great location, needs some tlc

  • 4 of 5

We had an enjoyable week in Door County. The home is very dated, but we enjoyed the private, secluded location. We looked forward to the sunsets each evening. It’s unfortunate the shrubs and brush haven’t been trimmed back so the sunsets could be totally enjoyed from the nice patio. The dock has been removed and pulled aside, so it cannot be used. The lawn needed mowed when we arrived, and was still not mowed when we left.

There is a nice patio and furniture, but the umbrella provided is broken.

The water pipes squeal each time the shower runs and the toilet runs and makes a loud noise for several minutes after each flush. We enjoyed our week on the water, but for the price, one would expect more.

We had noticed several of these issues mentioned in much earlier reviews, but expected they would have been addressed after all this time....not so.

Wonderful get away!

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying in this waterfront home! Beautiful sunsets on the edge of the water were the icing on the cake. My three friends and I had plenty of room and enjoyed the options of two roomy inside gathering spots plus the deck/yard. The weather was very warm for September and we were a little anxious with no air conditioning. However, the shade of the trees, several fans and the breeze off the lake made our stay very comfortable. There was plenty of privacy and so it was very quiet and peaceful.

Great location and good size home

  • 4 of 5

Overall, we had a great stay. The home comfortably fit 6 adults and 2 children. The view of Lake Michigan and sunsets were fantastic. The house is quaint, and the location was great. Would definitely stay again.

Cozy home, great location

  • 4 of 5

Six adults stayed with plenty of room. Dated but clean and cozy home. Plusses: great location, very private, clean, spacious, well stocked kitchen, grill, fire pit outside, fast internet, WONDERFUL 3 season porch and spacious deck. Minuses: dock wasn't out. We would have really enjoyed it. No air except in one bedroom. Other rooms got a little warm and it was only in the high 70's. We would definitely come back.

Ideal waterfront location and privacy!

  • 4 of 5

The location is AMAZING. Close to everything, but extremely private. We stayed here for the entire 4th of July week and never saw or heard a neighbor. The view is ideal and the property is nicely mowed with lots of shade. The beach is very narrow and rocky, but fun to walk up and down a bit and swimmable with water shoes. Not great for little kids (ours are age 5 and 1 year old), but they were fine with hands on assistance. It was really exciting for them to be able to walk down to the water and even just stand there and throw rocks. Otherwise, the best beach we went to all week was just a mile away at Frank Murphy Park. It was perfect! Everything we did was convenient, yet we returned to perfect quiet and seclusion each day. It felt like we had the whole lake to ourselves and the sunsets were out of this world.

The house itself is very quirky and has a really cool unique layout, especially for kids. As a lover of all things vintage, I also adored that nothing felt newer than 2001. It made for GREAT family photos that looked instantly Instagrammed. With that said, a lot of things were a little off, but still functional. The patio umbrella was broken on one side and wouldn’t stay all the way open, the stove and kitchen necessities were very old and pretty borderline, all of the drawers and doors were sticky, the cupboards were disorganized, some windows didn’t work, the toilets run loudly for about 5 minutes before filling, the shower makes a loud squealing noise and goes hot/cold, and the electrical meter box outside made frequent long grinding noises for the last 2-3 days we were there. Also worth knowing: when the power goes out, the water and land line shut off, and the security system beeps every 45 seconds or so. There was a big storm one night and we found all this out. Luckily, we had purchased gallons of water, brought an Anker phone battery charger, and brought swimming earplugs. The other thing to be prepared for: you have to bring your own towels and there’s no laundry onsite--tricky for a lake house situation with kids. It took a lot of our packing space and we had to try to keep them clean and dry all week. Also, only one roll of paper towels and one garbage bag supplied, so it’s good to know to be prepared for that.

All in all, the house was very kid-friendly, very kitschy-cute, and ideally situated on the lake. The location couldn’t be beat, though it’s helpful to have a realistic expectation of the amenities for the price.

Very nice overall.

  • 4 of 5

Enjoyed our time at this property inside and outside. We were either sitting on the stairs to the lake during sunsets or in the sun room. Watched very little TV which is unusual for me. Had a great time. My one knock of the prooerty would be the the shower curtain makes the tub space less roomy by the way its hung. All in all that is not a deal breaker. Petty maybe... We will definitely stay there again on our next visit to Door County. Thanks to the owners for allowing us to have use of their home.
