We love skiing, hiking, biking and relaxing. You will have a great time staying in our home! There is wifi throughout. If you want Paul to talk about the museum collections, just let us know. During the winter, Paul can give you a free 2 hour tour of the mountain so you can decide which trails are best for you.

In the summer, if we do not have bookings by June 27, we need 4 days to set up a booking. So if you have interest in renting the house in the summer, please book by June 27; it is appreciated.

About Kathy Hooge 970 799 1818 cell
This is a true VRBO as we are the owners; when we rent our home, we stay in our caretaker unit that has its own entry at the rear. Most people never even know we are around, but it is good if you have questions or need assistance. We are from Ohio and both graduated from Ohio State University. Paul has a degree in art and archaeology and played varsity hockey for Ohio State and was a professor in Ohio. Kathy has a degree in education and co owned a garage door company in Ohio. In Crested Butte, Kathy worked at the bank for a while and then as office manager for many years for real estate company and 22 years for Flatiron Sports. We both skied and raced in the midwest, but always took vacations in the West so it was an easy choice to move here. If you have questions, we know the area and can help you with your skiing or hiking/biking questions. If you want a 'tour of the ski mountain' your 1st or 2nd day here, Paul will include that for a few hours for free so that you feel comfortable with the mountain. Paul and Kathy both Alpine and Nordic ski in winter and hike in summer. Because we have lived here for 25 years, we can offer ideas on Fishing, other summer activities as well as all winter activities.

Why Kathy Hooge 970 799 1818 cell chose Mount Crested Butte
You can rent the house as a 4bedrm /3 bath for as low as $399/night in January and November. There is a commercial roll a way bed and regular roll a way bed and a single blow up for a child. We were looking for ski-in or close property and found it for a very reasonable price in 1993. In 1992 when we first stopped in Crested Butte, we were in awe of the huge surrounding mountain peaks and open vistas. It did take us 5 years to build the house and we have upgraded and made improvements every year. Because we lived in the Midwest and always took ski vacations in Colorado or Utah, we feel we know what makes your vacation enjoyable. There are pillowtop beds with high quality linens on all beds. The diverse library suits everyone's taste in case there is a part of a day when you just want to relax and hang-out in the house. The kitchen is fully equipped with a large roaster, pots & pans of all types and 2 crockpots, all spices and natural gas stainless grill on deck. We have a regular Mr Coffee Machine and provide coffee. We have Nespresso coffee machine, but you need to bring your pods. (let me know ahead and I will set it out.)The house is close to everything (the slopes, the sledding hill, the biking and hiking trails) and it is 2.5 miles from town. The FREE SHUTTLE stops at our driveway in winter every 1/2 hour and it is a 4 minute walk in the summer to one of the bus stops. January, April, October and November are the most reasonable months to rent and Crested Butte has become a year round resort. We have 3 prices. $399. per night for April, October, November & January. $499. per night for Feb, May, June .. and $699. per night for March, July, August, Sept and December. All Prices are plus tax and the cleaning fee is listed. Longer stays can be discounted
What makes this House unique
THANKSGIVING and JANUARY are BARGAINS- Check out the prices. questions 9707991818. Our place is decorated in antique skis, snowshoes and ice skates with varied art collections related to winter. Although there are antiques around, everything is well fastened so you don't have to worry about children. We rent to families, but children must be 12 years old or older as we don't have gates or safety devices for young children. How often can you say you spent a "night in the museum"? Many of the bicycle trails are within 5 minutes of the house. The ski easement to the West Wall Quad lift is next door to our property. Some winters the ski easement doesn't work as there is not enough snow, but the free shuttle stops here and takes you to the Base Area. The free summer concerts on the mountain on Wednesdays are easy to walk to and we have blankets for you if you have flown in. We have a bathrobe in each bedroom, shampoo, body wash, bar soap, toothbrushes, razers in all bathrooms. Everythings is set up for you to arrive and have a wonderful vacation.

Very cool house full of history. Super clean, comfy and fun.
Kathy and Paul were excellent hosts. Super responsive, accommodating and welcoming. This a very cool house filled with incredible pieces of history (especially Colorado!). We had five couples and a single and were super comfortable. The next group trip we take to CB I plan on booking here again.
Epic Days at the Butte
This is a great place to stay if you are considering visiting Crested Butte. Kathy and her husband Paul are great hosts. We even arrived to a fresh baked loaf of banana bread which was the best. The place is full of ski artifacts and memorabila which adds to the character and uniqueness of the place. There is easy access to slopes and the home is much larger on the inside than it looks. We had seven guys on our trip and everyone fit comfortably. Thanks again Kathy and Paul for a great stay! Until next time...
A lodging experience like no other
Our ski group of 7 men have stayed in lots of rental houses over the years but I have to say this was the most unique and enjoyable. The pictures and descriptions do not lie, this house is filled with ski history and memorabilia. On top of that, you have comfortable, spacious bedrooms, a kitchen with every dish and utensil imaginable, ands lots of space to eat and just relax. Oh, and have I mentioned Paul and Kathy?! Kathy was very responsive during the booking process and beyond, even sending us a weather update the day of our arrival! And Paul gave us a personalized tour of the house and described the history of the extensive collection and it's significance. Paul even went out and skied with us the first morning to familiarize us with Crested Butte. We all agreed that this was a place like no other and the stay of a lifetime. Thanks Kathy and Paul!
Thanks so much.we are lucky to have had you as a group. We are always excited when guests enjoy the displays. Thanks for renting. See you again kathy and paul
Great Crested Butte experience!
We spent 5 nights there, and all agreed we should come back next year....and hopefully our wives will join us. Space enough for 5 couples, really comfortable and clean, and the museum artifacts on all the walls were really interesting-not your normal ski condo..... Great kitchen setup (felt like a big family kitchen....)and comfortable beds. The hosts were super friendly and helpful......great crested butte attitude! Hopefully we will be back!
Thanks for being such a wonderful group. You left our home very clean
Beautiful home at Mt Crested Butte!
I am always apprehensive when I book a home sight unseen. Well...the Hooge Haus is a gorgeous, comfortable, well-appointed, excellent location vacation home. It is full of antique skis, old ski photos and family pictures. We have returned several times and will continue to return since it feels like a home away from home. There is plenty of space for people to have their own space or all hang out in the large family room/kitchen. The kitchen was very well appointed with plenty of dishes, glasses, pots, pans, crockpots, gadgets, etc. Additionally, they leave some of the basic cooking items (oil, salt, pepper, sugar, flour, tea, coffee, etc) which is really helpful when you are on vacation. The bedrooms are very comfortable and the bathrooms are all updated...with great showers! The home is very warm. One year we rented the house and the two apartments with 15 of us...we had the best time! The ski bus stops at the front door and runs every half hour, so the kids can come and go as they please. It is also possible to ski to the West Wall and walk a short way back to the house. Paul and Kathy are wonderful hosts and were extremely helpful when the battery on our car died the day we were leaving. Book early because it is a popular vacation home both winter and summer! It isn't just a rental....it is a home and it is lovely!
great relaxing stay and fantstic mountain views!
We rented the house at 18 Castle Rd Mt Crested Butte because it would be close to wedding park on the mountain and the big hotels where the rest of the guests would be staying. We wanted someplace that would have everything we needed for our wedding immediate family. The house was clean and had everything we needed, incredibly comfortable beds, toys and books for the 2 children, huge kitchen area with every amenity you could imagine (3 different coffee pots), spices and plenty of seating. The deck had a screened gazebo which was perfect for small groups during the day to gather and flower boxes and hanging baskets which were perfect for backdrop of pictures..we could watch the sun come up from east decks and watch the beautiful sunsets from the west decks.
There were 12 of us and plenty of room and private spaces. We will definitely return to this house in the future
This was a great group . They were respectful and clean . Thanks so much for renting from us. We enjoy sharing our home and are glad so many people enjoy coming to crested butte as it is a beautiful place. kathy
Crested Butte is the Wildflower capital of Colorado and home to Crested Butte Mountain Resort. From our ski history haus you can walk 5 minutes up the ski easement to the quad lift. In the summer you can ride the lifts with your bike. You can start from Castle Road and within minutes be on one of the major biking trails. This is world renown for fly fishing and many of our visitors come mainly for the fly fishing in summer. Crested Butte area also has big game hunting. Boating on the Blue Mesa Reservoir is only about 50 minutes away. Our prices are based upon stays of 2 to 4 nights, so longer stays are less (ask). You can rent our home as a 5 bedrm/4 bath (3bedrooms are en suite) Plus LOFT with 2 beds and the other 2 bedrooms share a bath ( sleeps 12). or you can deduct the lockoff unit and have 4/3 + loft and sleep 10. The ski easement is next door to the West Wall Quad Lift and the hiking and biking trails can be walked to. The free bus shuttle stops at the drive in winter and is a 4 minute walk in summer.
