive away.

All in all, we had a wonderful Thanksgiving break in this treasure of a home.

A Poetic Sedona Dream

  • 5 of 5

This home came highly recommended by some great friends now living in Phoenix and originally from Oregon. I now understand why! It's a fusion of organic/eco friendly green thumbery (yes I made that word up) and a nature lover's poetic Zen dream. Cozy, full of character and history the home tells a story of well traveled curious minds that want to share their treasure with the world.

I'm so happy that Beverly and Doug have allowed renters in this gem of a home. It's truly one of a kind. I believe I fell a little in love with the array of plants, Juniper tree in the back (that I later found out was over 1000 years old), books, views, patio just below galaxies of shooting stars, and every detail or cooking tool you could imagine available at your very finger tips. Hubby and I enjoyed our wedding anniversary here on a 2 day city hustle and bustle get away from Phoenix.

We curled up by the fire place with a glass of wine, listened to music, star watched and listened intently for Javalinas we heard so much about; however effectively kept off the property by new wire fencing recently installed. It was both a relief and a disappointment not to encounter the wild snorting creatures :) I felt like I was staying at an Aunt's house, full of love, spirit, and a calm welcoming energy. I'm almost a little misty eyed writing this because I wish I was still there and not back at work but we all must make the doskieoskies so we can enjoy vacations such as my recent one to the Howland's rental in beautiful, tranquil Sedona.

While on our stay we shopped at Weber’s IGA grocery store just 9 minutes away, we sight saw and stopped at a few places to enjoy different views such as Hudson's and Mariposa restaurants, which I highly recommend. I believe anyone with kids or without would feel right at home in this remarkable property. I found myself exploring its treasures and dreaming of coming back. Thank you Beverly and Doug; for creating such as personal and welcoming retreat for your guests. Your energy has at least temporarily given me a sense of healing and I hope to continue that for as long as possible!

Namaste.

Paradise amongst the red rocks!

  • 5 of 5

This is an outstanding property located near the Village of Oak Creek. The photos shown do not do it justice – it is far more beautiful than shown. The house has a lot of windows – a luxury in our part of Canada – with beautiful views to the outside and the red rocks behind the house. There is also a lot of wood used in the house that, with the real plants, makes it instantly feel peaceful and relaxing. With the windows open, all you can hear is the sound of birds chirping. It is a house that is very calming and reviving but also very energizing. It is very secluded and private – a great retreat from the hustle of daily life and work. It also means that you can go just outside for amazing stargazing – no need for a tour! The house is spotlessly clean and very tastefully decorated giving it a very homey feel – not at all sterile like a hotel room.

The house is equipped with modern appliances – everything that you could ever need. The linens and towels are of good quality and everything is very clean. The sofas in the living area are extremely comfortable and great for easy bird watching! We were lucky to have a humming bird build her nest just outside one of the windows and we really enjoyed watching her.

The Village of Oak Creek is far nicer than the town of Sedona and the supermarket, Webers, has great meat and produce. Everything you need to cook up great meals at home using the clean and convenient gas BBQ. With sundown at 7:30pm we really enjoyed coming home to our “Jack’s Canyon” home and cooking simple but delicious meals. The large wooden table is great for beautiful meals and playing cards or other games. We really enjoyed our evenings after a long day of activity. And there’s a lot to do in Red Rock country! It is outstandingly beautiful. Don’t miss the Oak Creek Canyon drive to Flagstaff!

We were very fortunate to meet Beverly and Doug. They are incredibly nice people! We could have chatted all day. On the day of our departure my husband woke up with a bad migraine. I contacted Beverly and she was concerned and told us we could checkout at any time we wanted. That was incredibly generous!

Our only regret is that we only stayed a week – another week would have been wonderful. Thanks Beverly and Doug for sharing your beautiful property with us. We will be back!

A home of character in the heart of the red rocks!

  • 5 of 5

Conveniently located in the Village of Oak Creek , just minutes south of Sedona, this stylish home reflects the warmth and friendliness of the owners. The comfortable and artsy interior provides all the basic requirements of a home away from home. We especially enjoyed the abundance of reading material, the intriguing décor, and the sunroom, where a ponytail palm leans gently to the glass.

Outside is a small secluded yard with stone pathways. The deck sitting just outside the sunroom was an excellent place to enjoy a cup of coffee or glass of wine, gazing at the rock walls or brilliant stars. Mornings were filled with birdsong and the evenings with quiet or the soft rush of wind. The grill was clean and in excellent shape providing us several savory meals.

After a day of adventure we always looked forward to returning to this quiet abode. Thank Bev and Doug for sharing and the ease and convenience of the rental experience.
