Equipped with WiFi, flat-screen TV with DVD player, excellent cell phone reception, and a safe large enough to protect laptop and other valuables, our cabins are located just a few minutes from beautiful Avellanas Beach! In this ocean paradise, you can surf world class breaks, swim and soak up the sun, or just kick back and rest or read on the sand under shade trees. Tropical open-air restaurants and bars serve cold drinks, light snacks, and delicious full meals, featuring both local and international cuisine. After your day in the sun and surf, you can take a quick rinse-off under our outdoor shower before coming inside to enjoy the comfort and convenience indoors.
In addition to the amenities listed above, each cabin has A/C, a queen-sized bed in the bedroom, a fold-out couch in the living room, a spacious living room area, and a modern kitchen with full-sized refrigerator/freezer, a glass-top range with 4-burner stove top and oven, a coffee maker, a blender, a toaster, pots and pans, dishes, and flatware utensils. Each cabin is protected by a home security system, decorative grates on the windows and door, as well as a resident caretaker.
Even though Avellanas is a jungle area, it’s easy to get around, whether you choose to walk from place to place locally, take a bike ride around the area, hire a taxi to nearby restaurants, ride the bus line* to the town of Tamarindo, or rent a car to explore the surrounding surf breaks, beaches, and towns. Our property manager, Miguel Guadamuz, can arrange any tour that you’d like.
Whether you ride a long board or short board, you can always find a fun ride at Playa Avellanas! Surf Breaks include “Little Hawaii” (a right point break on the north end of Playa Avellanas), right and left river mouth breaks, several beach breaks, and a left point break on the south end of the bay.
So, are you ready to enjoy life in this little slice of heaven? You can rent one cabin at the prices listed under the “Rates” tab above. However, you can rent both cabins at a reduced rate and save $100.
Note: When checking the calendar for availability, please don't be discouraged if the calendar shows the cabin is booked because it is possible that only ONE of the cabins is booked and the OTHER is still available. To check for availability of the other cabin, please check my other listing on VRBO, or send me an inquiry on this website.
*The Avellanas Express Bus Line provides service from Tamarindo to Avellanas and as far south as Nigra. The cost from Tamarindo to Avellanas is $6 per person.

About George & Kathy Alford
My wife, Kathy, and I live in central Florida. We have traveled to Costa Rica several times, staying in Nosara, Jaco, and Avellenas, before choosing to build our two cabinas in Avellanas. We love everything about Avellanas, rain forest wildlife, beaches, surf, restaurants, pubs, sunsets, and the friendly people we have met there. We have 9 children and 17 grandchildren who look forward to enjoying the cabinas with us!
George & Kathy Alford purchased this House in 2014
Why George & Kathy Alford chose Tamarindo
We believe that God led us to this beautiful place! We are grateful for the strong faith presence in Costa Rica, and we are thankful that an American priest who speaks English (and several other languages) has recently been assigned to celebrate Mass and preach in the Catholic Church in Tamarindo.
What makes this House unique
Avellanas is a rural beach community tucked away in a tropical jungle area, yet you can also find nice open air restaurants and bars just a few minutes from our cabinas. (Our two favorites are Las Olas and the Beach Box!) Also, just 20 minutes away in nearby Tamarindo, you can find churches (including Santa Maria Catholic Church), shopping, casinos, surf shops, hotels, restaurants, and lots of day tours and expeditions to see volcanoes, the rain forest, and more.

I spent a month in one of these cabinas. Incredibly nice time. The booking and reservation process was seamless. George was very easy to work with to book the property. Upon arrival the property manager Miguel was very responsive and met me promptly to allow access. Miguel was very helpful getting me settled in and providing me with local knowledge. During the month there were a couple of really minor glitches that you could expect at any rental property and he went above and beyond to rectify. I called Miguel's phone one evening upon returning from the beach to report that the refrigerator did not appear to be working properly. I left a message on his voicemail and I expected I might hear from him the next day. 10 minutes after my call there was a knock on the door and Miguel was there to take a look at things and the technician was there the next morning.
These cabinas are very nicely appointed and clean. They have modern appliances. The air conditioning is not typical and is a very nice luxury. The location is perfect, being within walking distance of some of the nicest beaches in Guanacaste and a fair number of really nice restaurants. Cabinas Los Olas across the way has a really great, friendly restaurant and bar. They are generous enough to allow access to their boardwalk that provides and incredibly beautiful walk to and from the beach.
I cannot recommend this place highly enough. I will definitely be contacting George the next time I plan to return to the area.
Loved the Cabina. It had all the components that I was looking for. A kitchen stocked up with dishes and cooking utensils made our stay very comfortable. The spacious rooms added to our sense of feeling being at home. The environment around the cabina is gorgeous. It is surrounded with trees, which easily makes it a home to birds and howling monkeys. The part that impressed me even more is the care and efficiency of the people who take care of the property. Especially, Miguel. This young man oversees that the guests who stay in the cabina have everything they need. He is very efficient and we are totally appreciative of his leadership abilities in handling every question that we had. We are also grateful to the owners of the cabina, George and Kathy for making their place available to travellers such us. The only thing that I need to point out is that a car is necessary, even though there is a local bus and shuttle that is available at restricted times of the day.
El lugar está bien.
Está a una distancia que puede resultar lejos para ir caminando al mar, pero en auto es a 5 minutos. Avellanas es una playa muy bonita, con poca oferta, pero eso fue lo que buscamos.
You must not have tried the shortcut that I mentioned on my website. In just 8 to 10 minutes, you can enjoy a scenic walk to the beach by using the sidewalk and boardwalk through Las Olas, the restaurant on the east side of the main road across from our place. It's absolutely beautiful!
COZY CABINA & BEST SURF SPOT!!
My 1st trip back to CR in over 30yrs & BEST SURF EVER!!!
George is wonderful & Not your typical VRBO owner, as he truly cares about making his casa your casa!
It's Newly built and has all the comforts of home, including AC that's very rare in this tropical climate.
I enjoyed the Peace & Quiet as it was truly a relaxing trip with the BEST surfing with 10min walk to the beach.
Lolas & Cabinas Las Olas Restuarant are nearby to enjoy as much (or as little) as you like with beautiful scenery of the ocean, dining outside doesn't get any better! Liberia AP is an hour drive in rental car and San Jose AP is 4hr drive.
Nice property overall - comfortable bed, hot water, good internet, short walk to beach. Definitely needs to get some furniture for the porch and a few kitchen utensils seem to have disappeared but that happens in a rental. The place was clean when we arrived and Miguel and Ernesto checked in with us a couple times during our stay. Great food at Lola's, we split a lunch plate and it was plenty for both of us.The brick oven pizza place (don't remember the name) was very fresh. I would skip the Beach Box, it was eatable but I can't say it was good. Walk down through Las Olas Cabinas where we saw monkeys several afternoons and take the boardwalk through the mangrove to the beach, much better then using the dirt road. Stop by for a frozen drink or meal as a thank you for using the boardwalk. Mostly paved road but you do have to travel a dirt road for the last 10-15 minutes which is passable in a car but glad we got the suv so we did not worry about tearing up something on the rental car, heaven forbid! Only about 1 1/2 hours from Liberia airport and after a long day of air travel we were glad for the short road trip to get there.
Thank you so much for your 4-star review! We want our guests to have a great experience when staying at our cabinas, so I have passed your comments on to Miguel, our property manager. We will replace the missing kitchen utensils right away. I think that items may get broken or thrown away by accident, and our cleaning staff does not always notice when something is missing. I like your ideas about porch furniture! We are in the process of purchasing some patio chairs.
We are glad you had a fun vacation and hope you will stay with us again next year.
