Roomy but had some flaws

  • 2 of 5

When we arrived, we couldn't get in because an extra door knob was locked and wasn't supposed to be. The housekeeper arrived quickly to let us in. I am very particular as far as cleanliness and this home was okay in that department. There were ants in the kitchen which this time of year I can understand but they were on the counters which made preparing food difficult. The windows in the bathrooms weren't appropriately covered therefore someone in the house next door or outside could easily see in especially when dark outside. The house was humid due to only having window air conditioners which was okay and maybe understandable due to the age of the home. There was no provided dishwasher detergent for the dishwasher which I went and purchased and the rubber on the plug for the sink to do dishes by hand was cracked and old so it wouldn't hold water. I mentioned some of these things to the owner and he assured me he would address those issues. I just want to give an honest review for those considering. We did like that we had a home to spread out in after a long day touring DC. There is a Walmart and Safeway nearby which was very handy for purchasing any grocery items or anything else we needed while staying.

Some positives, some negatives

  • 2 of 5

First the good news...the house is well located and very convenient to DC and walking distance to the metro and a couple of fun local restaurants. Also, the owner is very responsive and has a good cleaning crew.

The beds were comfortable. The price is hard to beat.

On the negative side, the house is very old and could be very charming and inviting, but that would take some effort and updating. The most serious problem was ants - reportedly, the recent heavy rains and time of the year were the reasons. The house is in located in a heavily wooded area which is lovely but also making it no surprise there are insects around. Too many in the house, though.

Great place especially for readers

  • 4 of 5

Home was well equipped for our stay. We brought a crock pot so after sightseeing all day we had a hot meal to eat that’s a lot cheaper the the DC restaurants. The upstairs bedrooms are not good for tall folks because of ceilings are lower than normal in spots. Both bathrooms are good size and water pressure is great. AC window units were good and upstairs have extra fans for the hottest part of the summer. Lots of books, I think I remember 5 or 6 bookcases full of books on every subject you can imagine. About a 10 to 15 minute walk to the Metro. It took about 20 - 30 minute ride to the National Mall.

Felt very safe in the neighborhood even returning at midnight on some occasions. All in all a great place to stay at a great price.

Pleasant stay in quaint house

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time in this house! There were six of us and it was quite comfortable - as other people have reviewed, upstairs was warm but once the kids got the air figured out they were able to cool it down. It's an easy walk to the metro and a nice, quiet neighborhood. The owner was in touch with us beforehand and throughout the week, and was a very accommodating host. So happy we stayed here, if we end up coming back it will be the first place I check for availability.
