This 1 bedroom, with loft, carriage house sleeps up to 6 people. It is on the sandy shores of Lake Superior (approximately 250 ft. from the water), which has incredible sunsets. There is air conditioning and wi-fi for your pleasure during your stay at this quant carriage house. There is also a grill and fire pit to use when the beach is too windy for fires. This is a very family friendly place to stay, as well as most dogs are welcome with permission also a non refundable $50 fee per dog (no more than two dogs at a time.) We are located just 2 miles west of Lakenanland which is a sculpture park, where in the winter you can park and ride your snowmobiles on the main trial network in the U.P. . We are located 7 miles east of Harvey and 29 miles west of munising. The U.P. is known for snowmobile and Skiing fun! There are miles upon miles of mountain biking and hiking trails just outside this wonderful spot!!
I was born and raised in Marquette, MI here on this property. I own a hair salon in downtown Marquette across the street from the wonderful Marquette Food Co-op. I enjoy yoga, singing in my band, and anything that has to do with nature. I am the care taker of my family home.
It is at this home and property where my late mother and father started a bed and breakfast when I was growing up. I "learned the ropes" from my mom and plan to take the legacy on as long as I can. Our paradise is too magical not to share with the world.
Robin Smith purchased this cottage in 1924
On Lake Superior, on the snowmobile trail, back country cross country skiing, fall colors, peaceful get-a-way.
Quaint, perfect getaway, miles of sandy beach to walk and enjoy. A wonderful place to base your U.P. adventure.
This property is in a very pretty and relaxing setting, just a short walk from the beach. The views and sounds by day and night are calming and we truly appreciated being able to bring our dogs (there is a pet cleaning fee). Robin and Joshua are friendly and responsive and go out of their way to make sure guests have what they need. But you may want to bring some extra bottled water if you drink a lot of water, as what you get from the sink is well water and salty. They have a water cooler in the house for use and we went through a couple jugs pretty quickly since we were hiking every day.
We stayed here for our anniversary and also while visiting our daughter at NMU. If you are going into Marquette, it's a lot of driving back and forth, and about a 20 minute drive to get into town and the shops, restaurants, etc. We loved Sweet Water Cafe for breakfast and the Steinhaus and Lagniappe were good for dinner. Munising is not too far the opposite direction if you are looking to try restaurants and sites away from Marquette.
Definitely make time to walk down the beach and see the eagle's nest, drive to Pictured Rock's Lake shore and hike Hogback Mountain and Dead River Falls. Especially in the Fall.
We enjoyed sitting on the deck at night and viewing the stars and also the fire pit outside where there was plenty of wood. We also appreciated Robin's attention to details on things like coffee filters, hangers, super soft-clean sheets, a lot of extra pillows and towels in the house. Thanks for a very nice and relaxing week in a lovely home-away-from-home!
The cottage is great, communication was great.
We enjoyed our stay at paradise loft. It was clean and Robin was very accommodating! You couldn't get any closer to the beach and it was beautiful!

Our family stayed here for a week with 2 adults and 4 kids. The one bedroom was perfect for the adults, while the loft had enough room for three teenagers and another teenager on the couch on the main floor. The home was very clean, even to my standards. The shower handle is going to be replaced as soon as they get a break from renters. The bed the adults slept in was comfortable and all linens were provided. If you needed anything at all, you just had to ask. For people like us who are not used to living with sand, I highly suggest that you use the foot tub provided and leave your shoes outside if you can. There's a short walk to the beach, about 1-2 minutes which gives you a private spectacular view of Lake Superior. We brought out own skim boards, boogie boards, kayaks and paddle boards. The water was calm enough to handle everything we brought. If you want on the beach heading east there's a large bald eagles nest. You can see the eagles flying or perched in trees. We suggest gong through the Sculpture Park a mile down the road to the east, as well as Sugar Loaf Mountain for a nice hike as well as cliff jumping off Black Rocks. The closest laundry facility is King Koin Laundry which I went to twice. We made most of our meals at the home using the propane grill provided. Robin and Josh we wonderful. They helped us build bonfires and even hung out with us on the beach where we sand and played guitar. Highly recommend staying here and will be going back again.
We had a wonderful stay at the Carriage House in August 2016! The Carriage House was just right for our family of four--the boys loved the sleeping loft and my husband and I were very comfortable on the queen bed. Robyn provides everything for your comfort--even down to paper towels and Netflix! The beach is just behind their house--and what a beach it is. Gorgeous views, soft sand, not crowded at all. There is an eagle nest a short walk down the beach which was amazing. Robyn and Josh were very helpful when needed--we messed up the tv and she came right over and fixed it. Location was great--about 10 minutes from Marquette, where we highly recommend Presque Isle Park, Sol Azetca Mexican Restaurant and Laginappe Creole Restaurant. You have to see Lakenenland that is just down the road from the cottage--a drive through collection of all these whimsical metal sculptures--free and definitely worth a drive through. Munising is about 30 minutes to the east and was also nice (although Marquette has better restaurants). We will definitely go back when we are in the area again. Thank you so much for a wonderful vacation!
We enjoyed our time at this quiet get-away, that's conveniently close to Marquette! The beach was beautiful, the house was extremely clean and well kept.
We knew ahead of time the house was small and planned for cozzy accommodations; however the bathroom is very small if you gave a family of big boys.
Robin and Josh are very friendly and helpful if you need suggestions on where to visit or fun things to do. I would recommend this vacation house to family and friends.
