About this property
Prinsenboat Studio, house boat on the 17th centuary Prinsengracht of Amsterdam
The Prinsenboat Studio
Create a memory of your stay in Amsterdam on board the Prinsenboot that you will cherish forever.
We take pride in offering a residence that is warm, inviting, comfortable and romantic. From the first day of your arrival at The Prinsenboat to your last day with us, we will do our utmost to ensure your experience lives up to your expectations.
If you are celebrating a special event such as a birthday, anniversary or reunion, we can help make it a unique experience. You will immediately notice the difference between The Prinsenboat Studio and an Amsterdam hotel.
Children are thrilled to stay on The Prinsenboat. Maybe even more than adults. They are fascinated by living on a house boat where they can experience life on the water and enjoy watching the waterfowl and passing boats.
The Prinsenboat Studio consists of a very comfortable and romantic Studio of 27m2 from where you have a water view of the historic 17th century Prinsengracht with its patrician houses from the Dutch Golden Age. When opening the large sliding windows you immediately feel the vibrations of the Prinsengracht.
The canals were, and still are, fundamental to Amsterdam, of great cultural and historical importance. In 2010, the World Heritage Committee decided to add the 17th century canals area in Amsterdam to the UNESCO World Heritage List. The Prinsenboat is located, in the Prinsengracht, in the midst of all this beauty.
We had to say goodbye to the old Prinsenboat but we succeeded in building a new Prinsenboat with all modern conveniences; such as floor heating, your own private bathroom with shower, toilet, and wash basin, while preserving the old exotic features such as the opium bed and the wood carvings.
The location of the Prinsenboat couldn't be more perfect; all major attractions of the city Center are a 10 or 15 minute walk away; Museumplein, Anne Frankhuis, Magere Brug, Hermitage museum, Heineken brewery, the trendy Albert Cuypmarkt, Bloemenmarkt, Waterloopleinmarkt etc. Nightlife is also within walking distance; from the clubs on Leidseplein and Rembrandtplein to the famous Gay Venue street; Reguliersdwarsstraat. No need for a taxi after a night out.
The Prinsenboat Studio is part of The Prinsenboat and offers you a private studio of 27 m2 with a breakfast bar with fridge, coffee and tea making facilities, microwave, toaster, cutlery, cups, plates etc. Everything you need for a relaxed breakfast . In our experience, our guests prefer their privacy more than being woken up early in the morning for breakfast. Breakfast is not included. Neither do we provide breakfast items.
Unfortunately, the strict rules of the city of Amsterdam prohibit us from having a kitchen in The Prinsenboat Studio, which means that we cannot offer you cooking facilities. You have no stove and no sink. Fortunately, around the corner, in the Utrechtsestraat, there is a wide variety of nice international restaurants. In the nearby, trendy, Albert Cuyp area you will find, next to the street market, also great authentic Surinamese dishes and a wide range of reasonably priced eateries.
The sleeping area with an antique king size teak bed, 160 x 2.00m. is separated from the rest of the studio by a large antique wood carved panel from Indonesia. The legs of the bed are huge dragons; chase the dragon (smoking opium) ……… We found it in Indonesia, in what was said, an opium kit. The couch is extendable to a bed of 1.40 x 2.00 m. And is suitable for two persons.
The Prinsenboat Studio has a maximum capacity of 4 persons. We have a minimum of 3 nights. (sometimes 2 nights as an exception, the calendar will automatically show what if an exception is possible.)
Wake up in the morning to a spectacular view of the canal of the Prinsengracht, take a walk through Amsterdam, come home at the end of the day in the tranquility of your private studio on the water, relax and watch life on the Amsterdam canals pass by.
Experience historic Amsterdam in a very special way; live on the water! Welcome to The Prinsenboat Studio

Studio was very comfortable and located in a great area. Being able to watch the boats going by was very enjoyable. Would have liked to have warning about the King's day celebration, especially with regard to not having access to public transportation. Would definitely reccomend the Prinsenboat Studio to anyone lookin for a unique place to stay in Amsterdam.
Excellent location and perfect place to hang out and enjoy the activity on the canal. Totally recommend staying here!

Liked: Location
Disliked: Communication, listing accuracy
A very poor entry for a couple in their 80’s, difficult to step down to unlock the door. Didn’t realize the owner lived in half the boat.Had to wash dishes in the bathroom sink, could have had better accommodations for less money !

Dear guest,
I think it is a good thing you still travel, like you said, a couple in their 80ties but I am afraid you are confusing the responsibility of the property/property owner with your own responsibility which is reading the description of the property you rent.
Also there is a difference between things which are out of our reach: rules of the City of Ams, explained in the description of the listing, as not being allowed to have a kitchen in the B&B.
Your complaint; dishes in the bathroom
The fact that there is no kitchen but a breakfast bar is clearly stated in the description of the Studio in the listing as well under the chapter kitchen in the listing.
Your complaint; The owner lives in his half of the boat
You clearly do not understand the concept of a Bed and Breakfast; a B&B is part of the property where the owner also lives. Else it would not be a B&B.
Also here the City of Ams obligates the owner of the B&B to live there.
Of all your complaints the only thing which has directly to do with the boat is the stairs to the boat, 3 steps, a fact which is also informed in the listing.
To conclude;
I certainly do think we do not deserve your bad review. My advise to you; when renting a property, please read the description.
Last but certainly not least; you forgot to mention we were able to forward your check in from 15.00, our regular check in time, to 10.15 so you did not have to drag around your luggage. A fact you were really concerned about.
Best regards, Peter
The houseboat was clean and in a great location - steps away from the tram, restaurants and shops. It is a novelty, of course, to stay in a houseboat on the canal and watch all the boats go by right outside our window! It was as described - do make note that this is no coffee, shower soap or shampoo provided. There was a little mix-up at check-in but it worked out. Peter was very nice when we met him. I recommend staying here for a unique experience!

Thank you for your review.
You were very nice guests but I would like to clarify a few points with regards to your review;
1."Mix up" at check in: you were waiting outside for somebody to meet you outside. In the email with all the information, about arrival time and check in,
it says; please ring the bell.... There is a big sign next to the entrance which says BELL....
2. "No soap, shampoo provided": It is prohibited by law in The Netherlands to provide small hotel bottles of soap, shampoo etc.
Which is because of sustainability and personally I think a very good thing. Too much plastic, too much pollution!!
This is explained the our famous green welcome book.
3. "No coffee": It is very clearly stated in the listing on VBRO; we do not provide breakfast, neither do we provide breakfast items.
A truly unique experience. Right in the middle of a quiet part of Amsterdam Oud West, with easy walking to attractions like Dam, the Rijksmusem, Vondelpark, Anne Frank Huis, and more via tram. Restaurants very close by, including many excellent ones. You'll make canal tours jealous as they pass by in the frequent rain!Make sure you communicate well and often about delays in arrival and departure. We had both and should have done a better job.

Great guests.
One iittle correction; The Prinsenboat is right in the centre of Amsterdam on the historical Prinsengracht canal.
Not in Oud West…….
It was a wonderful idyllic stay in beautifully maintained houseboat, with a charming and interesting owner who we had the opportunity to chat with. Loved every minute!
Wonderful stay in iconic Amsterdam location. Close to city center, and right on Tram line 4. Peter was a wonderful host. Ask him to recommend his favorite Indonesian restaurant,
Pefectly presented, orderly run accommodation, clean , well located , friendly, welcoming, helpful information given.. ...a very enjoyable stay, suit a relaxed quite break
PERFECT. PERFECT. PERFECT! The location is close enough but far enough away. Restaurants are close, tram stop is 50 yards away. 10/10 would stay again!!
We enjoyed our stay but if you have any problems with your legs it is a bit difficult to get in and out. It is a great place for watching the tour boats go by on the canal. Our host was very personable.
