About the property

Northern Cabin by Wilderness State Park

Northern cabin in the middle of the nowhere, but close to everything. This is right on the southern boundary of Wilderness State Park, offering miles of shoreline, hiking trails and thousands of acres of unspoiled wilderness to explore. It feels like you're in Alaska up there, but it's only about 12 miles to Mackinaw City or Cross Village for plenty of fun activities, dining options and supplies. It's also only 3 miles to Sturgeon Bay to enjoy miles of the best scenic dunes and sandy beaches on Lake Michigan.

The cabin is on a private 10 acre lot in the northern hardwoods, but it has all the modern amenities including satellite tv, a fully equipped kitchen, and full bathroom. There is a cozy wood burning stove inside, a charcoal grill, and a fire pit out back to enjoy an evening campfire under the stars. A new outdoor cedar sauna was recently installed right off of the back deck. It's a perfect place to relax and warm up on a cool night after a fun day in Northern MI.

Less than 5 miles away is McGulpin Point Lighthouse and Emmet Counties' Headlands Park- a property recent designated as one of only six International Dark Sky parks in the Nation -- making it a bastion for stargazers.

There are 2 bedrooms, one with a queen sized bed and one with two twin beds. There is also a couch and a recliner in the living room. The kitchen offers plenty of room for preparing meals and the dining area has seating for 5. Clean linens and towels are provided at check-in.

Near Mackinaw City, Mackinaw Island, Wilderness State Park, Sturgeon Bay, Cross Village, Lake Michigan, Harbor Springs, Petoskey.

Quiet, Private, Clean. Everything you could want!

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful place. Clean, cozy and quiet cabin tucked away in the woods. Can't wait to go back!

We saw bald eagles in the trees & a family of deer came right up to the back deck. At night the stars were larger than life up there. It was like we could reach out & touch them!

Thank you Mike for sharing your jewel with us.

Great cabin in the woods

  • 5 of 5

This was a perfect place for us. Close to the Stugeon Bay Beach where we spent a couple of warmer days. We also walked into the south end of Wilderness State Park from the cabin.

Wonderful stay for our daughter's 1st vacation

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I wanted to let you know that we had a wonderful time at the Carp Lake cabin. It was very relaxing and the neighbors were very nice.

The beer and chips were a very nice touch and it was a wonderful first vacation for our daughter. We took her to watch the Bliss Polo match one afternoon, she loved watching all of the beautiful horses. We also went to the Dark Sky park one night and saw the Northern lights! It was our first time seeing them like that.

We really enjoyed ourselves, and look forward to returning next year to explore more of the area. Thanks again!

Sort of a bargain, but not really

  • 3 of 5

Overall, the property was decent. The driveway getting in and out leaves a lot to be desired. Other than that, we had ant issues in the cabin and a lot of chipmunks outside and under the house. The place was clean and it was secluded as advertised. Overall, we liked the area and did enjoy staying here. Overall, using HomeAway is never cheaper or more convenient than staying in a hotel. By the time you pay the convenience fees and cleaning fee, this place worked out to $211.50 per night. In addition to that, this was supposed to be a father/son trip and unexpectedly my dad had emergency open heart surgery in August and I tried to cancel. I was only going to get $135 back and left to eat the rest. Although My wife 6 months pregnant, we basically decided to force the trip given the money we were going to be out anyhow. Overall, feeling forced and trapped, the experience left a bad taste and I probably won’t ever use HomeAway again. If you understand that going in, or purchase their ridiculous “travel insurance”, it’s fine; just make sure you weigh out the total cost. Specific to the cabin, I’d say that the value received didn’t match the cost paid.

Nice Secluded Cabin

  • 4 of 5

Nice little cabin tucked back in the woods. So relaxing. The cabin felt very homey, with Direct TV and a Sauna. We loved everything about it. Proximity to the beach and Mackinaw. We highly recommend staying here. The owner is wonderful. Can't wait to come back next year!

NICE

  • 3 of 5

The property is small but convenient and Mike the owner is very helpful. The neighbor is helpful and checked in with us within about 2 hours or so of our arrival. I don't announce to the world that the man with me is my husband because who should care so suddenly the neighbor assumed we were there to drink beer and go to the nearby strip joint and that was a bit much but I think he meant well and left some beers cooling in the fridge and that was nice. The back deck is small but the sauna (again very nice) takes up more than half of all the space on the back deck. It was nearly impossible for the both of us to sit back there and be comfortable. The fire pit and the yard area is nice and large. Lots of huge healthy mosquitoes. It gets cool in the evening and the window in the bathroom had a huge gap that was impossible to close it got cold and the bugs came in. There's basically no dish reception, but as other stated, we didn't go there to watch tv. The french doors to the back deck are so extremely hard to pull open that I was afraid it would break and crash because I had to haul it so hard to open it. The rest of the cabin is cozy, rooms upstairs, and pretty much clean.
