About the host
Hosted by Rebecca
The seller of this home 'interviewed' several potential buyers before sitting down with your innkeeper, Rebecca.
The previous owner believed that the home, the Coastal Redwood tree growing in the front yard and historic charm should be appreciated and preserved. He finally found a resonating spirit in Rebecca who purchased in 2013.
Rebecca lived in the home for one year, making notes, drawing designs and formulating her plan. For her the important things were comfort, cleanliness, fun and the details, as well as keeping true to the historical values of an original and historic Gatlinburg home.
In 2014 the plan was finished and the work began. For comfort, the central heat and air system was replaced with a new high efficiency gas furnace. She had a new tank-less hot water system installed so her guests would never run out of hot water. New plumbing fixtures, new lighting and updated electrical, hardwired fire alarms, a gas fireplace and handicap accessible ramp were all important comfort features and were all completed in early 2015.
For cleanliness every surface in the home would be refinished. All of the walls and ceilings as well as the moldings and trims would be cleaned, sanded and refinished with a safe and non toxic period correct amber Shellac. This kept the distressed historic charm of the old growth pine panels as they were originally intended.
The floors throughout the whole house were removed and new flooring was installed. The flooring is non slip, no V.O.C. (volatile organic compounds) luxury vinyl wood tile.
Every effort was taken to select Micro-ban products; for a cleanliness you feel the moment you walk in.
On a playful and romantic note, she managed to fit a huge two-person Jacuzzi with two shower heads into a cozy master bathroom. She designed a dedicated home theater room, made the front porch ramp a place to converse and view the city below.
Now finished, all that is left is to share her dream with you

Why they chose this property
The location and charm of this historic Gatlinburg home just captured me. When I bought it, it was because I had to have it even though I wasn't sure what I would do with it. After living in it for a year, experiencing the beauty and excitement of Gatlinburg and The Great Smoky Mountains National Park, I decided it had to be shared. After a few months of remodeling and updating, our first guest got to experience all this home has to offer.
What makes this property unique
LOCATION-LOCATION-LOCATION!! It can not be overstated that the location of this home its most unique amenity. Very few vacation rentals in Gatlinburg share this ideal situation. While the location of The Redwood Retreat tops the list of its unique benefits, a few others have been built in.
The theater room has a 72 inch TV with surround sound, Bluray, Netflix, and an Xbox One. The living room has a gas fireplace in the original stone hearth, a huge reclining leather sectional, a TV with surround sound, cable, Netflix, and a Bluray player. The cozy master has a super comfy Kings Down mattress and the master bath has a 2 person whirlpool tub. The second bedroom has two sets of double-on-bottom bunk beds. Both rooms have TVs. Of course, there is a fully appointed kitchen and dining room. There is high-speed Wi-Fi throughout and endless hot water. Outside there is a patio with a large 7 person hot tub, charcoal grill, and an outdoor dining area with seating for 8. Parking is even easy; four full-size cars can fit in the driveway; though it’s a bit tight.
