Overview

About the property

3 Bedrooms, 3.5 Baths, Sleeps 8

“Windcliff Estates” is a name that resonates with all who appreciate mountain homes and mountain-view real estate. Garlands’ Alpine Lodge is a premier residence at Windcliff. It is a duplex town house of extraordinary character. Designed by the noted mountain architect Ron Ruegge and built by Windcliff’s own Don Darling in 2009, Garlands’ Alpine Lodge graces a pristine site near the south end of Windcliff. The Lodge stands less than 300 feet from a common boundary with Roosevelt National Forest, and a similar distance from the boundary of Rocky Mountain National Park that adjoins Windcliff. And, the view to the west from Garlands’ Alpine Lodge encompasses the towering grandeur of the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains in Rocky Mountain National Park within what seems to be arm’s reach!

Step inside this mountain masterpiece to be greeted by a symphony of etched glass, slate, rock, tile, wood, and modern hues --- all in perfect harmony. The living area boasts west windows focused directly on the mountains. Towering walls resonate with art indicative of your surroundings. A limited-edition print by Sherry Steele portrays a magnificent male mule deer in a snowstorm. Across the room is an oil on canvas bringing an aspen grove to life. Heavy bronze castings of the wildlife indigenous to these parts frequent the house and give you a hint of what to expect out on the trails that await you at Windcliff and in the National Park. A half-scale statue of St. Francis and his animal sidekicks speak volumes of the love of the Garland family for the animals that co-habitate with their lodge in its forest surroundings. And, please take note --- at Garlands’ Alpine Lodge bears roam throughout the house. [They are neither alive nor stuffed specimens of these magnificent creatures. But, they are so life-size and realistic that you will wonder about their feeding schedule.] Over-sized couches await your moments of shared “debriefing” after every outing. A pair of hob-nail recliners is focused directly at the mountains. A fireplace stands at the ready. Its massive mantel is a giant beam of time-weathered wood salvaged from some earlier story of these mountains. The west deck is outfitted with a gas grill and tables and seating for all. The Lodge’s kitchen is the kitchen of your dreams. Bosch appliances and every essential tool of the culinary trade are at your disposal for whatever your appetite and imagination can envision and prepare. An “onlooker’s” bar is supplied with swiveling bar stools so comfortable that you could spend eternity in them without complaining. Set the dining room table with the luminous white porcelain dinner ware at hand, tune the Bose Wave music system to “background level,” and welcome the stunning view of the Continental Divide as your guest at every meal. And, by the way, the powder room near the front entrance is worthy of a picture in any architectural review.

The master bedroom is designed on a massive scale. The space is massive. The over-sized king bed is massive. The walk-in closet is big enough to live in. And, the view from the west windows is the most-massive of all. The raised, see-through fireplace is positioned for enjoyment whether you are abed or adrift in the Jacuzzi bath. Artistic tile work creating a Rocky Mountain motif surrounds the tub and the shower such that the tub appears to be a “lake” nestled amidst the mountains.

Downstairs at Garlands’ Alpine Lodge is a “family room” that does honor to the concept. It features seating and reclining for a wonderful cadre of family and friends, a large-screen HDTV home theater, a library, a curio gallery, a wet bar complete with wine cooler, games, and a full-sized pool table. And, just outside on the lower deck resides a hot tub focused on the views all around. An ensuite queen bedroom welcomes a woodland view at morning’s first light. Yet another bedroom with over-sized twins and a full bath round out the sleeping accommodations.

Take a dramatically-designed mountain residence, imbue it with love and with every refined element --- and you have Garlands’ Alpine Lodge.

Some serious issues with communication and billing

  • 1 of 5

We paid for six nights and seven days at Garland's Alpine Lodge. The house was tidy, clean and everything worked like a charm. We only had two issues with our stay. On the fourth day we received a call form the office wondering when we would be checking out as it was 10:02 and check out is at 10:00. I was left TOTALLY SPEACHLESS!!!! We had already paid for 6 nights stay. After quite a discussion, the office staff apologized for their error. The other issue did not happen until after we left. I received a phone call from our bank stating that there were possible fraudulent charges trying to be applied to my account. Windcliff Estates was trying to bill me again for the rental and deposit (This was paid in full when we booked through VRBO). Luckily my bank was on their toes and did their job by not allowing the charges to go through before contacting me. I never received any phone calls or emails from Windcliff Estate stating that there were any billing issues or that anything had not already been paid in advance. I already knew everything had been paid in advance because that is simply how VRBO works. I would have given more than a one star review but credit card fraud and fraudulent billing is something I take very seriously. Don't get me wrong, the staff was super nice. However, there needs to be some serious improvement when it comes to communication with guests about their stay and billing issues as well. It will be interesting to see if we even receive our deposit. I seriously doubt it from our experience with their internal and billing issues. Great house, there just needs to be better customer service from their rental management company.

Owner's Response: And another 5-star property gets a 1-star review based solely on misinformation and a flawed review process. This is unfortunate and this home does NOT deserve this rating. This was a good guest who spoke highly of the house (which is quite deserving of and historically receives 5-star reviews) and even our staff. Our staff made one mistake by calling to confirm checkout at 11:02a (not 10:02a) on the wrong day. Mea culpa. This was an honest and avoidable mistake we apologized for. The attempt to charge the guest after departure was for evidence of smoking at the home found after the guest's checkout. Smoking is not permitted anywhere in (or even outside of) any home in Windcliff's program. The no-smoking rule (and fine for violation) is clearly stated to all guests prior to accepting a booking. It is also clearly stated in the rental agreement the guest must sign, in the welcome packet and is explained to all guests during the check-in process. Windcliff is now unable to process the stated fine due to the guest 'fraud' blocking the transaction. The guest will not permit the fine but has now assigned the home with an undeserved 1-star review that will last on VRBO "forever." Reviews never tell then whole story. Tragically unfortunate all around.

Stunning and great family fun

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Garlands for a family weekend with our 4 twenty-somethings kids. The house is amazing and the views breathtaking - such luxury for a really reasonable price for 6 people.

Property management was very accurate and efficient - and the properties all looked spectacular!

I don't think you can go wrong with windcliff no matter the house but this one suited is to a T weLl beyond our expectations with a great room with a pool table AND candyland!

Perfect Vacation Spot!

  • 5 of 5

I have used VRBO to rent houses in the Estes Park area for many years and Garlands is by far the best property I have ever rented in Estes. The house is exactly as portrayed in the pictures...actually better! The view of the Rocky Mountain National Park from the living room and porch is breathtaking...Picture Perfect. The Windcliff Management company that handles all the reservation are very pleasant to deal with and have there reservation process streamlined. It take about 8 minutes to reach Hwy 66 from the house and then a short 5 minute ride into town. The house is well appointed with top end appliances and furniture. Downstairs entertainment room and nice tv and slate pool table. We will be visiting Garlands again on our next visit. Thanks for having your house up for rentals....
