Guestbook comments from the owner

We enjoyed our stay at Heron Lodge very much. We loved the peaceful woodland setting and watching the birds feed on the bird table each morning.

We took our pet dog and he loved his walks and being able to sit out in the rear garden and sun himself.

The lodge was well equipped , clean and well presented. A great base to take in the surrounding area of Dumfries and Galloway.

We will definitely return and have already told our friends about this little gem ! For the price we paid we got more than we ever expected , never stayed anywhere so well equipped as Heron Lodge and owner very helpful on our booking.

Homely, comfortable, clean and well equipped

  • 5 of 5

We booked this holiday break over the internet with no previous experience of the site. We picked it because it was one of the few which accommodated short stays rather than a full week.

The description was accurate regarding all aspects. The site was well maintained and not too big with around 20 lodges. Being close to the A711 meant easy access to the Solway Coast and Dumfries for shopping. The lodge was well maintained, fully equipped, pleasantly decorated and easily kept warm, with sufficient space for two adults with two dogs. The clear instructions received prior to our stay, and regular email contact with the owner meant we had no need to contact her whilst on holiday. The easy and safe access to Mabie Forest direct from the site was ideal for dog walking before setting off for the day.

We have already recommended Heron Lodge to our family.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review and comments on your experience of choosing and booking Heron Lodge in conjunction with homeaway website. Heron Lodge prides itself on providing home from home comforts and a peaceful stay to all guests and welcome with prior consent their well behaved pet dog. They will truly enjoy the many varied walks in the area from forest trails at Mabie Forest and Dalbeattie Town Wood to coastal routes along Rockcliffe, Kipford and Sandyhills. Heron Lodge will always strive to be flexible to accommodate a short break or weeks holiday to suit clients dates without the ridgidy of a set changeover day. Again Thank You for your review and look forward to assisting with a future booking @ Heron Lodge. KR Louise Heron Lodge Owner

Great lodge in wonderful location.

  • 4 of 5

Had a fabulous time at Heron Lodge. The location was a perfect base for exploring the surrounding countryside. Close to beaches and forest, and the drive round the Solway Coast is stunning. Amazing views from the lodge, it had everything you need for a peaceful relaxing stay. Breakfast on the patio and lazy evenings sitting in the garden, or going for a stroll to Mabie Forest.

A brilliantly appointed cabin with all mod cons necessary, clean, cosy and in beautifully attractive surroundings with great views across open farmland. All local amenities and places of interest well advertised and quick/simple to find.Possibly the best cabin on the site. W.C. diaphragm probably needs repair. Otherwise no complaints and would welcome a return visit/give recommendations.
