A beautiful experience in such a wonderful place for my fiancé and I.

This was a beautiful stay for my fiancé and I. The house was very beautiful in and out the pool and jacuzzi was wonderful. The caretaker name Dani was great anything we needed he was always there The neighborhood was very nice and quite. The view was beautiful from the front and back of the house. I plan on coming back in April of next year and so far I’m very happy with this place and wouldn’t mind calling this home. I would recommend this place to all you will enjoy and love this place just like I have. Thank you once again for a beautiful experience in such a beautiful house

two weeks holiday in Feb. Chris and Cindy from Canada with their friend Peter from North Carolina

We had a great time going to the beach and sightseeing, with our Canadian friends, who had rented a car. Yash and Hemu looked after us very well and their condo is very bright, modern and well furnished. The view is spectacular, with the ocean waves crashing on the reef and on the backside of the house there is the view of the mtn. Isabela De Tores, which we enjoyed while lounging in the pool . There are lots of good restaurants and Happy Hr. at Rick's Cafe was great. We would definitely recommend this accommodation for a relaxing holiday. Chris

Unbeleivable views

House is very well located with views of the ocean on one side and mountain and downtown Puerto Plata on the other side. Very nice pool and outdoor space even when it rains under the large palapas. Owners and caretaker very nice and helpful all the time. Beach, taxis, mini market store, pharmacy and resto all within 5-15 walking minutes distance. And all inside Costambar secured neighborhood. Must take a cab to go down to Puerto Plata though. 5 kms and about $15US one way. We have moved into the main house upon owners departure and love it.

My boyfriend and I spent a week at Casa Aggarwal in November 2006, and we were very pleased with the accomodation provided to us. The appartment was clean and comfortable, and the backyard and grounds of the home were very well-kept by their housekeeper Noel, who always works hard and is available for you, whatever your need. The swimming pool and jacuzzi were nice, and the best part was the beautiful view all around the appartment that we had of the mountains and ocean. Grocery store and essential services were all within walk, and overall the town was welcoming as a quiet and multicultural neighbourhood, where Americans, Canadians, Europeans, and Dominicans alike coexist peacefully. All in all, it was a cozy vacation, and very relaxing for me and my boyfriend. I recommend this place if you are looking for a laid-back retreat in a nice part of Puerto Plata. Raffaela

Great Getaway to Travel or Stay In

My husband and I stayed here for about 4 days in May. The property owner was responsive and very helpful while we were preparing for our trip, and we were able to communicate with Carlos the caretaker via WhatsApp when we had WiFi. We spent most of our time traveling to different places (day trips to Monkey Jungle, beach and caves in Cabarete, Teleferico in Puerto Plata, and 27 Waterfalls). It was a decent walk (if you don't mind the hills and heat!) from a local grocery store and a couple restaurants, and we really enjoyed the mountain view from the backyard table and pool. Unfortunately, the house next door was in construction during our stay, but at least there was a mesh fabric between the houses to provide us with a little more privacy. Our favorite place was the outdoor area for meals and the pool. We took advantage of the kitchen to prepare our own meals for breakfast and lunches. Even though we chose to travel every day, we could see staying in for the week. We also stopped by the beach one evening - which was a very short drive from the house - and there were chairs there and vendors selling food, so that would be a good idea for a day activity close by.

Disliked: Cleanliness, amenities, property conditions & facilities
The house has potential but it needs overall cleaning and maintenance. The house was dirty, the countertop looked like they had been wiped but not cleaned due to having oil and old food stuck. The cutting board was not even washed, it had dry onion pieces. The showers had a lot of calcium buildup and 2 out of 3 shower had very poor water pressure. There is no hot water (which i dont really mind but was expecting) at least one of the bedroom doors upstairs was permanently locked and since we were unaware we closed the door. Good thing we had left one of the windows open and we were able to enter to open the door from the inside. The house caretaker lives at the house/pool house permanently. We were thankful of him since he brought us food, beer, lent us a speaker and showed us were the store was. The refrigerator leaked and barely got cold, we complained on day 2/3 and the caretaker changed it that same day. He was apologetic for the state of the house but we assumed that it was his job to clean and care for the house? The pool was very green with algae which we didn't notice until we came out and saw that we had removed the algae from the places we were sitting. We were only able to stay on the pool steps because the pool is very deep and it was also overfilled. The property is in a gated community with bars, restaurants, stores etc. with a beautiful view.
Pool was very dirty
This pool was too full making it very deep for people with average height

A wonderful home/apartment to stay in while you discover Puerto Plata, DR.

We stayed in Yash and Hemu's apartment in Costamber which is a gated community in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic. Yash arranged for transportation for my friend and I from the Santa Domingo Airport. We arrived late in the night...about 12 midnight and Hemu greeted us warmly and showed us our lovely apartment. In the morning we were delighted to see that we were sitting on the top of the hillside overlooking the ocean and mountains. I had a lovely patio next to the pool, overlooking the beautiful mountains to do Yoga each morning. The apartment is clean and very lovely and comfortable. Hemu's lovely art decorates the apartment. We visited the 27 Waterfalls and had the BEST adventure there. Yash arranged transportation for us to go there as well as down town in Puerto Plata a couple of times. We were there during Carnival and were able to attend with Yash and Hemu and enjoyed being part of the wonderful Carnival experience. The beach is just a few minutes walk down the hill. It is a beautiful long beach visited mostly by the local community, so it is not crowded at all. There are wonderful restaurants in that area as well. We were able to buy some groceries and fresh fruit at the local store and exchange money there as well. The pool on the property is lovely and well cared for. This was a marvelous place to stay and the Hosts were extraordinary in their hospitality. I would recommend this lovely home to everybody wanting to visit Puerto Plata.

I had a great time at this apartment. The positive, which can not be under estimated are the wonderful owners. The previous reviews which state how nice and helpful they are is dead on! Any concerns or questions you have are immediately addressed with a smile and a solution. I’ve stayed in Puerto Plata numerous times at all-inclusive or high end villa rentals. This was a departure for me. I was a little leery of Costamabar after doing some research on the internet and speaking to several Dominican friends. The concerns were about the frequent power outages and the state of the roads. But, I am happy I stayed at this apartment. I was extremely disappointed by the lack of cable television. The owner informed me upon arrival that there hasn’t been cable in about a year, but he’s working on restoring it. They left a DVD player and several DVD’s in the apartment but I choose to use my laptop for entertainment. Luckily, most of my time was spent away from the apartment where television wasn’t an issue, but when you’re away you still would like to tune in CNN every now and catch up on the world. The apartment is a very nice size one bedroom unit. It was very clean and enjoyable for company. I was able to cook several wonderful meals. Please be advised that the area suffers from blackouts and while the unit has a back-up system the air conditioning will not work during the black outs. These black outs last several hours each day. During the day this is not an issue. But, at 3am when you’re trying to sleep and you’ve got the Caribbean heat bearing down on you, it becomes an issue. Overall, I had a wonderful stay at the apartment. And I will consider staying at the apartment again. I’m a tourist who knows the area and I rented a SUV. So, getting around wasn’t an issue.
Response from VrboOwner on 8 May 2020
Great to receive a positive review. There has been a problem with the current cable company's service here. We are in process of getting new much better service and hopefully our Television should be working fine soon. Regarding electricity blackouts: Costambar Property Owner's Association just had a lengthy meeting with the electric company, Edinorte, and have been promised that soon Costambar will have 24/7 electricity. The work has began but it will take few months to finish. In the apartment all appliances, fan, lights work 24/7 because of our excellent backup system. People who travel to these countries must be aware that conditions are not exactly like the U.S. or Canada. A little inconveniences are, however, rewarded by fantastic weather, great views of ocean, mountains, exotic garden and wonderful caribbean culture. We ourselves, after living 45 years in the U.S. decided to retire and build our house here overlooking ocean and mountains are perfectly happy despite of some inconveniences. It was great to have this guest stay here and we hope to see him again as he has promised to come back.

My stay in the DR

We stayed fir 3 lovely months. Our stay was very pleasant where we enjoyed a beautiful garden setting everyday. We found the walk to beach a bit long so we ended up renting a golf cart. The owners Yash and hemu were extremely helpful and kind. When we needed help with internet or needed translation to Spanish and a drive to stores in puerto plata they were always open to driving us. Our overall stay was great and I would return. So. thank you. Sharon and Andre.

What a wonderful couple and beautiful home! When we arrived we were welcomed with such friendliness and helpfulness. Then we had a thorough tour of the apartment (but it really felt like your own private home). The whole backyard is completely yours including the pool. We even forgot that we were staying an another night on our stay and checked out and had to return. They were so understanding and gracious! Highly recommended stay!! Caretaker a petty theif

The rental is a mother-in-law suite attached to Hemu and Yash's house. The suite can be accessed by them and their caretaker. Their is no dead bolt to prevent access from the tenant side. Also, there is no safety deposit box available. I was not aware of any money missing until my last 6 days. The landlord, Yash and Hemu had left a week or so before then so it was only the caretaker "Dani" and I on their property. As the last week was now present, I did not want to convert too much American money and also my activities were now minimal where money would be needed. On Thursday February 23, 250 pesos in paper money and 75 pesos in coin. That day I went to the beach and then returned to the my place having spent no money. Dani was to clean my studio and he told landlord that he would not clean unless I was home. So when I did get there, he went inside to clean while I sat outside. After he left and I had finished getting ready to go out. Discovered that 200 pesos in paper were still in purse but not the 50 paper or the 50 in coin. Because I had just been to the bank a few days prior, I was going to record the serial numbers of the bill the next day. Friday February 24, I put 470 pesos in my wallet and this time I put a small piece of paper with the money showing the amount. This time, I went for my morning walk returning about 9 a.m. During my walk, I met up with a couple of friends who invited me to join them later that morning to Puerto Plata. After I returned and was preparing to meet those girls, I took out extra money from my "secret" spot" remember no safety box. When I opened my wallet, 270 pesos were only there. I had not been any where except for my morning walk. I then went to people that I had met and that were actually friends of the landlord. They took me to Jack who is the head of the security for this community of Costambar. His suggestion was either to install dead bolts from my side or better to leave and find a new place for my safety! I went back threw everything I had in suitcase and bags. The people helped my find a place to stay for my last 5 nights. I told Yash and Hemu and they did not believe me. What would gain by doing this? The trouble of moving out? They offered no support or financial reimbursement. I met many very nice people in the Dominican and in Costambar but not here at this property.

We are saddened and dismayed at reading this review. The guest alleges that a few dollars were stolen by Dani, the caretaker, from her apartment. We have great difficulty in believing that Dani stole this money. Dani has been in our employment for the past 6 years. No one - and we underscore no one- has ever complained or alleged of any money or valuable being stolen during their stay at our place. Nor have we ever noticed any money or thing of value missing from our house despite the fact that Dani has full access to the house while we are out of town. In fact, guests have invariably praised Dani for his courtesy, gentleness, and the desire to accommodate the wishes of the guests. We invite prospective tenants to read other reviews concerning Dani.. And we, nor any of the guests, have ever felt the need to install dead bolts. Entry to the apartment is indispensable in the case of an emergency such as fire. The amount in question is really a pittance. It is likely that this guest is simply mistaken. She was apparently drunk half of the time. And it is possible that she simply did not remember having spent the small amounts elsewhere and was unduly perturbed when she could not account for the small amounts that she thought were missing. Our experience with this guest was rather negative. She stayed 7 weeks at our place and never gave even a penny in tips to the caretaker, even though he regularly cleaned her apartment and washed her clothes free of charge. He normally gets paid $5 per load of laundry. It is also disheartening to note that the entire review is based on the allegation that some money was stolen from her. It says nothing about the place, the beautiful views, the safe location, or our hospitality (we invited her on several occasions for drinks, cake and/or coffee and took her to the town for shopping). Apparently, it was written out of spite when we refused to believe her (rather than our caretaker). She in fact threatened us in writing that she will write a rather bad review if we did not compensate her. First six weeks of her stay at our property she was full of praise and often she told us how much she loved staying here and enjoying views of sunset and sunrise.

Fantastic time in the DR

I had a fantastic time in the DR. Casa Aggarwal was quiet and relaxing. Dani the groundskeeper is there to help with any needs. He was truly a blessing during my stay. I was traveling by myself. The property and area was very safe. I have to say I loved all the paintings by the owner. They are throughout the apartment. They are very beautiful and fun to look at. The walk to the beach is a little far and lots of hills. However, the neighbor dropped me off. He would not take a tip. A very nice gentleman. You can easily hop a ride there if you dont have a car. I hope to visit in the near future with my family!! Puerto Plata has a piece of my heart!! Thank you!

Yash and Hemu were amazing hosts. They were very polite, accommodating, and even gave us an occasional ride to where we needed to go. The apartment was amazingly clean and was great for the price. The food in Costambar is also great. The beach is a 10 minute walk away and I honestly can't think of a bad thing to say about the property. Views are great, pool is great, everything is great. This is a nice place

I spent 4 nights at this property....Yash, his wife and the young caretaker Dani are wonderful hosts. They tolerated my particular personality quirks, and I got the feeling that they were willing to help in any way possible. Very nice people. The room itself was clean and well appointed, with lots of blankets, towels, dishes and glasses. The pool was clean and refreshing. All correspondence was answered promptly. The house is a relatively short walk to the beach and market. Kent

It was great to have Kent stay at our place. He was friendly and polite. He observed all our house rules and when left the place was fairly clean. We would welcome back kent. He did expressed his wish to stay longer but had to leave. Hemu and Yash Owner
