Beautifully peaceful

A stunning location with lots to do within an hour. Lovely pool for those hot sunny lazy days. I would thoroughly recommend.

Quiet relaxing location, nice swimming pool

Quiet, countryside property. Lovely swimming pool. Comfortable, well equipped gite. Good to have some English TV channels as well as French. The only disadvantage was that the Wi-Fi signal was poor in the first few days and then totally non-existent in the next week. There was also no phone signal so could not use internet at all for most of the time. It was about an hour’s drive to several interesting small towns, chateaux and caves. Local lake was nice for picnics and walks.

I’m glad you liked the accommodation and the setting. We have brochures with visits within 30 mins and then brochures for visits further afield. The mobile signal is beyond our control. In rural France we are getting 3G which is sufficient for laptops but we don’t have 4G for new mobile phones. We apologise for the inconvenience when our provider dropped the Wi Fi signal for the last 4 days of your visit which we are still investigating the cause. The good news is that they are making progress with laying fibre optic cables in the area so we are hopeful for 4G next year.

Séjour très agréable

Nous avons passé un très bon moment dans ce gîte. Alexandra et Chris nous ont accueilli à notre arrivée mais ont su se montrer discrets le temps de notre séjour. Le gîte est très fonctionnel et propre, le jardin magnifique. Petit séjour très reposant !

Top locatie

Geweldige locatie om tot rust te komen. De gite bestaat uit drie woningen en een zwembad gesitueerd in een grote tuin met prachtig uitzicht. De eigenaar geeft alle ruimte om te genieten. In het appartement is aan alles gedacht tot in het kleinste detail. Er ontbreekt niets; zelfs de BBQ staat geheel klaar en fietsen tot je beschikking. In de omgeving tal van mogelijkheden tot recreatie. Hier gaan we zeker nog een keer naar toe!

Our Trip to France

After a long day we arrived at the property which we found very easily. Chris and Alexandra met us with a warm welcome and took us to our home for the next week. First impressions were very good with every thing that we needed for a comfortable stay in the Gite. The large bedroom had a king size bed and a super on suite bathroom with a large shower which is a bonus in any place when away from home. The sitting room/ kitchen was well stocked with cutlery, crockery, glasses and cooking utensils with a nice modern cooker available to cook meals. A settee, comfy armchair and Sky TV were used when the weather turned, but most time was spent in the large expansive garden, grounds and beautiful swimming pool. It was great to sit out outside the Gite and eat, drink and take in the fantastic setting. All together we had a fantastic time with nice French and English neighbours, super hosts which we played French boules with the last night and a beautiful tranquil setting. I would certainly recommend this Gite to anyone.

A fantastic, relaxed and well organised property

We started our honeymoon by relaxing at this property and taking in the surrounding area. Chris and Alexandra couldn't have been more welcoming or accomodating. We had peaceful days by the pool, interesting days out and even an afternoon canoeing on the lake nearby. A truly fantastic venue and with some great hosts. I dare say we will be back again.

a very nice little Gite ideal for 2, bedroom and bathroom very well thought out, the kitchen area adequate although the addition of a microwave would be advantageous, very quiet and rural setting, good walks and great cycling countryside albeit very hilly. overall a nice place for a few days break. Owners very welcoming.

Dear Franz, Thank you for choosing to stay with us. I'm glad you enjoyed your holiday and the peaceful, restful surroundings. The bed is comfortable but it is a double with a king size duvet. You certainly saw a lot of the many attractions in the area. There is cell phone reception but it is, as you say, inconsistent in rural France. The France Telecom technicians are still working on the wifi signal after the storm damage. Hopefully it will go back to normal soon. Thanks for taking the time to write a positive review. Alexandra

Relaxing stay

Well equipped gite with lovely big bedroom and excellent shower room. Very comfortable. Pool and pool area are clean and well kept as are grounds. Very welcoming owners. If you want peace and quiet this is the place and the skies at night are awesome.

Peace! and excellent value.

Accommodation was was very clean and tidy, and ready for our unannounced early arrival. Facilities inside the gite were modern and practical, although a basic microwave would have been useful. The bed was comfortable and the well appointed shower room more than adequate. Decor throughout was tastefully completed. There were outside patio areas for the gite occupants with table chairs etc. in very nicely planted sections. The pool was excellent, immaculately clean, and with sunbeds/ umrellas etc available. The grounds were well kept, with an abundance of fruit trees and bushes from which we were encouraged to 'forage' from. (We made fruit parcels for the barbecue, from brambles, red currants, apples and pears from the site). The gites were secluded, but provided access by car to many interesting places in the locality. The Lac de Rouffiac, was a short walk away, and one day we decided to walk around it. It took about an hour and a half, but we did stop for a beer at the bar/restaurant on the far side of the lake. Our hosts, Chris and Alexandra were always accessible for advice and assistance, but also allowed their guests privacy. We also had many very pleasant and interesting 'chats' with Alexandra's in-laws who lived on the site. (Mary recommended a restaurant run by an Irish/English couple, where we had an excellent lunch) One outstanding memory, was of sitting outside with our friends ( next door gite) with a few glasses of wine, watching the shooting stars, and seeing a number of fireflies make an appearance in the surrounding vegetation. (No! it wasn't the wine!!) Although we usually like to discover new areas, we would book here again.

Your hosts Chris & Alexandra Billing. Gites de Rouffiaguet opened in 2007 with a few guests but really took off in 2008. We meet lots of lovely people from young couples to empty nesters! We have no control over the climate but we can offer a warm welcome and comfortable stay. We love living here all year. It takes a while to get used to the slower pace of life but not that long! It is so nice here that we haven't got round to exploring the rest of France!
We are both from England. I moved here with my first husband and his mother Mary and partner John in 2003. Sadly Stephen died suddenly in 2004. Chris joined me here when we married in 2006. I have a daughter and son and five grandchildren. Chris has a son and daughter and a granddaughter.

My first husband Stephen and I used to holiday in France with our children. We had a caravan and usually headed to the Atlantic coast to chill out for 3 weeks. Stephen was stressed with the management side of teaching. We decided to move to France but we didn't want to live on the coast. We chose the Dordogne for it's peaceful, gently rolling countryside which is popular with British holiday makers.
We came house hunting one weekend in June 2002. A property near Limoges seemed to meet our requirements but was too much of a wreck! The estate agent took us to a few more which were not suitable and then suddenly turned up the lane to Rouffiaguet. It had just come on the market so there were no details yet. It ticked all the boxes as far as the accommodation was concerned. A habitable house for us, detached barn for his mother Mary & John, a large intact barn for the business. Later we discovered several tourist attractions which hadn't been on our criteria! We bought it in Jan 2003 and spent each school holiday moving over with a 7 ton lorry. We moved on 23rd July, the day after the end of term! The locals made us very welcome.
Sadly Stephen died of a heart attack in 2004 at the age of 48. We moved with the intention of staying for life and all felt rooted here. Stephen had done so much of the conversion work, we wanted to stay and finish it for him. I was thanking God for finding this wonderful location for us the week before Stephen died so I carried on praising God and trusting Him. Mary and John moved from the house into the Porcherie May 2005, when it was finished.
I met Chris who I had worked with in Bedford. He had also suffered a bereavement. We married in 2006 and he joined us out here and we are living happily ever after!

Lac Rouffiac is just at the bottom of the lane so you can walk to the beach or watch the wake boarding. As we are surrounded by fields there is no light pollution so you can star gaze or watch the glow worms. There is minimal traffic noise. There are a variety of caves to visit on hot days or a showery day. The chateaux vary from stabilised ruins, to posh stately homes all with different styles. It is not a case that once you have seen one you have seen them all! Plenty of Farmers markets and old medieval towns and villages to delight the photographer in you!
