The cottage is spacious and has been extensively renovated and modernised during 2016. You enter the bright and modern accommodation via an open plan living and dining area. It has a comfortable sofa and chairs, with a dining table and chairs for candle-lit dining.

The two shower rooms are fully tiled, each equipped with a basin, toilet, large walk in shower and heated towel rail.

A cot (please bring own linen) and high chair are available. Please inform us at the time of booking if you wish to use these.

The cottage has central heating throughout and also benefits from one metre thick stone walls keeping it cool in the summer and cosy in winter.

There is a garden/sitting area to both the front and rear. The east facing front garden is ideal for breakfast while the west facing rear garden catches the afternoon and evening sun, perfect for evening cocktails and dinner. Both front and rear gardens are equipped with a table and chairs to allow for leisurely outdoor dining. In the rear garden there is a large umbrella and BBQ. There are also sun-loungers for relaxation.

Mesves is a very friendly traditional French village with two bars and a well stocked shop which also sells bread and croissants. There is a weekly cheese van in the village square, a mobile pizza van, a chicken rotisserie on Sundays in the summer months and lots of lovely restaurants locally.

The area offers outdoor activities to suit a wide variety of tastes. These include wine and cheese tasting trips (a must), canoeing on the Loire, cycling along the velo route, fishing on the Loire, walking, horse riding, golf and visiting local chateaux along "La Route Jacques-Coeur", as well as the many beautiful gardens open to the public in the area. Notes:
The area is famous for its wine. Vineyards nearest to the cottage are Pouilly Fume and Sancerre. Also nearby you will be able to sample the wines from Coteaux du Giennois, Mentou-Salon, Quincy, Reuilly, Chateaumeillant and of course Cotes de la Charite from La Charite. The vineyards are open six days a week for sales and tasting. The delicious goats cheese, Crottin de Chavignol, is produced locally and goes exceptionally well with the local wines. Chateaux and Gardens: We are in the middle of the chateaux route "La Route Jacques-Coeur" which offers 16 chateaux and historical sites; this together with the abundance of beautiful gardens available locally means you will never lack something to do. Fishing: the locals are passionate fishermen, so why not join them? There is a huge choice of picturesque spots along the Loire. Local towns: La Charite sur Loire, Sancerre, Vezalay, Bourges and Nevers are all beautiful towns well worth a visit.

Immaculate

  • 4 of 5

Immaculately presented. Everything looked so clean and welcoming on arrival, with a lovely touch of fresh flowers. The fresh baguette, jam, butter and wine, etc. was very much enjoyed. With the most comfortable, very large bed and the shutters keeping the rooms lovely and cool meant a lovely retreat at the end of each day exploring the surrounding area. Having outside space both front and back of the property meant you can make the most of either the sun or shade depending on your preference. Everything provided at the property ensured a most relaxing stay. The use of the bikes and the information provided by Jackie on the cycle routes and places to visit were great. Can thoroughly recommend a visit to Guedelon recreating the building of medieval castle with the method of the time and Bourges cathedral was stunning. Lots to see and do - had a fabulous week.

Gorgeous cottage in a pleasant village near the Loire and vineyards

  • 5 of 5

An old cottage that has recently been renovated to a very high standard, comfortably furnished, good shower rooms and well equiped. Thick stone walls and shutters meant the rooms were cool even during July. Two secluded terraces, front and back were perfect for breakfast and evening relaxing respectively.

The shop is small but well stocked, a patisserie van arrived daily, cheese and pizza vans weekly, so shopping for essentials or local produce is easy.

Jackie provided a very comprehensive list of local restaurants and attractions which was most helpful.

We cycled or walked from the door, also taking the car to go further afield - there is loads for an active couple to see and do.

We loved the cottage and the area - pity we were only there for a week.

Fantastic property, location and host.

  • 5 of 5

Jackie our host went out of her way to ensure we had a wonderful stay over Christmas. The property is at a very high standard with a wonderful kitchen which we managed to cook a full xmas dinner. Bathrooms are lovely and the bedrooms are also very nice with quality beds and bedding.

Location is ideal to visit many areas within 15-25 mins drive and our village has a well stocked Proxi market.

Couldn't recommend more highly.

Gorgeous cottage in picturesque location

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed four nights at this delightful cottage last week, and it surpassed all expectations. The cottage itself is pristine, with lovely spaces outside and inside to dine and really gorgeous decor. The village of Mesves is charming and rustic, with 2 bars and and good local shop. It is also walking distance to the river and we were lucky enough to swim in the Loire as the weather was sublime. With a car or bike (amazingly bikes were provided) you can explore neighbouring towns, La Charite was gorgeous as was St Sur (sorry if spelling is wrong!). We did a lovely bike ride along a river path as well as an afternoon of canoeing which I would really recommend and the current carries you along so gentle excercise! The town of Sancere is also worth a visit and close by with lovely cafes and wine shops. We definitely want to visit again, and next time will be sure to visit the many vineyards as recommend by the host but we ran out of time! Oh and before I forget they have a great BBQ at the house which was great for suppers outside. The host gave us loads of notes and recommendations for restaurants and things to do which were invaluable. All in all can't recommend this place more highly - and only a few hours from Paris makes it super convenient. We hope to return! Many thanks!

Lovely house in quiet village

  • 5 of 5

Lovely quiet location, very comfortable sitting/dining area. Good sized bedrooms and small but excellent shower rooms with lots of hot water.

Pretty outside eating area. Useful welcome pack on arrival with bottle of local wine.

Good for tennis, cycling and walking. Lots of nice restaurants one within walking distance (about a mile).Although we had our own bikes the ones at the house looked good.

Well placed for wine tasting!

I would fully recommend a visit.

Peaceful week near the Loire

  • 5 of 5

Really enjoyed our stay, the welcome pack was a nice touch. The property felt new, lovely and clean and having two shower rooms with toilets was very handy, and the big bed was very comfy.

The village is quiet but very nice, and having access to the bikes meant we could take advantage of the local Velo routes.

La Charite a few minutes by car is lovely with bars, restaurants, etc.

Anyone staying here in this beautiful part of France will enjoy.
