About the property

3 Bedrooms, 2.5 Baths, Sleeps 8

Windcliff is a prestigious community of mountain homes nestled on the slopes of Ram’s Horn Mountain. “The Kinney” is a masterful Windcliff duplex condo perfectly situated for unobstructed views west to the Rocky Mountains in Rocky Mountain National Park.

A high, beamed ceiling crowns the living room at Kinney. Aspen wood accents compliment the great recliners and sofa that are focused on the view. A spectacular wall of mountain stone blends with the natural landscape outside and harbors the wood burning fireplace. The hearth is large enough to host a family reunion! An HDTV home theater is nestled nearby. There is a table perfect for games --- and both games and books abound. The south wall radiates a magnificent piece of art --- a bald eagle with a fresh catch “in hand” preparing to land on the edge of its lofty aerie to the welcoming cheers and chirps of three fledgling eaglets. Kinney’s kitchen features glass-top cooking and all of the tools and utensils necessary to make cooking fun. A long bar facilitates breakfast service --- or that special hour when refreshments beckon. A dining room banquet table beneath an antler chandelier handily welcomes eight.

The ensuite master bedroom features a perfect view of the Mummy Range of mountains ascending to 13,560 feet, classic Bierstadt prints of the Rocky Mountains, and a soaking tub. Downstairs is another king suite replete with mountain vistas that opens to the hot tub patio with its dramatic views up the face of Ram’s Horn Mountain. A bunk room enhances the special “family” character of Kinney. A small room across the hall is packed with books and a veritable store of children’s delights.

Kinney affords you the perfect sampling of mountain panoramas to heighten your anticipation of a courtship with Rocky Mountain National Park and the perfect location from which to launch. “Rocky,” as it is affectionately known to local residents, began its second century as one of America’s premier National Parks on September 11, 2015. Its peaks tower in the near distance with a magnetic presence that draws visitors to their embrace to explore the wondrous attractions that abound. High up in the mountains snowfields beget rivulets and burgeoning streams that flow recklessly to plummet in cascading leaps and bounds towards the valleys below. High alpine lakes bask beneath the Colorado sun and mirror the parade of clouds overhead. Deep canyons recall the eons of gouging ice that carved them before receding to expose their handiwork. And, laced across the face of the Park are 359 miles of designated trails etched by human feet.

Windcliff’s common boundary with Rocky Mountain National Park is just a stone’s throw from Kinney. And, less than 200 yards from Kinney’s front door a meandering National Park trail beckons to you. Within the first quarter of a mile you will reach the site of Anna Wolfram’s famous turn-of-the-century (20th) “Wigwam Tea House.” The trail that conveys you there once reached from the flatter lands where Denver lies up to the Estes Valley. It was first inscribed by the moccasin-clad feet of the Arapaho peoples in their annual pilgrimages from the lowlands up through the Tahosa Valley and down the water vale of Aspen Brook to their lofty summer hunting grounds. In time the heavier boots of trappers, settlers, tinkers, and tourists passed this way. Anna wisely set up shop to cater to them all. She proffered the essential needs of weary travelers and a stately array of Indian artifacts gleaned from her friendship with the Arapaho.

A peek inside the Guest Book at Kinney offers a glimpse of visitors’ delight with this Windcliff mountain residence:

• “Loved having a beautiful, spacious home to come back to after a long day of hiking.”

• “The deck is perfect for coffee and breakfast while enjoying the view.”

• “You can go right into the Park from here! The house is very nice and the views are simply amazing. There is a grill on the deck and a wonderful Jacuzzi to soak in. I give it a 10!”

• “If you haven’t been to this lovely and secluded neighborhood, you can’t imagine the views.”

• “The view out the front window is awesome. Family dinners were enjoyed around the large dining room table. A great house indoors and out for a family vacation.”

• “An extremely comfortable, beautiful, and relaxing place to enjoy a vacation. We will return to this home again.”

Although Estes Park [Rocky Mountain National Park’s gateway community] is only 15 minutes distant by car, you will always feel securely tucked away at “Kinney” --- separated from the “hustle and bustle” of people and their traffic. The Windcliff enclave embracing the “Kinney” residence is a private residential community comprising 260 acres on the sunny western slopes of Ram’s Horn Mountain. It is served by a single entrance to private roads with no through streets or heavy traffic. It is truly a world apart!

Good house, great views

  • 4 of 5

Great house, cool location, not far from downtown and Rocky Mt. National Park. Great views from living room saw lots of wildlife near house. Only gave it four stars because it's a little dated but overall we enjoyed our stay.
