My stay at the house was overall a good one and the people at Turnkey bib an excellent job there war two problems watch this house. The first was the shower which had no water pressure at all. The water gust ran out in a dribble. The second one wasn't a problem for me as I was the only one staying there but it would be a problem for mixed company. The problem was that there was no door and no way to shot the dathroom. Wan you sit in the living room you look directly into the bathroom and you have a direct view of the toilet. This should be fixed with a folding door.
Nice location within walking distance of balboa park and shops/restaurants. The downside was that the house was not cleaned well before we got there. There was cob webs on the lamps and the bathroom had trash along with lipstick on one of the towels. I understand that it is an older home and it is very charming. It would be nice if the bathroom was renovated as the tile was falling apart and the water pressure was low. Overall, I would not return unless the bathroom were fixed and the house thoroughly cleaned. If those two things were done, I think this property would get a lot more business.
Turnkey (property management company) was extremely professional and constantly communicated via email to make the rental and access to it easy, I was very impressed with this company and would rent from them again in the future, I was very happy with their service. One thing that is not shown on the listing is that there is only street parking... scarce really, looks like a lot of residents park on the street too, so it was a challenge to do so. The picture shows a driveway/courtyard in front, but that is reserved for the adjacent homeowners and not guests... keep this mind if on-site parking is a consideration.
The unit was old/rustic/worn-out... a bit on the musty side due to its age, but clean. Water pressure in the shower was dismal even with both cold/hot faucets turned on, while the shower door would not lock in place. This home could use little bit of tender loving care to fix a few things to make it a tip top rental.
They did have nice amenities like Wi-Fi, TV, cable, Xbox & a Samsung tablet. I was in town attending a week-long conference at the San Diego Convention Center, and it is a bit of a chunk through town to get there daily, but it was affordable for a last-minute booking.
If you like an older home with that worn-out feeling, this is definitely the rustic rental for you, but if you like newer digs, this may not be your best bet, but you cannot beat the price... for sure.
First, the listing does not point out that there is only street parking, and the street is commercial (with a 7-11 almost directly across the street). We were frequently forced to park blocks away. We were awakened by car alarms and by what I suppose must have been deliveries to commercial establishments since there were some "whump" noises followed by a rolling sound.
The listing also says there is a sliding glass door to the back which is not true. The back area looks great in the pictures but was very unappealing in fact. Here are some other facts. The second bedroom is accessed by going through the first bedroom; this may be a problem for some people. The beds were not comfortable. The air conditioning is from 2 small through-the -wall units in the living room and the second bedroom. I did not feel there was adequate privacy since there was no covering on the kitchen door, and the kitchen window had a see-through curtain. There is a small partition wall between the dining area and the toilet - we always closed the door into the bathroom when we ate so we didn't notice that we were eating next to the toilet. The shower had what looked like heavy black mold in the corners. There is 1 towel bar and 1 falling-apart loop-style hand-towel holder in the bathroom. The wall between the toilet and the bathtub is incredibly deteriorated, especially at the bottom. The place was not very clean, but the main problem is that this house appears to have had no maintenance done on it for years and years. When I complained to the management company that there were no sponges or dish towels, they brought some over right away, which was appreciated.
Our family enjoyed staying here for a week. It was in a great location in the heart of South Park, San Diego. Perfect for families and pets!
Overall property was good. House sits on lot with another house and has common space front and back yard which was fine only frustration was the occupants that reside in the house right next door were very loud in the mornings which lead to being woken up by them talking or yelling in the morning. House was cute little old house located on a very cute street with shops and bars and only 10-15 mins from the harbor and 5 mins from balboa park. Other than noisy neighbors it was perfect for a quick weekend trip.
