Beautiful quiet setting and a wonderful family experience.
A really nice getaway.
We had a lovely time at the Farmhouse. It is remote-very remote. No wi-fi and it's definitely off the beaten path. There are some small town amenities within short drive but we chose to stick mostly to "home". It really felt like we stepped back in time, which is what we were looking for. We chose to pack paper products which turned out to be a great idea because the dishwasher was down when we visited, but with just the cooking/serving dishes it wasn't too bad. Ray was a very accessible and accommodating host. There was plenty of room for our 4 families, 16 total people (ranging 10 months to 48 years), with room to spare. The place was clean and tidy when we arrived. So many interesting rooms. It's pretty well stocked with a ton of games, linens, and books. The property is great for exploring even when we were there in the winter. It's an older home, full of character and charm. Drafty in some areas and definitely not the Hilton, but if you're looking for a semi-rustic but comfortable retreat to get away from the craziness of modern city life this would be a fun place. We would like to return in the spring/summer/fall for more of the outdoor activities.
The house was so warm, unique and well equipped! We will be back!
The house was cozy and comfortable. Everyone slept well in the beds. My only suggestion would be to provide a map for the light switches, as many were hard to find!
Thanks for the suggestion. I've put a floorplan of the house on the refrigerator with yellow stars showing the hidden switches.
Family get together July
The owners are absolutely a joy and so helpful. The hike down to the swimming hole is great, the family made the trip three times to see the water. It's just 15 to 20 min walk down a well kept trail. Your not far from Desota Falls which I recommend visiting. The farm house is an old farm house with much charm and huge rooms...you can get lost in the house...it takes a few hours before you know your way around. The family played board games and had a air hockey tournament. No internet and one tv which we thought we would not like but turns out it was a blessing, the family spent time with each other and made memories.
As wonderful as last time
Our second time to Ray and Bobbies place and it was just as memorable as 2 years ago. This time we had a total of 6 families with children at 21 people and fit in just fine. The home still reminded me of my grandmoms house and had that nostalgic, honey feel. The outside yard was a highlight for the kids, allowing them a place to run around and play. I think the beds are newer as they were comofortable and the new living room furniture was great for gathering around the tv or just relaxing. We had a fantastic time and appreciate the opportunity to enjoy this lovely area of Mentone again. The owners were hospitable and just a short distance away in case we needed anything. Thanks Zakary family.
