Overview

About the property

1 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 2

Very whimsical and unique accommodation with breathtaking views of Maple Bay and across to Salt Spring Island! There are three 100 square foot adjoining cottages that cascade down the bank, together forming one very unforgettable home away from home. These three cottages are all yours to enjoy, and each one is a separate room accessed only from the outside. One is the kitchen, one is the tv room, and one is the bathroom with double bed sleeping loft. Access to the sleeping loft is via a narrow and steep staircase, and the cottages are joined by a series of decks and stairways and are all on different levels. It's a good idea to bring slippers or flip flops to go from cottage to cottage. Sip wine and barbeque on the spacious deck high above and overlooking the flurry of the Maple Bay Yacht Club and Marina. Rent kayaks at the nearby Maple Bay Marina and then enjoy a private hot tub and sauna on the deck when you return! There's also a fire pit with seating area and lots of wood to keep you warm on chilly nights! A very romantic getaway...

About Renee Russell

I am a busy Realtor in the Cowichan Valley. I love to travel, but find it hard to get away, so I'm bringing guests to my property instead!

Renee Russell purchased this cottage in 2012

Why Renee Russell chose Maple Bay

Once you visit the Guesthouse, you will see why I bought this property. It is truly magical, and I want to share where I live with others. Maple Bay is a quaint community approximately 10-15 minutes from downtown Duncan by car. There are several pubs and restaurants near the Guesthouse, and the Maple Bay Marina has a small market with grocery necessities and really good ice cream and local arts & crafts.

What makes this cottage unique

A bathroom with sleeping loft (double bed), a tv room, and a kitchen with large deck. Three individual cabins for you to enjoy. Cabins are joined and accessed from the exterior via decks and staircases. PLEASE NOTE: Sleeping loft is accessed via a steep narrow staircase, like a ladder. Very unique and very comfortable, but guests must be able to climb stairs. Private hot tub and sauna under a covered deck, and a fire pit with wood to keep you warm on chilly nights!

Awesome place to unwind and get away from it all!

We had big plans to explore the area, but ultimately sat on the deck with glass of wine in hand, watching the world go by on a sail boat. Excellent place to kick back, read a book and relax.

Beautiful getaway for 2

  • 5 of 5

What a beautiful spot! My wife and I stayed 4 days and we enjoyed it very much. Beautiful and unrestricted view of the water in a very quiet place! Lots of things to do if you love nature. We rented kayaks, visited the farmer's market, hiked nearby trails, went on a day trip to Salt Spring Island... and relaxed a lot. To top it off, Renee (the owner) was very kind and welcoming! Best rental we've had in a long time.

The most romantic holiday place ever!

  • 5 of 5

Baywatch Oceanfront Guesthouse is a place that lives up to its name: It has an unrestricted view to the beautiful calm Maple Bay, its Oceanfront is a constant pleasure to the eye, it feels truly like home with a feeling of romance floating in the air! Before we booked the place we were concerned about its structure of 3-piece cottages that it might be awkward to get out of each cottage just to get to the other. But in fact once there, we realized that the three-piece-cottages are made with lots of creative, artistic and practical thoughtfulness. We used the tv/sitting room with its walk-in closet as our dressing room; the bedroom has a toilette, with a very good shower attached to it. I should add that I have a strong sense of smell; still I did not sense any foul smell emitting from the toilette which shows it must have a strong natural ventilation system. We used the cottage dedicated to the kitchen the most; it’s spacey with the essentials you need for cooking and grilling, and a separate large terrace directly facing the ocean with a comfy lying chair on which my husband delightfully took a nap most afternoons. By the fence surrounding the terrace, you could see very tall Fir and Arbutus trees conveniently leaned to the sides adding to the beauty of the whole ensemble while not restricting the Oceanview. Our hosts, Renee and Andre were friendly, accessible, accommodating and very kind. Soon after our arrival, we were in the kitchen unpacking when our hostess Renee came to us with her beautiful smile and offered us a tray of crackers, cheese, olives and a bottle of local Foch Eh 2016 wine, all of which we devoured with immense joy and gratitude during our 6-day stay.

For a fun workout we enjoyed a 2-hour slow Kayaking in a two-seat boat on the serene Bay. It took us less than 5 minutes drive to the Wilderness Kayaking shop where the very friendly owner, Brian, welcomed us and generously told us all about what we needed to know in order to have a safe and enjoyable experience on the water. The next day, we walked all along the beach, passed by Brian's shop for a Magnum ice-cream and kept on walking.

My husband and I loved the greenery and the calm beauty surrounding it, the birds singing early in the morning and the sense of independence that we felt as if we were on an Island all alone, that we vowed to go back. Thank you Renee and Andre for sharing with us your gem of a place, and your outstanding hospitality. We will revisit you soon.
