This Classic Cracker house - Wabi Sabi Cottage - was built in 1919 and completely and lovingly restored in 2004. I changed the exterior as little as possible but once you step inside no detail has been overlooked. I added central air conditioning, vintage reproduction lighting, outfitted the kitchen and bath with modern conveniences - all while keeping the cottage charm.
It is so special that Budget Travel magazine featured Wabi Sabi Cottage in their September 2011 issue of Top 10 Coolest towns in America and Cedar Key was number 8.
Vintage photos and a mix of antiques with new furnishings and some modern art complete the décor. There is off-street parking with room for a boat trailer and a fenced yard for your pooch to run around. It is the perfect spot for a romantic getaway or maybe just a solo hideaway? Oh heck, you can bring the kids, too. If you need to work, there is a desk area and Wi-Fi Internet service. I hope you will love the quiet, privacy, and charm as much as I, my friends and family do.
Historic Cedar Key is a nature lover's and artist's dream. It is one of the few remaining fishing villages (think mullet, redfish, grouper and trout) left in Florida. Oysters, crabs, stone crabs and farm-raised clams still being harvested the old-fashioned way - by hand.
We have several wonderful restaurants, fun shops, art galleries, (some) night life, two museums, a fishing pier, city park with swim beach and a library plus more.
Nearby are outer islands with historic ruins to explore, as well as Manatee Springs and the Lower Suwanee Wildlife Refuge. Within an hour's drive you can go to Gainesville, Micanopy and more.
We have two festivals a year - the Art's Festival in the Spring and the Seafood Festival in the Fall. You can also rent kayaks, paddle boards, canoes, boats, fishing guides, bikes or golf carts to get around but do not forget to bring a camera, that book you have been meaning to read and your fishing pole. You are in for a wonderful and relaxing time.
Only one hour from Gainesville, two hours from Tampa, and three from Orlando, Jacksonville, or Tallahassee airports.

About Ada L.
My background is in design and I love the historic and natural beauty of Cedar Key and really appreciate the visitors who feel the same way. Yep, that's me in the photo plus Frenchie, the Wonder Dog.
Ada L. purchased this Cottage in 2003
Why Ada L. chose Cedar Key
Wabi Sabi because it was on 2 lots and there were people who wanted to buy it, tear it down and build a couple stilt houses. The decision to purchase was easy, as well as to restore and share it with guests who come to Cedar Key and want to stay in a one-of-a-kind historic property. The cottage was one of several that were built for the fiber factory workers and there is still a remnant of another building's foundation out in the yard.
What makes this Cottage unique
When I travel, I prefer to stay in historic or funky and unique homes. When I out-fitted Wabi Sabi, I decided that if it was something I would want or need on vacation, it was going in. I think that my guests appreciate the attention to detail and extra amenities. Really, just about all you need to bring is your clothes and toiletry bag!

What an adorable and cozy little cottage!
This was a great place to kick back and relax! Definitely want to go back sometime in the near future!
Beautiful place to sit on the porch and relax!
Nice, quiet neighborhood, cozy inside and out. Would give 5 stars but the bed desperately needs a new mattress, and more bath towels and washcloths are needed for a week stay. All in all, we enjoyed the cottage!
Thanks for the comment Donna. I will pass it on to the new owners.
Loved the uniqueness of the house, location was great!
Wabi Sabi had everything we needed and was an easy walk to the gulf. Nice fenced yard our little dog enjoyed and a great porch to relax on. We didn't cook anything except breakfast but the kitchen had everything you'd need. Lovely, friendly area.
Perfect step back to a peaceful time❤️
We had the best best vacation ever at the Wabi Sabi Cottage in Cedar Key. Loved everything about the cottage and the quaint little town. Please don’t hesitate to book this restful retreat for your next get a way. We will return .....
We enjoyed it immensely.
With the exception of the very uncomfortable sleep sofa (our third person slept on the floor), Wabi Sabi was as advertised: clean, comfortable and close to all the action
Amazing little cottage
Looks old and rustic from the outside, cozy and country on the inside, the spiral staircase to the bed is so fun and you get the feel of sleeping in the attic or in a treehouse which was so cool, not to mention the bed was super comfy! We loved this place
