We have had a wonderful time staying at Hanalei Bay Resort here on Kauai. The uniqueness of Kauai along with the excellent location of the resort had made this trip of ours very very memorable.

I think we would like to recommend this resort for our friends as well as consider our future Kauai stay location.

Thanks so much for providing us wonderful vacation.

Very Disappointing.

We own a timeshare at this resort and never trade it. It is a great place and the Timeshare units are very well appointed and pleasant. We were looking to share our very pleasant experience here with our children and grandchildren. So we rented this from June 25 through July 2, 2017. This one is a privately owned unit which is an example of living in the past. Lots of deferred maintenance. It has not been updated since it was built some 30+ years ago. It is advertised as sleeping 6 but two are in the loft which is too warm to sleep in. We tried to sleep in the loft the first night but ended up sleeping on the couch. It has a small table with two chairs. The kitchen is called a Kitchenette for good reason. It is equipped with a dorm sized refrigerator, two burner electric stove and microwave. When my children moved into it the main room fan was not working (we called for repair but it was never fixed), there was open wiring, the first step of the stairs to the loft was loose, one of the outlets in the loft was loose and coming out of the wall, the bathroom door is a mess, they found a set rat trap behind the couch, and to top it all off there is a view of the pool and mountains but not of the bay. We were one floor below and a world apart. They ate, gathered, and did everything but sleep in the time share unit. My son volunteered to take the loft because there was only one of him and he could comfortable sleep on the couch.

My wife and I went to see the realtor personally twice. The second time we met with a responsible party and they sent a repair man that showed up in the evening two days before we were to leave and told my children it would take about a day and a half to fix only the most egregious problems. They said they would do the repair after they left.

The management company agreed to give us a 10% credit from the rental fee but not their fees. Big Deal. I have pictures but there is no place in this to post them.

Owner's Response: Aloha John. Since you didn’t actually stay in the condo we are surprised that you wrote the review instead of your family who did use the unit. When you contacted us about your displeasure with the condo, the only things you told us about were that it wasn’t updated like your timeshare unit, and that the kitchenette wasn’t sufficient to cook meals for a family of five. When we pointed out that we list the unit as having a kitchenette, you told us you hadn’t understood what that was when you booked, and didn’t look at the picture that clearly shows a two-burner cooktop with no oven. The refrigerator is 3.3 cubic feet, not a dorm fridge, and fits in the kitchenette. You contacted us a few days later to complain about the “open wiring”, which we explained was the TV cable that runs along the wall and which was installed, as with all units in the resort, after the the building was constructed. We don’t know why you decided to move the couch, but there was a mouse trap behind it because a previous guest reported a mouse, although none was ever found. You told us about the loose step and fan, so we sent someone that very same day to fix the stair and replace the fan. You didn’t report any problem with the bathroom door. Considering you are comparing an economical, privately owned home that is half the price of any hotel unit in the resort, to a smaller (no loft) timeshare that costs tens of thousands of dollars PLUS weekly maintenance fees that cost more than everything that you paid for the entire stay at this unit, and which we then discounted an additional 10%, I’d say you got an amazing bargain! (…which, after all, is exactly why you booked this unit to begin with.)

The Hanalei Bay resort is great, however this unit needs upgrades.

The price was right, however the carpet has stains, the kitchen is in need of updating and the beds are not the best. We did find a live mouse in the unit as well. Fully understand that we were in the tropics, however, the mouse in the unit was a huge problem for us. We will NOT choose this unit again.

Owner's Response: Aloha Katie, and mahalo for your review. We're glad you enjoyed the resort and we're sorry that you were disappointed with the condo. We had to wait for a break between guests to clean the carpet, but that has now been addressed. As you mention, this is very economical unit, with a modest but clean and functional decor and kitchen. We did replace the chair that you complained about when you were here, but the exterminator found no sign of the mouse you reported.

This condo was great for my little family on our trip.

  • 5 of 5

The condo is nothing fancy, but it is clean, comfortable, spacious enough for six people, and the view is BEAUTIFUL. It overlooks the pool, and has some great sunset peaks of Nepali. The grounds of the resort are gorgeous. The small kitchen has two small burners and a mini fridge, so was nice for us to keep eggs, milk, and fruit for our kiddo.

What a tropical place to stay in paradise!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at your resort condo for a week in Feb. We were completely comfortable and really enjoyed the short walk to the beach everyday. The view from the condo balcony is spectacular! The grounds are kept meticulously tropical and manicured. We loved the Happy Talk lounge and enjoyed the music in the evenings. We would definitely recommend your place to friends!

Absolutely Fabulous

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I loved this condo. The views were truly spectacular and the entire Hanalei Bay Resort was just perfect. I actually think the pool and the grounds are nicer at the Hanalei Bay Resort than the St. Regis next door. This condo was more space than we needed for just the two of us, and would accommodate well a family or two couples with the lock off unit. There is not a full kitchen , but it worked perfectly for us to be able to eat breakfast and lunch in the condo and then we went out for dinner. Overall, this was a really great value in an absolutely beautiful location.
