The Cabin at West Cott allows guests to enjoy the lake and experience wilderness, while also exploring their energy use and how they impact the planet we live on.
The cabin is not connected to any electrical supply company. It is a solar powered home, that can sufficiently provide electricity for the energy aware family. There are two diesel generators that provide backup, but ideally should rarely come on. How much they come on is determined by the guests energy consciousness.
The Cabin at West Cott is on a quiet lake with good fishing and full access to the Winnipeg River. Whether it's a leisurely trip by water to Minaki, or kayaking through wild rice filled bays, adventure awaits. Wildlife can be seen from the dining table or dock. Eagles are a regular sight, travelling to and from their nests, feeding and training their young. Fall hunting and winter snowmobile activities make for 12 months of fun.
There are 880 square feet of living space, including a 220 square foot sunroom. The cabin is a two minute treed walk to the water.
The cabin contains two private bedrooms and sleeps 6 comfortably. Two cots are available if required. There is a cozy propane fireplace for chilly evenings or rainy days.
The cabin shares a dock with the main house.

The cabin was still under construction when we arrived but was very well laid out and had everything we required and more. I was there with my 2 adult sons, nephew and another friend. We stayed August long weekend and had a great time. The dock was new and we spent a fair bit of time in the water which was quite warm. Susan had kayak's available for our use which the boys used for exploring the lake. If we return this way again we will definitely try to book here again. Thanks Susan for a great quiet getaway location.
My extended family and I thoroughly enjoyed the West Cott house. Many hours were spent close to home - fishing, paddling and watching for wildlife. Located about 15 minutes outside of Kenora we were also able to take advantage of the tourist attractions in town after which we were able to retreat back to the West Cott and it's peaceful surroundings. The house has been well cared for and had ample space for all of us. Susan was very welcoming and provided most amenities. Great memories were made - we had a terrific time. Thank you Susan - hope we can return.
This cabin was new and under construction when we were there. Although it was under construction, it didn't seem like it as there was little left to be done. We had pretty well everything we needed. We were able to offer our suggestions for our next visit and were very thankful that the owner Susan was happy to implement them. I highly recommend this cabin. Susan goes the extra mile for her guests and is more than happy to please. Thank you Susan and we will be back.
