Fantastic family retreat!

  • 5 of 5

We booked Brannock Bay for a combination 60th birthday and 30th wedding anniversary for our step dad/parents and we couldn't have been more pleased. We loved how quiet and peaceful it was out on the water and not to mention the amazing sunsets! In 40 years, I don't remember my mother ever not wanting to get OUT of a pool before, but she loved the pool (we all did!). We had been going to the Jersey Shore for as long as I can remember, and this was such a nice change of pace away from the crowds. Definitely recommend!

We had such a great time at this beautiful property. The house is so charming and it was very clean. The pool was very relaxing, and we loved using the kayaks and canoe. We can't wait to go back!

A Nice Place to Relax!

  • 4 of 5

Overall we had a wonderful 4 nights at this "farm house" property. The best parts were :

using the pool-very clean with lots of floats, seating and umbrellas available to set up;

crabbing and relaxing on the pier; watched a sunrise there;

having every meal on the screened in back porch with an awesome view of the bay. On the last night we steamed crabs using all the provided supplies for just that and ate on the pic-nic table;

nice short drive to Cambridge-liked being away from the town a bit;

we all slept comfortably;

the lawn was well kept; we brought a Corn Hole set and put it between the porch and the water-perfect place to hang out before dinner;

the house had a lot of farm-house charm;

It was a pleasant, clean, and relaxing place for our family of 4 (two teenage kids) to spend time together. We would book a vacation here again. The owner was very easy to deal with and friendly.

But...there were several things we did not like about the house that I will mention - none are deal breakers for us, but thoughts to consider:

1) no great place indoors to hang out as a family - the room with the TV was the only place and it was difficult for all 4 of us to get comfortable-best seat is the recliner. Maybe different furniture with more seating & more comfortable seating-at least an additional sofa or love seat. We were happy the weather allowed us to be on the screened in porch and outside most of the time and were content there. The dining room felt a little too formal and uncomfortable for our liking and we hardly used it. It was the only place indoors to play cards/board games.

2) The oven put out a tremendous amount of heat and we could not tell when it was preheated or how/if the broiler worked.

3) The glass storm door from the kitchen to the screened in porch was cumbersome.

4) Along with the country charm comes some inconveniences (I guess you would say): the floor plan is odd and the floors are not level.

5) The screened in porch is quite narrow and there are spots where bugs can come in. We did not have a big problem with the bugs thank goodness!

Like I said, it was a wonderful vacation. I mention these items only as a metter of information that might be helpful to future renters or possible the owner.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your four star review and we are glad you enjoyed your stay. Some of your suggestions will be addressed while others are just part of the charm of a 1875 farm house

A charming 19th century farmhouse with fantastic water access and updates only where it matters!

  • 5 of 5

After spotting this on VRBO, we had a good feeling this would be the perfect place for the extended family to celebrate our son's first birthday! EVERY great expectation we had was utterly EXCEEDED, and we would definitely return if we can! We stayed for 5 days in mid Jun 2016 and probably should have stayed for at least a couple more days; it was hard to leave this peaceful paradise.

The house is an 1875 farmhouse with fantastic character! The owners have preserved as much as possible, with the old wood floors and hook & latch doors fastened with handmade nails intact. The only things that have been updated are what a modern family cherishes: windows, bathrooms, and kitchen. The screened in porch was spacious and perfect for enjoying meals in the breeze without worrying about any bugs. All of the windows let in the nice cool air during our stay so the temperature in the house was perfect at all times.

Located in the Neck District of Cambridge right on Brannock Bay which is quite shallow (less than a kayak's oar length deep and typically 2-3 feet). It's a pleasant 25 min drive from the main drag in Cambridge with stores like Walmart to stock up on supplies and bait. The local restaurants are delicious!

2016 has been a very good year for bluecrabs, but the amount in the waters by the farmhouse was exceptional. Clear and calm waters made it really easy to see them hanging out in their burrows. As someone used to netting them as they swim, or getting my fishing bait stolen unseen by them, it was really cool to see where they actually live, mate (we saw many huge males with females in burrows), and eat! All told, we caught ~60 keeper males in our short time there - we steamed crabs every day of our stay, to the point we took some home with us, because we could not keep up!

Amenities: the salt water pool was awesome. Plenty of pool toys in their shed kept three generations of our family occupied in fun. There are crab nets, a crab pot, traps, and a neat floating bucket to keep the crab fresh in the water available for your use. The two kayaks and canoe were special treats! They made exploring the beautiful bay convenient and THAT CANOE glided effortlessly through the water. Inside is a water chiller which was a very nice touch (their well water is quite tasty).

What really made this house special is that the highly responsive owners actually live there for part of the year, so any supply you might need is logically stored where you would expect it.

Peacefulness and relaxation on the Chesapeake

  • 5 of 5

This house was perfect for us... We live in the Cambridge area and we needed a nice large house for wedding guests traveling from afar. Everything was exactly what we could have asked for and more. Very comfortable and beautifully restored farm house with all the charm. If you are looking for some vacation rest and relaxation on the Chesapeake, this is the place.

Oustanding in every way!!

  • 5 of 5

Absolutely beautiful home ! Extremely clean and well kept. Landscaping is fantastic and we saw many deer roaming the property. Quiet and serene.

We traveled from Florida for The Ironman event, which was rescheduled for two weeks later due to weather, after our arrival. Tim, the owner, was easy to get ahold of and quickly agreed to letting us reschedule our stay at his home for two weeks later. He graciously allowed us to stay the night after driving for 2 days straight and told us to take our time leaving the next day . We spent 5 days at the home when we returned 2 weeks later.

Very comfortable beds and plenty of privacy within the home if needed. The covered lanai is beautiful to relax in and watch the water and sunset.

The area neighborhood is pleasant with hardly any traffic which made it perfect for walking, running and biking

I highly recommend this vacation rental to anyone looking to spend some quiet time in a beautiful setting that is only a 20 minute drive away from downtown Cambridge .

I can not say enough about the owners , genuine , caring people .
