Perfect cabin with amazing views!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 5 (2 adults and our 3 small children) stayed in this lovely cabin for almost 2 weeks, and we loved every minute of our time here! The large grassy yard with the pond, barn and deck were perfect for our little ones to play in, and Peter and Val (and their super friendly dogs which our girls were in love with) were fabulous hosts. We can't wait to get back to Mars Hill to visit again!

Wonderful weekend and Thanksgiving stay!!

  • 5 of 5

We couldn't have asked for a better place to stay for Thanksgiving weekend. My husband and I really enjoyed the cabin, the view,

and its location. Also Peter and Val were so kind and accommodating! I really wasn't ready to go home. If you're looking for a great place to stay in the mountains, but don't want to be too far from Asheville, this is your place. Our 2 dogs really enjoyed it as well. Thank you Val and Peter!

Amazing views and lovely cabin with a story

  • 5 of 5

This cabin and our experience in it far exceeded our wishes. From the moment we drove onto the property through the barn until we honked our way down the mountain, we were awed with the mountain views and delighted by Peter and Val and their unending hospitality. I think there is nothing they wouldn't have done or gotten for us if we needed it. We loved the area, the people, restaurants, nearby small towns, Tess and Denby and the wonderful stories we heard. Our favorite times were morning coffee and evening drinks on the porch looking out on the mountain ranges (7). We turned on the TV the first night we were there then not again for the next four days. There is much to do in the area even for older folks. The cabin and its history are very interesting and we look forward to returning again, hopefully many times.

Very Pleased

Great location. Short drive to downtown Asheville, but far enough away to feel secluded. House was clean and welcoming.

Gary and I spent 3 weeks in Peter and Val's rustic cabin in the mountains in Mars Hill. The vistas from the cabin were mesmerizing; it is an unobstructed view of mountain ranges, trees, the red barn and pond - a glorious natural setting. We never tired of sitting on the front porch, sharing the day's events reading, eating or watching the mountains, which were especially dramatic in the evenings with the sun setting behind us (cabin faces slightly south and east).

Each day we took trips to neighboring quaint towns and Asheville, the Biltmore, etc. it's an excellent home base, far enough (about 15 minutes to groceries, 30 minutes to Asheville) to feel unencumbered by the noise of the world.

Our hosts were excellent, available but almost invisible. They are lovely and personable people with a keen sense of the amount of solace we wanted. However, if you have the opportunity to spend any time at all with either Peter or Val, you will soon learn they are fascinating.

Along with the butterflies, dragonflies, many different types of birds and other creatures, we realize that there are ants in such a setting and therefore kept our food in the fridge. It is not a problem when you take preventive measures.

Watching the full moon rise over the mountains was a once in a lifetime experience, it was HUGE!! And watching the lightening in the distant clouds with lightning bugs twinkling in the forest around us was magical.

Beautiful views, nice location, lovely owners

  • 4 of 5

The location of this cabin provided great access both to Asheville as well as the rafting companies along the French Broad River. We loved the view from the front porch - especially at night when the fireflies were blinking like crazy all over the valley. Pete the owner was really friendly and even brought his sweet dogs to play with our daughters and let them feed the goldfish in the pond. He also offered late checkout so we could come back for a shower after our rafting trip. The cabin itself was rustic and cute, and the amenities were great - well-stocked kitchen, plenty of towels. My only two pieces of constructive feedback are that 1) the beds weren't very comfortable and 2) there were ants in the kitchen such that we had to throw out a sleeve of bagels - I recommend putting EVERYTHING in the refrigerator. Nonetheless we really enjoyed the weekend and would certainly recommend to others.

Owner's Response: In March We replaced all the beds, with top of the line mattresses. and new bedding. At this time of the year we do have ants in the kitchen, so we provide a kitchen spray mainly for the garbage container. Perishable food should be kept in the refridgerator
