About the property

Rustic Horse Farm Offering Spectacular Views and Unsurpassed Tranquility!

Darlingford Farm is nestled between the beautiful Caribbean Sea and the majestic Blue Mountains and is known for its spectacular views and tropical breezes. This 4 bed 2 bath home has captured the hearts of all those who have stayed here and promises to be a vacation like no other.

For a family vacation, a romantic get away, or even a solo adventure, this property offers you peace and tranquility for when you want to relax and unwind as well as lots of exciting destinations for when you want to explore the Parish and meet our people.

Arriving at Darlingford Farm for the first time will be a memorable experience. As you meander past our distinctive white fence, down our slightly long driveway, and past our grazing horses, you will see for the first time your 'home away from home'. Our farmhouse is wooden and very spacious with elegantly casual decor that captures the splendor of old Jamaican architecture. The beauty found in this home is unique and every room offers something different.

* The living room is large and very comfortable with soft tones and lots of light. Great for an evening drink before dinner and catching up about your day or enjoying a movie before bed.

* The dining room which seats eight has a more traditional 'greathouse' feel with antique furniture and ambiance. This is a charming space to enjoy a delicious dinner prepared by Hopeton.

* The front verandah is an airy space with shuttered windows that feels like it was built specifically to greet the morning and the beauty of the mountains. This is only made better by also having a freshly brewed cup of Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee in hand.

* The large back verandah with its unforgettable view, sound of the crashing waves, and constant breeze is perfect for a relaxed lunch and casual lounging during the day.

* And at dusk the terrace below the almond tree is where spectacular sunsets can be seen while enjoying a glass of wine and wondering if you have ever seen something quite this magical before!

The bedrooms at Darlingford Farm are all quite large with high ceilings and fans. Two of the bedrooms have king-sized beds, one bedroom has a queen-sized bed, and the final bedroom has two single-beds. The master bedroom has an en-suite bathroom while the other three bedrooms share a large hall bathroom with double sinks.

Darlingford Farm welcomes you!

About Bronwen Jones

I grew up at Darlingford Farm and I cannot put into words how wonderful a place I think this is. The memories that I hold dear to my heart, as a child and as an adult, all revolve around this beautiful home and as yet un-spoilt Parish.

Over the years I have watched and been somewhat amused by the number of people, both tourists and locals alike, who have driven into our home to ask if they can stop and take just one photograph. Inevitably, after they have taken dozens of photographs, they ask if they can walk around for just a little bit. Hours later they can be found sitting relaxed on the back verandah, drinking fresh coconut water and wishing they did not have to pull them selves away and continue to where they were going...

It is this memory that has inspired me to open up my childhood home to guests who may want to visit Portland and create their own memories. I truly believe that Portland is a place of healing for the soul and Darlingford Farm is a place of beauty for the heart.

Why Bronwen Jones chose Portland Parish

Because there is no other place like it!

What makes this farmhouse unique

The parish of Portland is known for its untouched beauty and natural attractions. Darlingford Farm will provide you with a great base to explore the area and experience true Jamaican culture. My families top ten list would have to include:

1. Frenchman's Cove Beach

2. Reach Falls

3. Boston Bay - surfing the waves!

4. Long Bay

5. Bath Fountain and Hot Springs

6. Rafting on the Rio Grande

7. San San Beach and Blue Lagoon and Monkey Island

8. Morant Point Lighthouse

9. Errol Flynn Marina and Navy Island

10. Boston Jerk center - They have a yearly jerk festival!

And there are so many more things to do too...

Guestbook comments from the owner

Darlingford Farm is a place so special, it's hard to put into words. I booked it for a birthday getaway, with friends and kids. We arrived after dark and were welcomed by the glowing warmth of the house and the delicious aroma of our dinner being prepared by Hopie, Darlingford's chef and caretaker. We chose our rooms, which were all comfortable and classically furnished, with hardwood floors and beautiful antique furniture, soft sheets, and plenty of pillows. Dinner was indeed delicious and far past our expectations -- grilled lobster tails and a Grouper so large it dwarfed its oversized platter! After a lively dinner and much talk and laughter far into the night, we all went to bed excited about the prospect of seeing Darlingford's full beauty the next morning. We were not disappointed: the house is set on a bluff over the sea, so the view from the veranda is incredible! Turquoise waves and stately cliffs, a beach with a small river running into the sea! And then walking around the property, there are fields full of fresh green grass being nibbled on by the farm's beautiful horses, cows in the distance, green hills, more beaches, and on and on -- every direction a treat for the eyes. Our time at Darlingford was spent in the best ways possible: being doted on by Hopie, being loved by the farm's friendly dogs, exploring the property and surrounding areas, playing games, talking, laughing, daydreaming, and truly relaxing....we completely loved it and we can't wait to return.

The property and views are beautiful!

  • 3 of 5

As frequent homeaway users we appreciate detailed reviews so I will try to be as honest and detailed as possible.

I wish I could give 5 stars alone to Hopeton the cook. He was truly a blessing. He got all the groceries on my list and cooked our specific meals as requested. He is a fabulous cook! He is what made this home experience so memorable.

On another note, the house itself is old but I don't think old has to mean dirty. The bathrooms were nicely remodeled but the bedrooms were not clean. The beautiful antique furniture was very dusty and the ceiling fans were filthy! The veranda is definitely the highlight of this home. The views are breathtaking. I felt the house was dirty for my taste so we spent most of our time, while home, on the veranda.

If you're looking for a totally private experience be aware that construction workers and helpers are very present around the grounds and in the kitchen. One such individual would come out on the veranda while we were enjoying conversation and the scenery and just linger looking at the view. It was a little awkward.

We are dog lovers but just be aware there are several dogs on the property.

Even with prior driver arrangements having been confirmed for our stay we still encountered transportation issues upon arrival. Our driver showed up at the airport in a dilapidated, unsafe vehicle. The tires were bald, seats were torn and no air conditioning. We had to make other arrangements on the spot to get to the house. Apparently their vehicle was being serviced. Every day was a little stressful not knowing which car or driver we were going to have. Though it worked out ok, it wasn't the smooth experience we expected given our prearrangement.

Again we cannot say enough about Hopeton the cook who treated us so nicely and who's cooking could rival any chef!!

Owner's Response: I am sorry that you feel this way about my home. Because your comments were so out of character, I immediately got on a plane and traveled to Jamaica to speak to the staff in person about your review. Although I nor the staff necessarily agree with all of your sentiments, we have taken all of your criticisms to heart, and will address them proactively and consistently in the future. I would like to thank you for taking the time to be so detailed but am deeply saddened that you had issues with your stay with us. I hope that one day perhaps you will give us another chance.

Get Away - Connect w/ Nature - See Jamaica

  • 5 of 5

There is just so much to say about my 35th Birthday Retreat at Darlingford Farm. First off, the staff is truly a magical compliment to this quaint and lusciously green farm house. Our Driver, who soon became our friend, was wonderful with helping us coordinate visits to the various attractions and activities our group wanted to explore. All of his recommendations were wonderful for our group. The Chef, who is filled with pure vibes is simply a master with preparing tasty foods straight from the earth, he deliciously prepared for our plates. Lastly, our housekeeper was such a delight and really made our stay even more pleasant and comfortable.

In terms of the property - it is nestled overlooking a beautiful bay front just beyond my bedroom window. The dining area and porch is spacious, yet intimate for playing cards & dominoes, yoga, working out, or simply lounging. Each time I would retreat to my room, the sounds of the ocean and birds would effortlessly sing me to sleep. That would be marked as some of the best sleep I have had in probably my life or as far back as I can remember. It was a refreshing and renewing experience because I returned back home and to work still feeling the tranquility of Darlingford Farm.

Oh - the horses and caretaker were also a wonderful bonus, as I love horses. Guests are welcome to have a ride if they wish, or they can simply interact with the horses in passing. The best for last - Tigres who accompanied the first one(s) up to early morning walks and runs. She would escort us through the roads and byways of Manchioneal, Portland.

Overall, I could not have picked a more ideal place to share my 35th birthday with my friends I have known since childhood. It was a perfect sum of tranquility, beauty and open spaces, combines with shopping, waterfalls, jerk & local cuisines, night life (dancing), and more.

One thing I will note is that you will have to drive to the attractions and shopping areas. This property is perfect for those who really desire to get away and unplug (even thought WiFi is available - no one has to know), while having an intimate setting.

Let's just say whenever life starts to get at me, I know the ideal place to retreat; Darlingford Farm and would recommend it for couples, families, girls or guys week or weekend get-a-ways.

This is a Special Place

  • 5 of 5

Our family recently spent 4 nights at Darlingford Farm and were terribly sad to leave when the time came. The property is stunningly beautiful. The home is casual and the setting relaxing, with nice comfortable seating throughout, especially on the veranda.

The staff (Hopeton, Sandra, Pauline and Winston) was just as described by other reviewers...friendly, welcoming, and happy to serve! We absolutely loved Hopeton and were wowed constantly by his culinary skills. He went out of his way to make sure we were enjoying ourselves. In fact, even surprised us multiple times with appetizers and snacks (like plantain chips fried in coconut oil) that we did not ask him to handle. Each time was a welcome and pleasant treat.

Also, Bronwen, the owner, was very helpful, honest and responsive while we planned our trip.

I can't say enough good things about this place. It was our very first VRBO, and Darlingford Farm has set the standard.

Pure paradise!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of four adults absolutely loved Darlingford Farm. Of all the places we stayed on our road trip it was by far the most special. The house, the view and Hopeton who cooked the most wonderful meals were all amazing . We miss Hopie! Also Sandra who kept the house looking lovely . If you're looking for a traditional Jamaican experience-off the grid, back in time-this is the place to go. For swimming, we recommend Winifred Beach & don't miss Reach Falls. Thankyou for a truly memorable stay!
