Overview

About the property

2 Bedrooms, 2 Bathroom, Sleeps 6 comfortably ($25 per day per guest for >6)

The Cabin at West Cott allows guests to enjoy the lake and experience wilderness, while also exploring their energy use and how they impact the planet we live on.

The cabin is not connected to any electrical supply company. It is a solar powered home, that can sufficiently provide electricity for the energy aware family. There are two diesel generators that provide backup, but ideally should rarely come on. How much they come on is determined by the guests energy consciousness.

The Cabin at West Cott is on a quiet lake with good fishing and full access to the Winnipeg River. Whether it's a leisurely trip by water to Minaki, or kayaking through wild rice filled bays, adventure awaits. Wildlife can be seen from the dining table or dock. Eagles are a regular sight, travelling to and from their nests, feeding and training their young. Fall hunting and winter snowmobile activities make for 12 months of fun.

There are 880 square feet of living space, including a 220 square foot sunroom. The cabin is a two minute treed walk to the water. Due to fluctuating levels of the Winnipeg River system, at times the ramp to the floating dock can be steep. This can be difficult for people with mobility issues.

The cabin contains two private bedrooms and sleeps 6 comfortably. Two cots are available if required. There is a cozy propane fireplace for chilly evenings or rainy days.

The cabin shares a dock with the main house.

The property is not suitable for people with mobility problems.

- There is no loud music or parties allowed at anytime. Quiet time is enforced after 10:00pm

- Any evidence of smoking indoors will result in a minimum cleaning charge of $200.00.

- There are absolutely no pets allowed. Any evidence of pets will result in a minimum cleaning charge of $200.00

- No cleaning fish on the deck or dock. All fish remains must be taken far from the property, as they attract bears. If there is evidence of fish cleaning, there is a minimum sanitation charge of $200.00

If payment for extra guests is not automatically charged to your booking, the amount of $25 per day per guest >6 is due upon arrival.

I would recommend staying at this cabin!

  • 4 of 5

We had a fantastic time!! Susan, the host - couldn't have asked for better!!

She was very accommodating and very pleasant to talk to!

The ONLY quam I have about the cabin is that - we could not swim off the dock - it was very weedy (and perhaps the time of year - later in the year) . We drove our boat out more to the open to swim..... and the only other thing - is that I wished it was on the water! But being in the Kenora area, its a rocky area to begin with!

Other than that - the cabin was fantastic, complete wilderness, the birds in the mornings, lovely!

I would very much recommend friends and family to stay here!

Everyone had a great time!

Our family very much enjoyed spending a few weeks connecting with nature and trying to live as eco friendly as possible Fishing, foraging, photography, swimming made for a lovely get away! We find Middle Lake serene and quiet compared to other lakes in this areaThe property owner is a delight! Very accomodating and helpful.

Great Stay

  • 4 of 5

The cabin was still under construction when we arrived but was very well laid out and had everything we required and more. I was there with my 2 adult sons, nephew and another friend. We stayed August long weekend and had a great time. The dock was new and we spent a fair bit of time in the water which was quite warm. Susan had kayak's available for our use which the boys used for exploring the lake. If we return this way again we will definitely try to book here again. Thanks Susan for a great quiet getaway location.

West Cott Rental

  • 4 of 5

My extended family and I thoroughly enjoyed the West Cott house. Many hours were spent close to home - fishing, paddling and watching for wildlife. Located about 15 minutes outside of Kenora we were also able to take advantage of the tourist attractions in town after which we were able to retreat back to the West Cott and it's peaceful surroundings. The house has been well cared for and had ample space for all of us. Susan was very welcoming and provided most amenities. Great memories were made - we had a terrific time. Thank you Susan - hope we can return.

New Cabin

  • 4 of 5

This cabin was new and under construction when we were there. Although it was under construction, it didn't seem like it as there was little left to be done. We had pretty well everything we needed. We were able to offer our suggestions for our next visit and were very thankful that the owner Susan was happy to implement them. I highly recommend this cabin. Susan goes the extra mile for her guests and is more than happy to please. Thank you Susan and we will be back.
