Cathy and Ramon Gonzalez
About Cathy and Ramon Gonzalez
Your hosts, Ramon (a former New Yorker) and Cathy (a born and raised Californian), have lived and worked in Seward for over 20 years. We have traveled throughout the state, enjoying all of the vastness and glory Alaska has to offer. We are actively involved in the health and well being of Seward area residents and tourists. When not treating patients at his Acupuncture/Massage Clinic, Ramon is usually out fishing for the 'big one'. He is quick to fill your ear with his fishing stories and to give suggestions and advice on our 'local' fishing areas! When not busy running the Lodge, Cathy, an active hiker and gardener, spends her spare time enjoying all Alaska has to offer or merely working in her gardens. She has hiked every trail within 30 miles, kayaked Resurrection Bay, climbed the Harding Ice Fields, ran the Mount Marathon Race (7x) and owned and operated Seward's first Fitness & Dance Center. It is our passion to make sure our guests enjoy and make the most of their time in Seward, and are always available to help their guest plan out their activities. It gives us great pleasure to share our beautiful home and unique town with guests.
Cathy and Ramon Gonzalez purchased this Lodge in 2002
Why Cathy and Ramon Gonzalez chose Old Mill
The acre of property that Log Dreamin' Lodge sits on was hand picked by Ramon and Cathy. After living in Old Mill Subdivision for several years we felt it was one of the most beautiful lots around. We purchased the raw land, and with the help of our family hand cleared the property. With the help of family and friends we assembled the custom log kit, hired local contractors and artist to help finish the interior of the house. The stone wall was created by Ramon's brother (see if you are able to locate the many stories it tells). The custom kitchen and bathroom tiles were done by a local artist. Ramon built the decks and woodshed while Cathy created many gardens and garden art, yet leaving as much natural forest as possible. New to the grounds this season is a beautiful mosaic fire pit and patio hand built by Cathy and Ramon using recycled and sustainable materials. It began as our family home, which later became a very successful Bed and Breakfast and is now a full lodge set up for large groups, or family and friends traveling together. The love and uniqueness of our lovey home is not meant to be used by a few people, but to be shared by many. The more we share our home with others, the more love that is poured into it. It is because of our wonderful guest that we have learned to love and appreciate our lovely home so much more!
What makes this Lodge unique
When you arrive at Log Dreamin' Lodge, you will be greeted by beautiful gardens and mountain views. Upon entering the home, the warm, cozy, loving energy will welcome you with open arms. You may choose to sit in the bright warm living room, hoping to catch a glimpse of our wildlife visitors, or choose to mosie upstairs to settle in the sunny bay window, to admire the view or read a good book. Possibly your eyes will wander to the beautiful custom kitchen, where the antique cook stove sits ready to share with you the many stories of her 100 years of family cooking! If the sun is shinning in all it's glory, and you are sun a lover as Cathy is.....you may find yourself not entering the house at all, but sitting in a chair on the deck allowing Alaska to take you to another place and time. You may find yourself headed to the creek in hopes of seeing some salmon or just inhaling the intoxicating fragrances floating about, or simply stop, listen and watch the many birds feeding and flying about. Me...I would most likely walk about admiring the gardens and garden art, hoping to catch a glimpse of the hummingbirds or listen for the baby swallows in their nests. Ramon....well he would be heading straight for the shed to gather his fishing rods and nets, dreaming of catching the 'big one'. It is all this and more why we love our Alaska Home. Every nook and cranny has been touched by our hands, spending years and years creating more and more beauty for our family, friends and guests to enjoy.
