The oceanfront facing living/dining room is mostly glass with wonderful panoramic views and sounds of the breaking waves. The home’s multi-level design provides different vantage points of the ocean with an elevator and stairs to access each level. For families with small children, safety gates for the stairs can be rented from a local company. Please contact Owner for further information. Dear Cliff:

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in your home. As you know from our conversations and meeting us, my wife is a quadriplegic as a result of an accident almost 4 years ago. Since that time, we have spent a large amount of time travelling on vacation and business throughout the country and internationally.

Prior to staying at your home in April this year, we always stayed in hotels that were able to provide for our special needs. However, this year we decided to bring together some of my wife's family that resides in California and wanted to stay in a private home if we could find one that could accommodate us.

I searched all over for the "right" house and then came across your home. At first it seemed too good to be true. You may remember we had many discussions regarding your home as I wanted it to be perfect for our trip. Well, Cliff, it was.

As you may remember we had some concerns about whether we could stay in the master bedroom or not, because of a two inch lip leading into the shower. Well, there was no problem.

We also thought there might be a problem in getting onto the three oceanfront decks. You built a portable wooden ramp that allowed my wife and her 350-pound wheelchair to go on the decks whenever she wanted.

Cliff, I have given considerable thought as to whether there is anything that could be done to your home to make it better for accessibility. The short answer is - no.

Your home is wonderfully built to accommodate virtually everyone in an excellent manner. It worked for us and I am certain it can work for anyone.

We look forward to renting your home again next year - this time for a longer period.

wonderful vacation house directly on a fabulous beach

this house has a wonderful location right on the beach. It was well stocked with supplies, including beach chairs and beach toys. the balconies were amazing and we could bbq right on the main deck. the house could use some umbrellas and more comfortable chairs for the balconies. we were a multi generational family and there was more than ample room for all of us. we had a wonderful time.

Week went by too fast...So sad to leave!

This was the best staycation ever for me and my family. The house is amazing...the view is breathtaking, the beach is steps away and falling asleep to crashing waves, it just doesn’t get much better than this. The owner Cliff iwas present when we arrived to show us his beautiful home and how everything works and is just a phone call away if needed. The only thing he required of us was to “enjoy his home.” It was a pleasure to be able to enjoy this home. The only downside was when we had to leave😕. Thanks Cliff!

Wonderful

We had a wonderful time in this beautiful home right on the beach. Clifford was very responsive and helpful with tips on great places to eat and very concerned that we have a good stay. It was very nice to have a home stocked with a lot of extras such as spices, napkins, paper towels, etc. Plenty of towels and room for everyone. There were plenty of beach toys, boogie boards, beach chairs and a beach umbrella for guest use. The whole family (1 pre-teen, 2 older teens, 1 adult child) didn't want to leave and want to stay here again if we return. La Jolla is definitely to place to stay in San Diego and the home is close enough that we walked to all restaurants and shopping and seal rock.

Great Ocean Front Luxury House with Good Owner

My family stayed here in February of 2018. The owner, Cliff, was very helpful from the time we first contacted him until we completed our stay. The information provided on the house and area was very detailed and helpful and Cliff met us at the house when we checked in to answer any questions we had. Since we needed stairway gates for a toddler Clif helped coordinate with San Diego Travel Baby prior to our arrival to make sure the gates they furnished worked.

The home has several levels with bedrooms on Three levels and the kitchen and main gathering area on another. The home has an elevator that we mainly used to move luggage when we arrived and departed. The master bedroom is on a floor with two other bedrooms and there is a great secluded bedroom similar to a studio apartment on the top floor. The lower floor has a large entertainment room and a suite-like bedroom area. Every bedroom has its own full bath. The multi level construction worked well for us and, although we didn't need it often, the elevator is a good feature if anyone has issues with stairs.

The house is on a sandy stretch of beach which is good for swimming (not for us because we are used to the 80 degree water on the Southeast coast and it was February). There were people swimming and surfing near the house most days. Each end of the sandy beach has walkable rocky areas. The views are beautiful and the deck off the kitchen area is nice (although we couldn't enjoy it to the fullest due to the cool weather).

The location is near the main areas of La Jolla and to restaurants and stores. It is a short walk to the area where the seals gather (either by the beach if you walk over rock areas on the way or on the road). You are also close to Prospect Street and other shopping areas. We enjoyed having tapas and wine at "The Olive Experience" on Prospect Street.

We enjoyed the house and meeting the owners. Hopefully we'll make it back again.

As beautiful a setting in La Jolla as I can imagine. Smack dab on a gorgeous beach.

Rare to be in a newer home right on the beach. The owner is exceptionally responsive and considerate. You couldn't ask for a more beautiful setting. The elevator makes the multi-level home very manageable even if you don't like stairs. The property overall is well-maintained, which I'm sure is not always easy with the corrosive elements of being so close to the water. It is walking distance to downtown La Jolla and in the middle of a beautiful neighborhood, which we enjoyed. A short drive to Mission Beach which is fabulous for longer walks. The ensuite bathrooms for every bedroom would be a plus for large groups, and they are clean and new.

We stayed for a month last year and came back for a month this year, using the time primarily as a writers' retreat. We came for the ocean, and the large windows make for beautiful views of sunsets and surf. The patios are expansive. There is no yard, which could be a plus or a minus depending on your needs, but with the ocean literally steps away it didn't bother us.

Downsides: Because we spend a lot of time in the house, the furnishings and their arrangement were not always ideal for us, but the owner was willing to work with us, which we appreciated. As with most rental properties, furnishings are dated. The kitchen and three of the bedrooms have stunning and expansive views, but there are not really conversation sitting areas in any of them. We made it work for two of us by moving a few things, and the second year Cliff bought a couple of additional chairs for the bedrooms and was willing to move some of the furniture in the kitchen to make a sitting area. The primary living area where there are couches and conversation areas has no windows or fireplace and the furniture was not very comfortable for us. All of the beds are queens, but they were reasonably comfortable beds.

All said, we have rented two other homes on La Jolla beaches and we will probably be back to this one. Great location, responsive owner, and fabulous views on a gorgeous beach.

Great house, great location

Our family of 9 enjoyed a wonderful week at the house during Christmas. The house was fully equipped, the beach terrific (a 2-minute walk). We grilled and ate meals outside on the deck (in December!), listened to the sounds of the waves, loved the sunset views, and were able to walk into town.

We had three generations together, and this was my first experience with an online rental. There were a few minor issues with the house, but the owner, Cliff, responded quickly to address them.

The reason for 4 stars: there are a lot of steps in the house, so it was challenging to keep our young walkers (15 months and 20 months) safe and away from open stairways. But, overall, we were very happy with the house and didn't want to leave.

The neighborhood is almost all multi-million dollar single family homes. It's a five minute walk to the neighborhood Ferrari and Lamborghini dealerships. Yet there are restaurants, shops, and art galleries everywhere to fit most budgets and tastes. The people are friendly, there's lots to do, and beautiful places to do it.
