This was my second stay at Kona Cabin, and like last time, it was a wonderful one. It's so quite and peaceful, you feel like you're in a hidden cabin tucked away in a remote forest, yet you're only a 7-minute drive away from Fort Bragg (and the fabulous Harvest Market). You're also about 50 yards from the front door, along a woooded path, to the boundary line of the Jackson Demonstration State Forest, a huge area of protected old-growth forest and a great place for hiking, wildlife, and solitude.
Then there are the conveniences that make the cabin so comfy: a very effecient (and eco-friendly) pellet stove for heating up the chilly mornings and late evenings, excellent wi-fi coverage, a large screen TV with cable (I brought my own Roku stick to stream my favorite Netflix, Prime, or Apple TV shows), a well-stocked kitchen with all the cooking utensiles you could ask for, two kinds of coffee makers--a Koreg and, for the hardcore coffee fanatics (me), a high-end drip coffee maker and bean grinder for that perfect moring cup of Joe. The bed is very comfortable--I'd forgotten what it was like to fall asleep at night and wake up 8 hours later the next morning refreshed, without a single night-time disturbance. It's really quiet!
But what impressed me most of all, was the generosity and responsiveness of Kona Cabin's gracious owners, which made the stay that much better. My gratitude goes out to them, along with my hopes of returning next year.
