About Theresa Emmerling

18 years ago we bought our cottage on Mill Lake to have a quiet place to go and get away from the busy every day routines. We also wanted our children to have a place to take their friends and enjoy the great outdoors. Our time was split between relaxing and having fun. Our summer weekends were consumed with tubing, fishing, swimming, attending the Hot Air Balloon Festivals, Worlds Largest Breakfast Table along with lots of local attractions. Winter weekends were spent ice fishing, ice skating, sledding and indoor puzzles and games. Thru the years, our family has built many memories on this lake and in town at festivals. In 2012 we purchased and rebuilt the house next to ours. Now our friends and family can also enjoy the area but yet have a private place to stay.

Why Theresa Emmerling chose Battle Creek

Great location just off the main road with only a 15 minute drive into Battle Creek or Hastings for unlimited activities, shopping and festivals. It is also centrally located between Detroit and Chicago. The lake itself is large enough to have fun on but yet small enough to not be busy or overcrowded.

What makes this house unique

Being a small, private lake offers a quiet, relaxing atmosphere. Located on the east side of the lake offers longer evenings and views of the sunset. The dead end road keeps the traffic to a minimal. All sports lake offers endless water activities.

The Cottage was adorable, Great Lake views, comfortable beds, kitchen and bath. Fall leaf colors made the visit exceptional, plenty of outdoor seating. Loved it.

Fantastic Getaway

  • 5 of 5

My cousin and I wanted to get away from the city for a few days to relax and refocus from stress at home. The cottage has such a warm homey feel and the scenery surrounding it was breath taking. We had a wonderful time with our two dogs and none of us wanted to leave when the time came. I loved that there was no wifi or, in our case any phone reception. It really helped us disconnect from all social media and from the constant distractions of the city. We could not have asked for a better location. I hope to come back soon and I just can't stop talking about it to anyone that would listen. Theresa was so wonderful, she answered any questions I had before booking the dates to rent. I can't wait to come back for another visit.

Nothing to fault!

  • 5 of 5

My sister and I take a long weekend every fall to just get away from everything. No husbands, kids, grandkids, dogs - you get the picture. The weather wasn't the greatest so it kept us inside a good deal of the time we were here. That was not a bad thing! The purpose of our visit was to get away from everything. Since Verizon connection is extremely spotty inside the house and because there is no Wi-Fi it kept us from our electronic devices. Not Theresa and RIchard's fault - just a fact. That being said we read, played board and card games and had conversation with hot cups of coffee.

As others have stated, the cottage is CLEAN and very well appointed. You definitely don't have to carry your kitchen here to cook or bake!

Do NOT not rent this cottage due to the couch sleeper! I found it to the MOST comfortable I have ever slept on. This is firm, but with the memory foam just cushy enough to make you feel you are not sleeping on a board. No bar across the middle of your back. I slept better on this than I did the bed!

There is a general store not too far away that has the most excellent pizza. If you are looking for pastry goodies you are in luck since they make them there as well. Although I try not to eat them I was extremely tempted. Hand scooped ice cream is also on the menu and a place to sit and enjoy it. Quaint little store to be explored and enjoyed.

We have never gone to the same cottage twice since we have started this tradition, but we may have to rethink this next year.

Thank you, Theresa and Richard for your most excellent hospitality!

Already have plans to come back

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I had a fantastic time at Theresas house during the first week in October! The house was really cute, cozy and comfortable inside and out with a table and chairs on the front patio and a couple comfortable adirondack chairs right next to the lake. the house was also well appointed. I love how they have the house set up for their guests convienience comfort and relaxation. My favorite part was sitting by the lake while we drank our cofffe in the morning, and star watching in evening. It was so serene... we also enjoyed watching the swans on the lake. The weather was perfect while there, so we took our boat out on the lake and caught a ton of bluegill, perch and sunfish! Theresa the owner is friendly and easy to communicate with when we had questions. Wonderful place to stay.. We already have plans to return in the winter for ice fishing!
