About Fiona Aroney
Hi my name is Fiona Aroney. Most of my childhood was spent between Kythera, Athens in Greece and in Sydney Australia. I practised as a criminal lawyer for 12 years as both a prosecutor and defence solicitor in Sydney. After a much needed life style change I decided to move back to Kythera in 2016 and restore my families heritage.
Why Fiona Aroney chose Cythera
The holiday home is traditionally known as a 'Kamara'. It was built by my great-grandparents and has been handed down through the generations. As a family, our most fond memories have been spending time at the Kamara at Diakofti beach. The endless summer days, spending time with family and friends, and eating lots of good food.
What makes this House unique
This house is unlike any other as it is right on the water. It is literally built on the sand and you are about 3 meters from water.
100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date.
Can't be closer to the Sea
Exactly as described, 7 steps from the living room and you're in the water !
Reason for 4 stars (instead of 5): quite some plastic waste on the beach and communication from housekeeper did not work (we we're kicked out earlier than agreed, on very, very short notice)
Unfortunately, Kythera ( and all the Ionian Islands ) was hit by typoon type weather before Markus came to stay on the island. This typhoon hit the island for a week and caused the seas to tumble, power outages, debris, tree branches etc.. to be blown all over the island. Literally the day that Markus arrived, was the first day of calm weather. Because of the terrible weather the council was called to urgent matters and being a small island, there are no locally available private cleaning services for any beaches.
Markus was orginally advised that all departure times were at 12 noon. However as there was no bookings after him at the time he was allowed to exit on a later time. A few days into Markus's stay we received another booking and the house manager tried to contact Markus on number of occasions to advise that on his departure date he woudl have to leave on time at 12 noon instead of a later time. However the house manager could not get hold of Markus as his phone was not contactable. The house manager arrived a few hours earlier to the house to advise of the resechuled departure time. However, the date of Markus's departure always remained the same. The time was only altered from a later check out to the original check out time. I understand that this shortening of time would of been less than favourable to any guest, however there was no other way of contacting Markus before the departure date if his phone was not contactable.
Please note that during the Winter, Autumn and Spring months the Island is quite and the Taverns and shops closest to the beach will be closed. However, the shops and taverns up in the villages will be open. The Island is just as beautiful during what is considered the 'off seasons', however it is just must more quite.
