Snail’s Pace South – Spacious Retreat Just Minutes from DeSoto State Park

Escape to Snail’s Pace South, a serene hideaway just five minutes from the natural beauty of DeSoto State Park, offering breathtaking views of the valley below. With six bedrooms and 3.5 baths, this home is perfect for families or groups seeking space, comfort, and memorable gatherings.

The heart of the home is the large great room, featuring soaring 20-foot ceilings and a cozy wood-burning stove—ideal for relaxing, socializing, or enjoying a movie on the 50” flat-screen TV. The open layout flows seamlessly to the dining area, perfect for family meals, game nights, or unwinding after a day exploring the park.

The expansive kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need to prepare meals with ease, including a wall oven, cooktop, drip coffee maker, dishwasher, countertop ice maker, crockpot, and a full set of pots, pans, and dishes.

The main level features four bedrooms and 2.5 baths. The primary master suite offers a king bed, flat-screen TV, walk-in closet, and a rock fireplace with electric logs, plus direct access to the back deck. A second master also features a king bed and opens onto the back porch. Two additional bedrooms include queen beds, with one also providing a twin bed. The main-level bathrooms include a shower/tub combo and a large jetted whirlpool tub (no shower).

Upstairs, there are two more bedrooms and a full bath with a shower only. One bedroom features a king bed, flat-screen TV, and access to the screened porch, while the other is perfect for kids or extra guests, with a set of bunk beds plus a daybed with trundle. Every bedroom is furnished with a brand-new Dreamer mattress, ensuring a restful night’s sleep for all.

Step outside to discover even more appeal. A large back deck and covered porch provide stunning views of the valley below, complete with two porch swings and a gas grill—perfect for morning coffee, evening meals, or sunset cocktails.

Remote with Beautiful Views

We rented this beautiful property to attend a family reunion nearby. Property is comfortable for the 14 people of all ages that stayed with us. We had octogenarians people in their '50s, 20-year-olds and a 7-year-old who loved the property. The staff was quick to respond to our questions before our stay and during. Overall, I would highly recommend this property for someone looking to scale back from the big city and recharge for a few days.

Beautiful Place With Amazing Views

Beautiful place. Views were amazing. Very clean and nice home. It was very accommodating for our women’s retreat of 12 ladies. Would definitely recommend for a family gathering. We plan to return in the future.

Great weekend getaway

Plenty of bedrooms for 8 adults and 5 children. Great room is good size but needs additional lighting for doing puzzles and playing games.plenty of of parking and close to hiking areas. Kids enjoyed climbing on rocks around house.

Restful Family Getaway

Our party of nine spent a long weekend at this beautiful property and had such a wonderful getaway. There was plenty of room for everyone and the view was amazing. Loved hanging out in the great room, dining at the large table, and taking in the gorgeous views. As a bonus, it snowed! The house was so comfortable we didn’t mind staying in. Looking forward to another visit!

Amazing birthday weekend!

We had an absolutely amazing weekend with family & friends for my granddaughter’s 10th birthday. The mattresses were so comfortable, the wood burning fireplace was cozy & so many memories were made! We now have a new annual tradition of celebrating her birthday here every year!

Peaceful, Serene, Perfect

Everything since booking was been a delightful experience at Snail's Pace South. Check in instructions were sent before arriving and couldn't have been easier. We used Google Maps and never had an issue with navigating throughout our trip. Upon arrival I have to say the pictures didn't do this place justice! The warm atmosphere, tasteful touches, high ceilings, and amazing "sitting" porch with a great view truly made this trip one for the books. We did have a small issue upon arrival that was promptly handled by Holly and maintenance which we are very appreciated of! We were able to visit nearby Mentone and Ft. Payne as well as DeSoto State Park and Little River Canyon during our stay. 10/10 recommend making time for both during your stay. The entrance to the park is VERY close to the house with a great hike suitable for most ages. Lots of smaller grocery stores in the area and while the roads had the predicted curvature one would expect when staying at a higher altitude I found myself really enjoying the views along the drive that made it delightful. Thank you Holly for making our stay easy, and thank you all for the opportunity to make some amazing and much needed family memories together at Snail's Pace South. Extra thank you for the opportunity to bring our well behaved furry friends. It's not a vacation without the whole family! PS- We did have a hard time finding baking pans, but we could've easily overlooked them. Other than that kitchen is truly equipped with all one could want! We used the grill to cook steaks and they were delicious. It even rained some of our stay but due to thoughtful deck construction we never once got wet while rocking on the porch.

We are so glad you enjoyed your stay at Snail’s Pace South. There are some baking pans in the drawers under the oven but I will ensure that more are added.
