About Gary Case

My husband Gary and I live near Buffalo, NY and own a floor covering store in Lockport NY. Nancy grew up 12 miles north of Penn Yan and is familiar with life in the Finger Lakes. We started renting a cottage on Waneta Lake in 1992 and by 2000, we were ready to buy a place of our own, and you'll find us there most weekends during the summer down the lake from the Dragonfly Inn.

Gary Case purchased this house in 2006

Why Gary Case chose Seneca Lake

We bought this property in 2006 because we saw the potential that this house offered people who wanted to vacation with a large group. Thus The Dragonfly Inn was born. Loving the area as we do, we have had large gatherings ourselves at the cottage, so we know it works!

We also fell in love with the covered ceder porch, large enough for adults to lounge while the kids play.

What makes this house unique

Our cottage, in addition to having access to all fishing and water sports, is close to dozens of wineries, The Windmill outdoor market (Saturdays only), Watkins Glen Motor Speedway, Corning Glassworks, Curtis Wright museum, and festivals happening throughout the summer at neighboring lakes and villages.

Girls only Wine Weekend

  • 5 of 5

Absolutely loved this house. Went on a weekend trip with 17 women to enjoy the Seneca Wine and Cheese weekend. Had plenty of space for all of us. Lots of bedrooms and bathrooms and even some private nooks if you needed some quiet time. Beautiful view of the lake and plenty of outside sitting. The owner was very helpful with some of my questions. Would definitely hang out here again.

Great upstate NY experience

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at The Dragonfly! There was 18 of us total and plenty of room. We wanted to experience the lake life and that's exactly what we got. The lake was absolutely beautiful to swim in, go tubing, waterski and fish. Although we happen to be there during some 90 degree days and there is no air conditioning, we did survive. The lake air and fans in the windows helped to cool it down. An absolute great upstate NY experience!

It was a nice sized home with many bedrooms and the location was great.

  • 4 of 5

Our extended family loved staying of Waneta lake and this house fit our needs perfectly. The lake was quiet and smaller, so it was warm for swimming. Other large lakes are close by for water sports. There are wineries and restaurants close by as well. I hope we are able to come back next year.

Great place and location!

  • 4 of 5

If you have a big group this is the place to stay! Spent last week here with 21 family members celebrating our matriarch's birthday with 4 generations of family aged 5 to 70. The view of the lake is spectacular, there was plenty of sleeping space (and beds were comfortable), room to sneak away if you needed a moment of solitude, and the yard is huge, mostly flat and "playable". We had whiffle ball, kan jam, cornhole and football going simultaneously, with plenty of yard to spare! And we had great weather, which is not an easy feat in western NY, even in the summer.

This lake is very quiet, at least at this end (close to Wayne) and the water temp was perfect. Do bring water shoes as naturally there are rocks and mud as you enter the lake. There is a lot of seaweed in this lake but you get used to it quickly. The sunset from the yard overlooking the lake is terrific, we all gathered our chairs on the lawn every day and watched as another beautiful day drew to a close. Warm days, cool nights, and the fire pit was used every night. And even rain showers can be enjoyed from the porch.

Plenty of places to sit, eat and or visit, both inside and out. We had 7 cars/trucks and no worries about space to park. The porch is key real estate (could use a good cleaning and scrubbing though to get rid of the cobwebs) and the most used of any space; house inside is very clean and has everything you need for a week's stay. We brought all of our food (2 fridges get a workout) and made all of our meals for the entire gang every day - plenty of cookware, space available to prepare and serve. The assortment of boats was a great advantage and they got lots of use (adding another kayak would be great so two can go out together). Every day the kids literally spent hours in the water, which is nicely shallow for the little ones to enjoy, and even more hours fishing off the dock. They caught loads of fish and were thrilled.

We all left with memories that will last a lifetime, which was exactly the point of this trip, and I highly recommend the Dragonfly Inn if you are looking for an affordable place were everyone can stay together and enjoy this beautiful lake! The owners were responsive, easy to work with and very helpful in providing details and bedroom plans in advance so I could get everyone organized before we arrived. Thank you for sharing your home!

Waneta Lake is a "secret gem" nestled among the Finger Lakes and has a very rural flavor. It's close proximety to wineries, museums, and Watkins Glen Motor Speedway makes it a favorite as soon as people visit.
