DESCRIPTION OF THE AREA: The exact location is 1 minute away from Carmine Square , the heart of the Oltrarno district on the other side of the River and Ponte Vecchio is just 5 minutes away. The Cathedral is 10minutes away and the Boboli Garden with Palazzo Pitti is 5minutes aways. You are a walking distance from all the top spot in Florence, so forget bus and taxi. This is an authentic Florence district, so you are in the middle of supermarket, shops, bakeries, bar, restaurants, ecc ecc and Piazza Santo Spirito one on the most animated square in town is just 5 minutes away.
The apartment and garden are very charming, indeed. Beautiful garden, especially in Spring. Modern bathroom and kitchen; seems recently renovated in most areas.
Pros: Apartment is clean, modern, well furnished; plenty of towels, dishes, pots/pans, flatware. Good restaurants just doors away, grocery store just 2-3 blocks. Greeter speaks English and is accessible by phone or text.
Cons: no dryer (as stated in listing); washing machine holds only a small load and takes over an hour for a cycle; clothes must be hung to dry (presented a little problem with 3 of us and some rainy afternoons). [This would be true in any apartment in Italy, so plan accordingly.] Nearby restaurants empty all of their garbage and bottles into a big dumpster right outside the front of the apartment around 12:30 a.m. (very noisy for those in the front bedroom). Back bedroom gets a lot of noise from upstairs. Wifi router is in front bedroom, so wifi works perfectly there, spotty in living room, and not at all in the back bedroom or garden (when dropped, we would have to go to the front bedroom to reconnect). Cell phones work only if you stand right next to the front bedroom window or go outside (we had both iPhone & Samsung, on different carriers, and had identical problems). As we found with all of the beds in the apartments and hotels where we stayed in Italy, the beds here are super firm. Shower is very slippery, but we took a mat from the laundry room and placed it in the shower, and that worked.
Needed: Instructions for the oven and microwave (different from same appliances in the US) and instructions for when you accidentally trip the master power breaker switch (which happens if you turn on any two of these at the same time: washing machine, oven, microwave, hair dryer, toaster). The shower appears to also be a sauna, but there are no instructions for use of the control panel or how to make it work. Consider moving wifi router to living room so it works in the entire apartment.
This is a ground floor apartment, but there are 2 steps up to enter, and then a step down to access front bedroom. The garden table and clothes line are 2 tall steps up. Most people won't be bothered, but if you're looking for wheel chair access, or have someone who walks with a cane, be aware of these stairs.
Overall, we figured out ways to make it work, although it was not ideal for any of us. We would not stay here again, based mostly on noise, wifi & phone access.
Beautiful spacious apartment with all the amenities one can possibly want at an extremely affordable price. Check in was easy, getting around simple, we loved living in a residential area so we could feel like true Floretians...excellent pizza place literally a block away...sit down restaurants as well but we didn't have a chance to try them..the bedrooms are on either side of the apartment for privacy and there us a lovely garden for dinners or enjoying a glass of local wine...can't say enough about this well thought out, charming, air conditioned apartment! Thank you!
Very pleasant appartment with a good equipment. Quiet area close from the center, we appreciate very much the conditioned air...
Finaly, this appart is a better remind that the city of Firenze...wich do not have the charm of Roma or Venezzia...
You will find everything you need in the area (supermarket, cinema, bars, restaurants, libraries, galleries, fashion shops, etc.. The street has many many shops, pattiseries, bars, cafe's, bank, restaurants chemists. The area is also very quiet and safe at night and you feel completely comfortable walking around some nights at midnight.
