About Gary Case

My husband Gary and I live near Buffalo, NY and own a floor covering store in Lockport NY. Nancy grew up 12 miles north of Penn Yan and is familiar with life in the Finger Lakes. We started renting a cottage on Waneta Lake in 1992 and by 2000, we were ready to buy a place of our own, and you'll find us there most weekends during the summer down the lake from the Dragonfly Inn.

Gary Case purchased this house in 2006

Why Gary Case chose Dundee

We bought this property in 2006 because we saw the potential that this house offered people who wanted to vacation with a large group. Thus The Dragonfly Inn was born. Loving the area as we do, we have had large gatherings ourselves at the cottage, so we know it works!

We also fell in love with the covered ceder porch, large enough for adults to lounge while the kids play.

What makes this house unique

Our cottage, in addition to having access to all fishing and water sports, is close to dozens of wineries, The Windmill outdoor market (Saturdays only), Watkins Glen Motor Speedway, Corning Glassworks, Curtis Wright museum, and festivals happening throughout the summer at neighboring lakes and villages.

The Dragonfly Inn

  • 4 of 5

This home was a very comfortable house with plenty of room. We had anywhere from 10 - 15 people with the average of 13 and had plenty of room to hang out together or if we wanted some space, could easily do.

I like when houses I rent are like a 'home'. Not afraid to put feet on couch, etc.

Wish the kitchen had more light as at night it was hard to see while fixing meals and with 5 - 6 people in kitchen working different locations, more light would be great.

Also, someone should look at the dining room table as the legs are not steady. I loved the fact that there were 3 tables and we actually separated them into 3 separate tables so we could play games inside (the porch would have worked except for mosquitoes). The problem with separating them is that the legs are maybe not screwed in all the way, or people haven't been picking up the tables while moving and the legs actually go out 5-6 inches at an angle. We noticed that and made sure we pushed them to the right location, but since the granite tops are not a permanent cover on these legs, they could potentially break and the slab of granite may fall onto someone's foot. This is just a minor thing that people need to be aware of.

I was a bit disappointed with the lake and no one took the opportunity to kayak, canoe, etc. as there was so much milfoil and stuff floating on top of the water near the banks that no one dared or wanted to go into the water or chance getting into a kayak with the chance of falling into the water. Really, that was my only real complaint, and we found plenty to do without it.

I would rent this home again in a heartbeat!! Thank you.

Very Nice and Comfortable for large families!

  • 4 of 5

Our stay was very pleasant and we all (24 of us) enjoyed the lay-out of the home and the convenience of the lake. The grandkids all enjoyed fishing (from the dock), kayaking, tubing and swimming.

We were, however, disappointed with all the seaweed that seems to be overtaking the beautiful lake of Waneta. Hopefully, something can be done for that.

The home was large enough that anyone that needed some quiet time could find a location to just relax. The large back lawn provided a place for ball games, etc. The deck was probably our favorite place! Loved being able to read, eat, play games and just relax. Very nice!

There, of course, are some rough places that need some attention (curb appeal being one of them) but over all the home worked perfectly for our family and we were all glad to be able to spend time together. We sincerely appreciated the air conditioner in the upstairs! The new kayakes were an added blessing as the kids as well as the adults spend a lot of time enjoying the lake in one of them. Thank you, Gary, for purchasing these items. With the kayakes we rented ourselves, we had enough for those wanting to go our in the lake with no complaining that someone had to wait his turn!

This cottage met our desires and needs and we all loved being together in one place. We definitely would recommend this place to other families or groups!

Overall a fun week

  • 4 of 5

The house is nice with plenty of rooms and bathrooms. A wonderful porch that completely encircles the house. It is nice but no so nice that you walk on eggshells, hoping to get back you deposit. A couple of negatives tho' the kitchen is incredibly small for a house that sleeps 24. the dock has potential but needs some planks repaired and it would be nice if the owner pulled a few bricks, cinder block pieces and and rocks out of the water right near the shore/dock. The place was well stocked with kitchen equipment, 3 BBQ grills and out door cooler, 2 kayaks, 1 canoe, one row boat with a slow leak and a "john" boat along with plenty of oars (thought the wooden oars should be tossed or replaced) and life jackets. Our family had a great time and many cool hiking, scenic trails within 45 min of the home and really close to Watkins Glen.

Owner's Response: This is our first complaint, posted or otherwise. We have an older home, and exactly as you can see in the pictures. It is typical of a rural lake rental and not that of a chain hotel. Mattresses were all new in 2007. We have two people that spend 5 hrs each cleaning it meticulously for the next stay. There is a private bath room shared by two master sweets that has non locking pocket doors. The bed rooms all have locks. Ashish complained it was too hot with almost 30 people in the living room and one of three ceiling fans not working. We had 4 portable fans and 9 other ceiling fans working. Since his stay we have added air conditioning on the top two floors. The Ashish group did spill ink on one carpet and pushed a storm door so hard it ripped the metal bracket from the screws. I accepted his denial and returned his damage deposit in full. I then denied his request for a discount on his past 2 night stay. He is not welcome back. If someone is considering our home, please read the other views or contact the owner.
