Interaction with guests

We live upstairs full time. It's an old house built in 1920's with hard wood floors up stairs. The floors squeak though we are very conscious of your stay. We have a 6 year old daughter, who of course likes to run and dance. So you might here "pit-a-pat, pit-a-pat" on the floor above you. (We have a no jumping rule in our house - sometimes we have to remind.)

We also work from home. We have our shops and offices, out of the house ,in the back yard. We are usually around if you need us and also respect your privacy. We are flexible hosts and can give you lots of recommendation or give you the time away you've been wanting.

We have been living with people for the past 18 years.

Other things to note

I use a dehumidifier that keeps it extra fresh and clean. We clean and sanitize with all natural products.

*Queen sized bed, super cozy. Sleeps 2

*Twin sized sleeper couch. Great for kids or super cuddly adults. 2 kids, 1 adult.

*Extra foam or air mattress, upon request, incase you are a group of 4 and want to sleep more comfortably.

Forced air heat for entire house. Thermostat controls heat for both levels of the house. Please DO NOT LEAVE IT ON AT NIGHT. It tends to be loud. We can accommodate you with more blankets. But of course we want you to be comfortable.

You are welcome to use the laundry facilities, soap provided.

Please, leave shoes at the door.

Free street parking! Remember to park leaving space for another car in the front, drive way is reserved for Justin's business truck.

We do live upstairs and some noise does travel. Please contact us if anything is a bother! We have been renting for 15 years and are very used to living and respecting others in the house.

Enjoy the back yard, make yourself at home and feel free to ask or text us with any questions while out an about!

You must also be able to:

Climb stairs - There are stairs leading down to the apartment.

Hello, we are your hosts, Amber Jane and Justin.

We moved to Portland in 1996. And bought this beautiful property in 2000.

Justin is an old-school sign guy who does hand lettering, gilding, carved signs, and wall jobs. You shall see some Riede Signs hanging around. Find signs he has done around town like Barista Coffee, Salt & Straw, Renata, Wonder Lust & Wild Heart.

Amber Jane has been a healer her whole life. Working with Energy Medicine and the Plant Kingdom. Offering session to enhance wellness and open up to even more joy.

We have a daughter born at home, early in the morning in July 2011.

We both believe that life should be filled with fun, good food, art and a bit of adventure. We find pleasure in improving our property, time with family and friend's as well as homesteading when we have time.

We have been renting the down stair since 2000 and turned it into a vacation rental in 2012.

Great Portland Experience

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I enjoyed a week-long stay in this charming apartment in one of Portland's unique neighborhoods. Amber greeted us with warm welcome on a cold holiday evening after a very long cross-country flight, and throughout the week we appreciated all of the little extras that make a visit so much more enjoyable. The large, updated bathroom was a special treat, and I loved the retro decor in the the kitchen!

Very nice, comfortable and friendly...

  • 5 of 5

We had a very nice stay at Little Hen & Hare. Our stay was long, about a month and we had a lot of time to spend in our cosy basement. Almost nothing was missing. The property had everything you would need even when you' re cooking complicated meals. The bed was very comfortable, the bathroom was huge and stylish. The back yard was awesome...Amber and Justine were very very friendly and helpful. Transportation is very easy even if you do not have a car. So we really recommend this place to everyone for a wonderful stay in Portland.

Sweet, sweet abode!

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic stay here. Amber Jane and Keith were wonderful hosts. Loved the fresh coffee beans and French press, and while we don't whiten our coffee, they had 1/2 & 1/2 there for us, just in case. Heartily recommend this sweet dwelling!

Cute Place

  • 5 of 5

Everything as advertised, well maintained, retro Portland look. Hosts, who live on the main level, were kind. Property is a quiet, fun place for our young Portland grancdhilren to visit--hens, hares, tree house, hammockk, toys The spacious basement apartment was cool enough even though Portland was pretty warm--note to summer visitors, be sure to close windows during the day to keep the warm air out.
