Perfect Property, Great Location, Awesome Owner

  • 5 of 5

We were visiting the area for our son's Navy commissioning ceremony. The location was perfect for all the sights in Norfolk. You can hear the National Anthem each morning from the base across the bay. The house had everything we needed for a perfect family get together. The house was beautiful on the inside, right on the water. Lots of fun with ducks for the kids. We watched a sailboat race from the sun room and though our first day included a lot of rain, we had a great time. We enjoyed cooking together, eating together, playing family games in he sun room into the wee hours and walking on the nearby beach. We found sea glass and visited the sunset grill within walking distance up the road which was delicious! We did not hear the live music, but they have it almost every night. Mary was so helpful making sure we knew what all was around and worked with the cleaning crew so we could get in early and leave after check out time. Mary and her house were very special. She and the house attended to every detail for a great stay. We definitely recommend this property for holiday fun!

Owner's Response: Wow, thank you for sure a wonderful review. I'm so glad you had fun, even if it did rain some of the time. My husband's boat, the one with the yellow hull, won that race. I'm so glad you guys created some great memories together at our LIfe on a Sandbar. Mary.

Sweet Spot!

  • 5 of 5

"Life on a Sandbar" was peaceful and relaxing. Just what we needed to reconnect with college friends and unwind from a busy summer of non-stop work.

The home is very quaint and extremely well designed for function. Everything you need for cooking is available in a freshly renovated kitchen. They even have melamine dishes that can be used outside with no fear of breakage. The beds are quite comfortable with quality linens and closet space is plentiful. My 6'4" husband was thrilled that the bath towels actually circled his body. It is a very comfortable home ... crisply decorated while maintaining its rooted charm.

The beach on the Chesapeake Bay is a short walk, as is the Sunset Grill.

(Great food and fun locals!)

Most of our time was spent enjoying the patio ... watching the water, the Naval activities, and the ducks. A few small fish were caught and the kayaks and hammock got plenty of use.

Mary is a delightful homeowner. She was easy to contact and accommodating with our requests, while offering great suggestions for activities and dining. We would definitely return to this sweet spot if the opportunity arises.

Great home and perfect spot on the bay!

  • 5 of 5

This home is a perfect get -a-way and close to a lot of what Norfolk and Va Beach have to offer. We were on the kayaks within minutes of parking the car, and loved joining the ducks for a quick dip! The house is very well kept and we had all that we needed. Mary was a delight to talk to and she answered my many questions! Each night brought us on on the porch to watch the Navy helicopters, and we even saw a practice water rescue!!

Awesome!!

Fun out the back door

  • 4 of 5

We (family of four with kids 8 & 12 years old, and our family dog) spent 2 weeks here and enjoyed it. The house was recently renovated and updated (kitchen) with clean and nice furnishings throughout. The kids loved the beach & bay out the back door. The kayaks were fun, too. And everyone enjoyed watching all the Navy activity across the bay! It's also very convenient to the highway to travel all around -- Williamsburg, Virginia beach. If you trailer your boat, there's a boat ramp just down the street. Mary & Joe were delightful renters.

Clean and well appointed!

  • 5 of 5

Mary's home was a delightful surprise...clean, all we needed to feel at home, and hosts who ensured we were happy and well-informed. A local beach is a ten minute walk and another, with life guards, is only a few minutes drive from the home. Groceries and restaurants all readily available. Close to many great day trip destinations...D.C., Williamsburg, Virginia Beach. Many thanks to our hosts for working with our last minute reservation!

A great place to relax

  • 5 of 5

Our family had a wonderful week at Life on a Sandbar. Mary was wonderful! She was quick to answer questions and most accommodating. We so appreciated all her help and information about the sailboat races. Life on a Sandbar is pleasant and comfortable. Our family enjoyed visiting and eating together on the patio overlooking the bay and our daughters shared some special "sister time" together in the kayaks. We couldn't have asked for a nicer place for a relaxing time away. Thank you Mary for sharing your vacation home with us.
