About Heather Douglas

We have lived in this little coastal town for 13 years now and are excited at the opportunity to share it with others. I am a nurse at our small community hospital and my husband is a wildlife biologist. We have 2 kids and a dog (Kona) who we named our cabin after. Our family enjoys exploring the coast, hiking, biking, as well as attending many of our unique community events. The world's largest salmon barbecue in July and the Ugly dog contest during Labor Day weekend are some of our favorites.

Heather Douglas purchased this cabin in 2014

Why Heather Douglas chose Fort Bragg

We fell in love with this property because of the close proximity to town, but "in the middle of nowhere" feel it has. It is set at the end of the road and feels like you are in a forest. It has the feel of a campground but offers the comforts of home just inside the door. Our kids have loved exploring the property and beyond in Jackson Demonstration State Park since we purchased it. In the fall we collected baskets of wild mushrooms and in the spring discovered wildflowers popping up everywhere.

We live in Oakland, CA and usually fly out of SFO

Charming place, thoughtful landlords.

  • 5 of 5

One of the nicest places I've ever stayed in (I'm 77 and do a lot of traveling). Great kitchen, great lighting, spacious, great bed, lots of closet and drawer space, a smart TV (we watched Netflix). The landlord left fruit for us.

The landlord was quite accessible and very responsive when we had questions.

A bit out of the way, but very well worth finding

Springville,, Utah

Large piece of property with redwood trees, fire put and two different porch areas to sit outside.

  • 5 of 5

Enjoyed our stay. Close to many things to see, or just a quiet place to relax. Loved the property and all the things Robert and Heather put in the cabin to make it comfortable. The little things like a bottle of wine, some Bailey's Irish cream, along with fresh fruit in a basket. There are blankets to toss on when the temperature drops, games, puzzles and toys for the very young. A wonderful cabin in the woods!!

We enjoyed this stay immensely! We stayed here as a hub to explore Northern California. We loved waking up to coffee on the porch by the redwoods and taking mini hikes around the property with our infant.

Two part review...5 stars solely for part one. Part two would get 10 stars!

  • 5 of 5

We loved this sweet charming cabin in the woods! You really felt like you were miles from civilization, but in fact the town is just down the road. The cabin is super clean with more of "everything" than you would expect...

let's start with the super clean, super stocked kitchen. A lovely bottle of wine to sip on while you slowly unpack for your stay. The kitchen had more spices, utincels etc. than any VRBO we've stayed with. The fireplace heated the cabin to a toasty warm almost instantly ( or was that the wine kicking in?). The sheets, super soft! Mattress, so comfy! The duvet, luxurious! . We loved making s'mores on the firepit in the evenings and staring up at the super bright stars. All this equates to a 5 star review.

Sadly our stay happen to coenside with the horrific Northern California wild fires that devistasted so much area and affected so many family's. We were heading home ( east bay) the day the fires started and with road closures up and down HWY 101 we were having trouble getting anywhere... it was Heather that reached out to us. She called because she was worried " about us" she was concerned that we may not be able to make it home. She offered us the cabin for the next couple of days at an incredibley generous discount...It meant so much that they were truly worried about our well being.. the cabin gets 5 stars. The hosts get 10! We will be back very soon!

Kona Cabin is the place to be!

  • 5 of 5

This little cabin is the PERFECT get away! It was so quiet and peaceful there, yet we were just a hop skip and a jump away from town or Mendocino! We are hopeful this cabin will be available for many many years to come since we plan on coming back regularly! It was very comfortable and very neat and clean! Thank you!
