About Tom or Connie Wise

We moved our family to cool Colorado from central Texas in l991. This was the most perfect place in the whole state. Tom is a farmer, rancher, builder, and outdoorsman. You can see all of these talents in the cabin he lovingly built on our place.

Tom or Connie Wise purchased this cabin in 1992

Why Tom or Connie Wise chose Southwest

When we decided to move our cattle operation from Texas to the western mountains, we looked for property all over Colorado, Wyoming and Montana. Our van broke down at the top of Red Mountain Pass, so we were forced to come to Montrose for a repair.

Wow! This was the place we were looking for. We went home, loaded up everything we owned in a stock trailer, and moved here. That was 23 years ago. We are so thankful our brakes went out.

What makes this cabin unique

The views are almost unbroken. There are trees, water, and lots of space. At the same time, Montrose is a great town, just close enough, not too close, with lots going on. Come check it out.

5 Stars +++

  • 5 of 5

Absolutely wonderful place to relax and enjoy nature - plenty of deer, turkeys, hummingbirds, bluebirds, and even 2 elk - What more could one want? Nice, quiet, and peaceful - no one bothered us. Was met by Connie, who showed us around, when we first arrived. After that, we were allowed to watch the wildlife at our leisure with no interruptions. It is close enough to other interesting places that we could take day trips during our week there, which allowed us to be back to sit on the front porch and watch the sunsets!

There was only one thing we would add to the inside; a TV downstairs for older folks with bad knees! Other than that, it is a very comfortable place to spend time!

After staying in several VRBOs, will we return? ABSOLUTELY! We didn't want to leave, so 'yes' we will be returning as soon as our schedule allows and it is available!

Thanks to Connie and Tom for providing this great place as a choice to people like us who travel to CO for the peace, quiet, wildlife, and beautiful scenery that we are not privileged to have in Central Texas!

Wonderful cabin and a great scenery

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was great. Everything you need is supplied! The owners were great. They are there if you need them, but leave you alone for your privacy. We brought our two miniature Schnauzers and there was a run for them next to the garage with a covered place for them to stay. We put them there when we took a ride and did some exploring.

The mountains were beautiful every way you look from the cabin. We were right next door to the Black Mountain National Park. Just beautiful!

There is a great porch on the front with two rocking chairs.

We loved our stay!!

I should add that Montrose is a pretty large city that has anything you may need.

Beautiful home and view!!!

  • 5 of 5

It was a lovely home with a beautiful view. The owners were very nice when they greeted us. Our dog loved the horses next door and the owners dog even came to play with her which was nice. There are several places to sit and take in the views. It was close enough to town if you need something and close to Black Canyon of the Gunnison park. They had everything we needed including our choice of charcoal or gas grills out back. They refunded our deposit the same day we left. Will definitely recommend this place and come back again ourselves!

Close to Black Canyon of the Gunnison Natl. Park

  • 4 of 5

The only reason I give this cabin a 4 instead of a 5 is because of the road leading to the cabin. The description does indicate that there is a gravel road to the cabin, but having gravel wouldn't have been too much of an issue; but this road is like a "wash board" a lot of the 4 miles in. The cabin and surrounding property was very peaceful. We were only there two nights, but felt very comfortable. Was a very scenic setting. Quiet. Saw quite a few deer, foxes, horses next door, bird, mountains. Our boys loved the upstairs area. Wifi was great. The whole place looks very nice. We did, however, make our plans according to the road in. For example, we wouldn't come back for the night until we were sure that we didn't want to go into town or some where else that day. Black Canyon National Park is amazing!!!
